As a Cowboy fan I would love to have Dallas sign one of these guards... as a businessman I'd go berserk if they sign some average guard for that kind of scratch.

I may just have to re-do my mock draft which originally had us taking a CB in Round 1. :laugh2:

Its a whole lot harder then some people think. You just do not PLUG someone in. It is NOT that easy.

We haven't overpayed for anyone like this. Thats the difference. That is an insane amount of money to give to a guy whos a decent guard at best.

So what is the excuse for Archeletta? :D

Not any of the guard they currently have on the roster...

they didnt lose Larry Allen in his prime or anything

No, they just lost a starting offensive lineman, a unit that was arguably the best on the team... but more important, they don't have ANYBODY on the bench to step into the breach...

And it looks increasingly likely that if they do sign a free agent to fill that hole, it will be a free agent with less ability than the one they just lost...

all of a sudden the franchise price tag for O linemen is not looking like that big of a jump. I am thinking some of the teams that could have kept these guys are looking at these deals and thinking about that now.

Oh well, the good news is the Skins now have a gaping hole at RG... and as things stand now, their top backup at the position would be Mike Pucillo... after that, you have the immortal Taylor Whitley, Will Whitticker and Kili Lefotu...

Right guard? Really? I didn't know Randy Thomas left the team, in fact he restructured today.

Derrick Dockery plays left guard. You know...the position next to our perennial pro bowler that made him look good.

Pucillo started for the Bills and Browns before. He has game experience and we used him quite a bit as a blocking TE at the end of the season.

Don't underestimate what Joe Bugel can do. You wanna see the real Derrick Dockery watch the 1st Philly game last season. He is nothing more than big, slow, bad at pulling, and has bad technique. Bugel was always hard on Dockery in practice because he isn't nearly as good as Thomas, Jansen, Samuels, and even Rabach if you can believe that. I believe I read once a quote from Joe Bugel saying he would take a bullet for 4/5 of his linemen. Guess who the 1 he wouldn't was.

We will either sign Leonard Davis or Mike Pucillo will be starting. Either way it isn't a scary situation for us. As someone else on this thread already stated, guards can be plugged in. A good center and couple of tackles is much harder to get.

Even Danny Boy said 'Whoa' to that scratch.

Geez.

their o-line is still better than ours IMO. They have 3 pro bowl type players on their line, and a very solid center, and my bro who is a skins fan said that pucillo did very well in spot duty last year and can play almost every position on the o-line, and is only 27 yrs old.

Randy Thomas should be a pro bowler
Samuels is a pro bowler
Jansen is solid
Rabach is solid
Pucillo is average

They were 4th in the NFL in rush offense last year and were tied for the league lead with the Chargers for least sacks allowed.

They wont miss a beat with a healthy Portis back there next year, and Betts to help him out.

Just my non homer opinion.

holy crap Dem what are you doing? Dont you know you should be bashing us right now? As far as what you said, i have to agree, and thats also my non homer opinion.

Now THAT sounds A LOT more like it. Would be absolutely absurd if he got Hutchinson money.

john clayton reported the 7 yr 49M and 16M signing bonus....

you gotta love ESPN

WoW - how on earth do false things get posted on the internet? This has got to be a first.

Im happy to hear that. This means Davis will probably not be going to the Skins. =)
