Linehan did a great job for most of the year in terms of the plays he designed and how he called them.
Marinelli is more of a technique coach than he is a tactician, but I like that, too. I'm firmly in the camp that the issue in Dallas has been the quality of the defensive talent overall for years, now. Marinelli has done a fine job getting very average players to play average football between the 20s and to tighten up and play great in the red zone. We simply lack impact players on that side of the ball. Everybody we have not named 'Lee' is fairly unremarkable.
I also think the mix of experienced coordinators with Jason is a pretty good way to structure things. Our staff is very stable, enjoys being here, is doing a good job developing the talent we have, they all seem to get along, and the players want to be here. We're a contender already, and the glaringly obvious opportunity to upgrade is with the defensive talent on one side of the ball. Specifically, the talent in the front 7.
We need to stay the course and benefit from the stability we've invested in here over the last several years. If we're bringing in new coaching talent, it ought to be in the form of the position group coaches like we've done at OL and with the DBs and will do with the TE coach replacement this offseason. Let those guys develop and then be in position to promote from within if the coordinators get poached or retire or lose their marbles.
