True they have been awful, over the years though the Astros have had some really good teams they may have come up short but they were competitive

Yea..they've been good at times. Entertaining. I always liked Biggio.

when my family 1st moved to Houston in the early 70's that was a fun team to watch with Doug Rader,Lee Mays, Casar Cendano,Roger Metzger, Bob Watson, Jim Wynn and a pitching staff of Don Wilson, Ken Forsch, Larry Dierker and JR Richards

Why realign? Personally I couldn't care less about the Astros. I don't care of the Ranger ever play them.

The reason to realign is that the Astros are currently in the only division in baseball that has more than 5 teams, and the Rangers are currently in the only division in baseball that has less than 5 teams.

I like the symmetry of moving the Astros to the AL West, but it just adds another weak team to a weak division, so it's not a particularly attractive move.

A lot of good players - I liked all those guys as a kid. Unfortunately the team still sucked.

True it would not be until 1980 when the Astros made it to the post season vs the Phillies. It was also the year they signed by favorite baseball player of all time in Nolan Ryan.

Who knows, maybe the Astros would feast on the As and Ms and actually compete with the Rangers and As.

The Lonestar Series starts next week, curious to see how the Astros approach it. You'd think it would be like the world series for them.

I remember. I was playing baseball in college at the time and the coach actually let us have a radio going during practice to keep up with the games. Heck of a series. The Stros were involved in several extremely exciting playoff series in the 1980's featuring a lot of extra inning games and walk off hits, but just kept coming up short.

I think it's just another interleague series for the Astros. I don't think there is really any sense of a rivalry between the two teams.

I agree there is no real rivaly there, I think many Astros fans like the Rangers and expect to see more Rangers fans at this game than Astros fans.

Side note my office is 2 blocks down from Minute Maid Park and todays game is just letting out. Stros lose 4 to 5 to Pitt

That's great. Do you go to many games after work? It would be great to not have to worry about parking.

I will be in Houston next Wednesday and Thursday. I need to see if the Astros are in town Wednesday night.

I have not gone to many, we have vendors who if they offer me a free ticket I'll go. Again the baseball strike burned a big bridge with me, it would have been one thing to have a few games missed but when they stayed on strike and the WS was cancelled that hacked me off big time, after that I only paid attention to the games if there was nothing better to do.

After all if it means that little to them why should it matter to me?

Because you aren't going to the game for them, you are doing it for yourself. Sitting in a ballpark with a big beer aint a bad way to pass the time.

and I have done that but like many at the end of the day I want to go home and relax. As for the beer I think it is around 6 bucks at the ball park, believe me I would not go because of the beer. :laugh2:

6 bucks is pretty cheap for beer at a MLB game these days.

It just boils down to what you enjoy. If I worked 2 blocks from Minute Maid I would probably make at least 1 game every homestand, $6 beer and all. But that's just me.

If I worked right near the stadium, I'd probably go every few nights. I'll be heading to the ballpark to watch Rangers/Astros on Monday and Tuesday next week, if I was a little closer to the park I'd go to the entire series.

not if it means moving the Astros to the American league. The Astros are NL since they began and need to remain there.

Someone would have to move leagues, but the Rangers are an older team and have been in the AL their whole existence.

The Rangers have been AL since they began - someone has to move.

The Astros have been around longer than the Rangers, but the Rangers/Senators franchise has been around longer than the Astros/Colt 45's. So who moves?

The Rangers wouldn't move leagues. The AL West already has fewer teams (4) than any division in baseball, and the NL Central already has more teams (6) than any division in baseball. Accordingly the logic would be for the Astros to move so every division in baseball would have 5 teams.

Yeah, I think that's what's going to end up happening. If Texas fans have to stay up to watch all those Angels/Mariners/As road games, why shouldn't the Astros fans?

So because you gets a raw deal the Astros should as well? They may move an NL team to the American league but I hope it is not the astros.
