Do you trust Orton?

I believe he is one of the highest paid backup QBs in the league, but I might be mistaken. There are tons of reports that he has been terrible throughout the offseason so far.

The last time I remember reports like this was when Brad Johnson's arm turned into a water pistol in the offseason prior to the 2008 season and sure enough, Romo went down and the rest is history.

What's the deal with Orton and do you trust him as the backup to Romo going into the season?

For a couple of games, yes. If Romo goes down early in the season for good, then that confidence takes a big hit.

He's better then McGee so he's alright in my book. I think he could lead us victory a few times if something were to happen to Romo.

I haven't seen him play in a while but based off past performance I do.

I have confidence in him to do exactly what a veteran backup QB is supposed to do...get the team through games in one piece and maybe even win a couple.

He's a younger Kitna. If we gameplan around his strengths we can be ok.

Could you show us the reports that have said he's been "terrible"? From what i've heard he's missed a few throws at times, but its the first few days of OTA's. Its not 2 weeks into training camp or the 3rd preseason game.. let's pump the brakes. I've also heard he's made some really good throws as well.. i trust him more than i would almost any other backup in the league, put it that way. There were times last season where i would have rather seen him in the game, than Romo.

Orton is a backup for a reason but he does have a good live arm. This is no Brad Johnson. I dont think the gameplan would have to be altered too much with him at the helm...

not really, rather have a young back up to groom n etc. orton seems to be terrible so far in ota's. alot of accuracy problems.

Probably this

Orton is one of the best backups in the league but our ceiling would go way down.

He's one of the better backup QBs in the league, so, I trust him in that capacity.

Unless our OL is drastically improved, a non mobile Orton will have little chance of success behind it, much less a chance for victory.

I'm in no hurry to replace him. He seems adequate. The next QB we bring in should be our next Franchise QB. Romo and Orton can get us through until we decide who that is.

Truly if this team is putting the back-up quarterback in the game, one of two things happened.

Romo was hurt.

Romo is having one of the worst days in his career and keeps throwing the ball to the other team.

In case of the second option, it doesn't matter because the team is probably behind by 24 points.

In the case of the first option, it doesn't matter because other than a hand full of players in this league at quarterback, none of them being back-ups here, the drop off of talent is such that the Grand Canyon looks like a wading pool.

I feel like some of you are either overestimating Romo, underestimating Orten, or probably a bit of both.

Its not like we're going from Montana to Drew Henson here. Orten has been a good quarterback in this league. A guy who can drive the bus and get down the field by simply taking what the defense gives him. Honestly, there are times when i would prefer a guy like that to what Tony tries to do sometimes. With the talent we have on offense, if we have a good OL, Orten could come in and win games for us no doubt in my mind.

Sure, if the OL can protect Orton. That's a big if.

A 39 year old Jon Kitna did it two years ago with an even worse Oline then we have now, so I see no reason Orton can't now.

I agree...many times last year I wish they had played Orton.

And Orton is only 30 years old, so he has many years before his arm turns into a water pistol. He is smart, good size, and is capable of leading the team.

I wish Dallas had saved the monstrous salary given to Romo, played Orton and focused on drafting a good young QB for the future. I am not sure Romo will ever take this team to a SB. I hope he does, but I have no faith in his abilities late in the year.

Well if the OL plays awful again this year, we're not really going to have a shot anyway, whether it be Romo or Orten getting beat up.
