Yay. Exciting news.
Only an idiot would say that Kitna, and Orton is better than Romo, and these are the type of fans I love putting on ignore.

If it happens that Orton have to play if Romo, goes down then I can see him doing just fine if the O-line holds up he is a steady above average QB imo.

I pointed out the article was from May 11th that was the last time I've read or heard Garrett or Jerry comment that no decision has been made on who's going to call the plays. Garrett isn't honest or upfront about anything he repeats the same things over and over and OVER. He has a script he's been repeating ever since he took over as head coach. The guy sounds like a broken record. Being candid and upfront isn't his MO. His interviews have become so predictable after about 2 minutes I click them off. Ask him about ANY player and he'll tell you they love football, they're passionate about the game and they do things the right way.

If a decision on who's going to call the plays has been decided it would have been announced. We're almost in June and not having a decisive answer on who's going to be calling the plays in 2013 makes it appear Jerry isn't satisfied with the ability of any of his coaches to call plays. The Cowboys still look like a disorganized team that doesn't know what they want to do. If Jerry wants Romo to have more impute in the offense maybe he should just let him call the plays. That wouldn't surprise me with as indecisive as he is on who's going to be calling them. Maybe the guy who signed $108 contract to run the plays should be calling them. Romo is probably more qualified than any of the coaches.

I actually love the fact that he doesn't tell the media anything. It doesn't make sense to me though, that you say that you agree JG isn't honest or up front about things with the media, yet in the next sentence you say if a decision had been made already, it would have already been announced.

I don't think they have to announce it to anyone.. if the players know, that's all that matters.

JG is (and is not) a lot of things...but he has never seemed to be someone that is dishonest.

Not being honest and upfront about things that the media can feast on is one thing but eventually we're going to find out who's going to call the plays so why not just announce it if a decision has already been made? The Cowboys haven't hidden the fact they're considering making a play calling change it was announced. No team hides who's calling their plays. The Cowboys are only hiding it because Jerry still can't decide on either Garrett or Callahan and is having a difficult time setting his ego aside admitting Garrett isn't the offensive genius he billed him up to be.

Jerry went on and on 3 years ago about how important it was for Garrett to be the head coach and to also call the plays. Now Jerry's saying that even back then the long-term plan was for Garrett not to call the plays. Garrett isn't going to be upfront about players or the poor job he's done at head coach. Even after Ryan got fired Garrett went on and on about how great a job he did. He said we liked Rob Ryan and the job he did with the defense but sometimes you just have to move on.

Garrett was clearly embarrassed about discussing who's going to call the plays a few months ago trying to act like he's on board with not calling them if that's what it comes to when in reality being stripped of the duty will be a slap in his face and will put him one step closer to being fired after the 2013 season if the Cowboys miss the playoffs again. Maybe Jerry should just have Garrett and Callahan stand on the sidelines during games with play sheets covering their face so no one will know which one of them is calling the plays. LOL

I guess dishonest was the wrong word.. let's just say he doesn't feel the need to tell them everything they want to know.

They ask any question, he feeds them the PC football speak.

Yeah. He seems to be getting good at that.

Both Orton and Romo are capable QBs.
I trust Orton just as much as I do Romo.

Your take on trust has taken an interesting turn. I'll actually go out on a limb and say I trust Orton more than Romo. Obviously, Romo is a better QB but people also underrate Orton. But I say that because Romo plays a much edgier game than Orton who will give you a standard drop back,go through his progressions, and won't cost you anything if nothing is there.

Ironically, I might even say he's a better fit for the vanilla offense....

Romo and Orton turn the ball over at about the same rate.
however
Romo has a TD% that is nearly 70% higher than Orton's!
And, of course, the QB ratings are night and day.

Overall, there is a HUGE difference between the two QBs.

But as a backup, we should be happy to have Orton.

I believe he is one of the highest paid backup QBs in the league, but I might be mistaken. There are tons of reports that he has been terrible throughout the offseason so far.

The last time I remember reports like this was when Brad Johnson's arm turned into a water pistol in the offseason prior to the 2008 season and sure enough, Romo went down and the rest is history.

What's the deal with Orton and do you trust him as the backup to Romo going into the season?

one of the highest paid backups..yeah, but how much money is that really? and if not orton, then who do you suggest? lets figure out the alternative before we decide we don't want Orton.

I just rechecked the 2010 schedule, and Kitna went 4-6. My point was the sacks. Can our OL protect Orton. Romo was sacked 7 times in the 5 games he played (McGee played 1 game). Kitna 21 times in 10 game.

Just being picky - Romo led team won 1, lost 5
- Kitna led team won 4 , lost 5
_ McGee led team won 1, lost 0

The sacks did not prevent Kitna from making good decisions and good passes.

You have a point about the sacks. But if they are offset with better passing, better decisions, and a better record, I don't care.
