We are already 11 million over next years cap with players like Lamb and Parsons getting expensive new contracts or tagged. We already have no choice but to lose guys like Tyrone Smith and Biadasz because we can't afford them. Gallup is gone, Kearse is gone. We have needs at RB, C, LT, LB, DE, DT and FS. Those are expensive holes to fill and we will inevitably have to go with our guys or a bargain FA. So do you think the team is better or worse than this current squad if Dak gets paid?

I get it some of those guys aren't a big loss but you still have to replace them and you can't be active in FA when you've paid your QB like he's top 5 when he's clearly not and you have no money to spend. Some projections have Dak setting the market and being the highest paid player in the NFL, that is insane to me for what he is, INSANE!

Does anyone here legit think Dak has the makeup of a championship QB regardless of who's coaching? Even if signing him means we have to bargain shop for role players? CAN Dak Prescott carry a less than stellar team to a super bowl win and if the answer is no then you have to move on and find the guy that can.

This is a precarious off season for Dallas, this where a true GM earns their pay and we don't even have a real GM.
Salary cap is easily manipulated. A few restructures and a couple cuts and we have over 30m in cap space without even touching Dak's deal and if Lamb gets a new deal it likely lowers his 2024 cap hit significantly....probably at least another 10m.

Restructuring Tank and Zack get us under. Restructuring Diggs, Steele, and D. Wilson add 15.7m. Cut Rush and Cooks saves 6.25m. June 1st cut of Gallup saves 9.5m. That is 31.5m in a matter of a few pen strokes. A long term deal for CD if we choose to will likely save money short term on cap as well as he has a 17m cap hit on his last year.

MIght as well resign Lance to cheap deal as backup and see what he has. We know Rush is decent short term but not starter quality. Tyron should be brought back IMO, maybe as swing T on a reasonable deal.

The only other guys I would possibly resign are Armstrong, Dowdle, Lewis and maybe Hankins.

Very well put, and I completely agree.
They are also in a big hurry to double down on their decisions, especially if they received any criticism for it. Drafting a running back high (Zeke), they couldn’t wait to give him a big deal. They overpaid him AND they did it two years before they had to. Drafted a one-legged linebacker in the early 2nd? Let's sign him to a big deal; also 2 years before they had to. Randy Gregory? They tried like heck to sign him but luckily Stephen was too inept to get it done.

They also greatly overpay so much that they must move on from players even if they still have some value left. Greg Ellis, Roy Williams, Demarcus Ware, Terrence Newman, Zeke, and others, all went on to start for other teams. They all had value, just nowhere near the ridiculous cap number Stephen negotiated.

Going rate so "yes" if you want to win. There is no plan "B" thus far. Give us a plan "B" then maybe my answer would be different. You guys that hate Dak for whatever reason never show how you would replace Dak. Just always get rid of him

I dont think the point is to replace Dak and get a top 5 qb replacement now. It's more to avoid constantly extending a lot of contracts to fit Dak's contract in only to get knocked out of the first round each year.

Draft a 1st round qb or accept status quo

Man... you worried about Dak when we will be stuck with Al Davis Jr. for another 10 years or more. "REALLY"????

Lance is already signed for 2024. He’s due to make $5 million.

Obviously he wont be paid that, he will be extended or released.

But my argument is that an extension still handcuffs this team financially for years and that makes zero sense considering who he is.

The Dak haters come out 6 times a year it seems. Let’s tell the truth for once guys, Dak is second team All-Pro and is not middle of the pack or below average. He played like a top 3 quarterback this season.
You got balls for coming out in defense of that turd I'll give you that. Dak ran up some great numbers against garbage teams, since we are being honest and all lets paint the whole picture. Against good competition in high pressure situations, we can see who he really is, he has shown us that year after year. You really want to hitch your entire franchise to that?

So Dak is the reason the Cowboys lost? He was not the sole reason we were 12-5. I will admit there is no way I give Dak an extension. Let him play out his contract and hope a team like Pittsburgh or Atlanta want him enough that they offer trade capital and a long term contract so Dak will left the no trade clause.

He is likely to be paid that, as he has all of the leverage thanks to Stephen's buffoonery.

Before yesterday's disaster, the team was talking extension, mainly to bring that # way down.

Now, I think they must play it out.

If they were smart and decided Dak will not be the QB 2025 and on, they would be wise to make him a June 1st cut and move on sooner than later. I'm just not sure that Jerry is capable of that.

Key phrase " We don't have a real GM"
We are therefore screwed.
Most important position in the organization and we have an amateur.

No of course he isn’t the sole reason they lost, the defense was equally as putrid but Dak once again played a bad game when it was all on the line. It’s something mental.

Is there a way we can convince the NFL to let us play the same bottom feeder teams Dak feasted on this season all through the playoffs, so Dak can look like a top 3 QB during the postseason too?
