Just compare to the eagles. They have Jason Kelce, Lane Johnson, Brandon Graham, Darius Slay and Fletcher Cox
All of those players, despite their age, played every game last year. And Kelce and Johnson are still all pro level producers, Graham had his first ever defensive player of the week last year. Somehow they are all “young” 30s and our 30s players seem a lot older. Might be perception only, but Dallas players seem to age in dog years. Zack Martin is not human so he’s out exception.Just compare to the eagles. They have Jason Kelce, Lane Johnson, Brandon Graham, Darius Slay and Fletcher Cox
IF the Cowboys dont continue to fix this Oline then any hope of a contending run is diminished. WE saw last year and the year before that our Oline isnt good enough. Tyron needs to be replaced with a stud.I’m loving the solid moves the Cowboys have made this off-season so far, but Im also concerned we are quietly approaching a significant personnel cliff in the next 2 years due to age or guys just not quite worth a new contract (T Smith, Martin, Gilmore, Cooks, Lawrence, our DTs, etc)
They’d have to draft extremely well to cover outgoing personnel while also improving other positions
How is that worse when the end result is still the same?Being a .500 team for several seasons.
We've been in a rebuilding stage since the 90's and we've been relevant which is all Jerry cares about barring injuries since Parcells. So this team will still be relevant. Doing anything in the playoffs is another story. We worry about the future too much around here, we haven’t won a Super Bowl since 1995. The Cowboys have a 2year plan to try to win the championship. Let them work it, they drafted well and will continue to do so with McClay and the gang.
Jerry wants a winning team that appears to be a contender. That is his comfort zone.IMO, Being too concerned about the future is one of the bad habits of our FO. If you want to be serious contenders for a Lombardi, what matters most is is the upcoming season.
Teams were winning championships long before free agency. Some of the greatest NFL dynasties never experienced free agency. All those teams were built through the draft. The great 90s Cowboys were built mainly through the draft. KC’s two players that have helped lead them to a couple of championships were players they drafted. The Cowboys have added some high priced free agents in the past and the only one that paid off was Deion Sanders. Free agency is a supplement but you build great teams through the draft.Nobody wins it all without doing well in FA. No team has won it all without getting some high priced critical FA's.
For those satisfied with the status quo this is fine.
For those of us wanting more; expecting more it is not far enough
If they handle their business going forward like they have started 2023 out, they will be well on their way to perennial post-season contention. Add in they need to continue their proficiency on draft day. If they intend to ride with Dak, need to get him extended now.I’m loving the solid moves the Cowboys have made this off-season so far, but Im also concerned we are quietly approaching a significant personnel cliff in the next 2 years due to age or guys just not quite worth a new contract (T Smith, Martin, Gilmore, Cooks, Lawrence, our DTs, etc)

Here’s why Jerry repeats so many of the same mistakes: It’s hard to learn when you cannot admit your mistakes.Teams were winning championships long before free agency. To me the Wagner deal must be a DQ thing, if DQ really wnated him then i think he would be here.. it was 7m cap hit he took in Seattle? We had that so DQ must not have pressed for it in my opinion. With all the cap space the team has accumulated through restructures and cuts, it seems like the Cowboys are primed to offer lucrative 1 year deals to some of the remaining impact free agents.
While it’s surprising Wagner didn’t fit into the teams plans, it may of been more his desire to go back to Seattle. He had a contentious departure, and maybe wanted to make things right.
I’m looking for the front office to be aggressive with the cap space, or we’ll likely go into the season short of the depth we need.
Yep.Here’s why Jerry repeats so many of the same mistakes: It’s hard to learn when you cannot admit your mistakes.
I think most understand this actually, does JJ want to win..yes, is he willing to box up his ego to do it?..NOPEYep.
Clearly some people do not get it: you cannot win the old way because of FA and the Cap. You cannot take five or so years steadily building a team through the draft and trades.
BUT some here are also satisfied with the status quo and attack anyone threatening it.
They fear so much that they will never take the steps needed to win championships
Which is possibly why the clown show is risk adverse in FA.
Probably better than being satisfied with the status quo because they are making lots of money.
Those claiming Jethro and company want to win refuse to admit they want to ONLY WIN THEIR WAY. Other than that THEY ARE NOT INTERESTED.
I don’t get why some folks always trying to turn a positive into a negative. That’s a horrible way to live.I’m loving the solid moves the Cowboys have made this off-season so far, but Im also concerned we are quietly approaching a significant personnel cliff in the next 2 years due to age or guys just not quite worth a new contract (T Smith, Martin, Gilmore, Cooks, Lawrence, our DTs, etc)

Now that you’ve spinned it so that it makes you feel better do you feel better. Jeez. Please show ONE poster who refuses to admit the Jones only want to win it there way. Just ONE.Yep.

I doubt anybody here would agree with me, but I would actually be relieved if there were a couple of seasons in a row where the Cowboys were not trying to contend, focused on rebuilding and clearing out cap space. Maybe a couple of season in a row where they could draft top 5, maybe draft a ready-made franchise QB. Somehow the Cowboys are expected to be contenders every season but never get the opportunity to reset.I’m loving the solid moves the Cowboys have made this off-season so far, but Im also concerned we are quietly approaching a significant personnel cliff in the next 2 years due to age or guys just not quite worth a new contract (T Smith, Martin, Gilmore, Cooks, Lawrence, our DTs, etc)

Dak's contract is oddly bargain right now.Dak's the only outright tough contract to swallow right now.
You always have to draft well. We are doing that.
Yes, there will be large contracts coming up but every team has them.
Especially with what i'm seeing at QB in the NFC this year. I think we got a real good shot.
A lot of these vets are on 1 or 2 year deals and they're not overpaid for what they can produce. We're good right now.
Tony's career and no playoff success to show for it.The roster, at least its core, is getting older. But I'd be a lot more concerned if they'd actually won something.
The truth is, they haven't.
