Do you really wanna pass on Bosa?

I would not reach for any RDE this draft, we got options in later RDs.

I wouldn't either. I only see one high-end WDE talent in Spence. But 1) he also has character concerns like Gregory, and 2) I wouldn't want to rely on any rookie DE as a starter. The biggest talent I see in this draft is DT. I want us to solidify our starting D-line and draft the best possible D-linemen and pass rushers (edge and interior). They don't have to be immediate starters. Rookie pass rushers usually struggle anyway. But we can get a future star. I see many D-linemen with higher ceilings than Bosa. It would be a mistake to go into the draft without addressing WDE in free agency.

i know there are many who want QB at 4 over anything else....
This thread is not for you. This is for the folks who are ok w taking a QB later and focusing on defense first.

Going RB at 4 makes no sense right now. It's also pretty high for an injured linebacker. There aren't any WRs in this draft worthy of being picked at 4. And we have one of the best Olines in the league so we don't need to invest in OL that early.
I like Ramsey a ton but I believe the Chargers will grab him at 3.

Every draft pundit out there agrees that Bosa creates a lot of disruption. He's technically sound and immediately brings plenty of skill to any DLine.

He's the #1 rated DL this year and I think a lot of us are turned off because he's not exactly what we want him to be. He's not a quick twitch sack machine that will develop into the next Bruce smith or Reggie white, but he provides exactly what this team needs and what Marinelli looks for.

He can be lined up all over the line, and is excellent against the run. He can help create opportunities for our other linemen. The addition of Thornton upgrades the 1tech spot and will allow a now healthy TCraw to be even better than he was when we decided to extend him. Bosa provides even more help for TCraw and vice versa.

Bosa isn't Greg Hardy but Hardy wasn't exactly Hardy last year either. Bosa is however a lot easier to deal with from a coachs perspective.

Bosa helps solidify the DLine overall and if Gregory decides the weed is just too much to pass up even after his 4 game suspension, we have a 1st rd talent right there to help soften the blow of losing what we believed would turn into a premier pass rusher.

I'm starting to come ALL The way back around to Bosa as our pick at 4.

Love his nastiness which this D sorely lack.

Knocked out 2 QBs! How many did our D knock out opposing QB over last 10 years? I can't remember a single one.

Sexy bend around the corner is over rated. Just give me a guy who knows how to get to the QB by whatever means possible.

I think Dallas would pass on Bosa if Wentz is there and I am cool with that. I would personally pass on Bosa if they get a Commanders like deal from a team to move up.

But if they are staying at four then Bosa will make the defense better from the first day he steps on the field and he will only get better.

Rather have Buckner or Ogbah, ceiling is much higher.

I disagree. Bosa is only 20 years old. He was 19 when he racked up 13.5 sacks as a Sophmore. People weren't excited about his combine - but they absolutely should have been. While his top end speed wasn't overly impressive (how often do DEs run 40 yards in a straight line) his quickness measured out as elite.

When comparing Bosa to Ogbah and Buckner, understand that Buckner and Ogbah were 2-3 years older.

I'm in the QB camp, so this thread isn't for me I guess, but at this point I don't think we'll go QB. Not sure who I'd pick between Jack, Bosa and Buckner...fwiw, I would pass on Ramsey. It's silly to say #4 is too high to pick a LB, I'd gladly trade the #4 pick for Kuechly or Wagner. I do think he'll be very good and ultimately means we can move on from McClain. Bosa will not be a 12+ sack guy year in and year out, but I can see him being an 8-10 guy, which given this drafts lack of elite talent, isn't too bad. Buckner also won't be a 12+ sack guy, and will be more of a 5-7 guy, but I think he potentially could be more disruptive considering his ability to play inside on passing downs.

If I'm going DE at 4, it better be a All-Pro JJ Watt game changing type of impact player.

The only guy in this draft who projects to be an All-Pro - at any position - is Myles Jack. Unfortuantely, he's a LB and has injury concerns.

If we decide that a traditional (off ball) LB isn't worth a top 4 pick - DE is no more a reach than any of the other positions, IMO.

Watt's has similar weakness as Bosa coming out..... can't bend, slow 1st step....

If we know Watts would be All Pro Watt's he's would have been picked much higher.

We don't know what Bosa will be in the Pros. Worse case Ellis 2.0....Best case Jared Allen?

And why is he any more similar to Watt than Buckner is?

I think you are really exaggerating Bosa's floor or you are really under valuing Ellis.

Bosa is Greg Ellis v. 2.0. Solid against the run and gets you a few sacks every year.

He had 13.5 sacks as a 19 year old true Sophmore. That's more than Watt got in his two seasons at Wisconsin.

He also played Te in his first year. He was learning the position. Not a good comparison

"Watt attended Pewaukee High School, where he was a four-year letterwinner in football and also lettered in basketball, baseball and track and field.[8] During his senior year, he was selected for first-team All-State. During this time, he became a breakout football player, earning the Woodland Conference Player of the Year Award his senior year, and first-team All-State, All-County, All-Area, and All-Conference selections as tight end and defensive end."
