Look at this right here. Over half of the posters in that thread said we were gonna be screwed because of OScan, and Jerry paid him too fast stupid Jerry move, Scandrick sucks needs to be cut blah blah blah. And here we are 3 years later with one of the biggest serving of crow we've had here in the last few years. Wouldn't you think this would make us as fans be more hesitant to proclaim such and such player a bust, or trash or whatever? We as fans live in the moment way too much.

Read my post again and tell me where I called him a bust. Like I said, I'd be tickled pink if he proves himself reasonably dependable. That's not calling him a bust, nor is it giving up on him either. Claiborne has failed to live up to expectations -- that's simply telling it like it is, not trashing him like many of us have done in the past. I'd agree that we, as fans, oftentimes form our opinions prematurely. I have yet to declare Mo a bust, however.

He hasn't had an extended period of good health since he's been a Cowboy. Here's hoping that changes before it's too late and he's dismissed from our roster. But in answer to your question, yes, we as fans need to be more patient with our players before deciding to label them as trash or busts. I'm afraid Mo's time might be running out, however. Another year of inactivity or lack of success could easily signal his departure.

That's the thing, I don't buy that argument because those are the exact same things we were saying about Oscan before he got good. circa 2012 nobody was saying he had a chip on his shoulder, nobody was saying he had any kind of drive, nobody was calling him good. I'm sure we could archive threads about how terrible Oscan was and how many people wanted him gone, and majority of us were on board with it. I can't lie I was also on board with cutting his sorry tail after that terrible season. And yeah he turned it around and has most of us eating crown now, admitting we were wrong and how Scandrick is a valuable asset now. So it just goes to show how we cannot tell the future, so I don't think anyone can completely write Claiborne off or talk about his mental makeup or whatever, because we really can't predict a players future.

Your recollections don't exactly jive with my own. Most people here who really know what was what recognized that Scandrick was a good player and a good value when his deal was signed, but it was hardly a majority. It might have just seemed that way because the people who didn't like him apparently felt very strongly about that for some reason. But look at the big thread that happened when he was extended. There was quite a bit of support for the move even at the time:

Problem is, if Claiborne miraculously has a breakout season, he'll demand too much money next year on draft status alone.

I honestly think he will be handled in the same manner the Organization handled Murray. Injured every year and then have a break out season. That's if they really want to bring him back. I think to years of good CB drafting (15 & 16) could possibly eliminate that. At least I hope so. We must face it, he was not and will never be what the team paid for.

Scandrick always seemed to be in good coverage but the ball always seemed to be in the perfect spot that year.

And he was playing the toughest CB role (slot) on the field and getting burned regularly by Steve Smith, IIRC. But, the Manning/Steve Smith combo pretty much toasted every slot CB covering they faced for that year and a few other years.

Well, Murray was always a good RB. He had a breakout year when he stayed healthy and the O-line was elite. Claiborne has never showed any glimpse of being an NFL caliber CB. I just hope he can make some kind of contribution this year. Just don't be a liability. Be a decent #4 CB. That's how low my expectations are for him.

Keep him in the slot, I don't want to see him get continually beat by jump balls on the outside ever again by big receivers.

No one here is going to proclaim to not believing in my boy OScandalous. Suddenly, everyone loves OScan. Lol.. Hurllllllllll

There was so much Jenkins love and OScan hatred just a few years back that I though my boy would get run out of town. Funny how that worked out huh.

Once again, I don't expect any responses because the Jenkins lovers changed their colors like well adjusted chameleons.

If anything Jenkins was the one getting all the hate.. Scandrick always got off easy because the expectations were low. The worst I heard of Scandrick was his cocky attitude in interviews. . I don't remember much hate besides some burnt toast comments. He has been a very pleasant surprise.

One, the two aren't mutually exclusive. Two, there were a lot of Jenkins haters, too. Though there wer a lot who complained loudly about both players.

Not everybody knows what it is they're seeing beforel they're informed by overwhelmingly popular consensus.

I was watching the replay of our two games against the Giants in 2011 and I watched Scandrick get toasted all game long on key 3rd downs time after time and it brought back my memories of how much I hated him that season and used to scream at the TV for him to get cut. Last year he was our best corner by far. It just amazes me how the heck did he improve so drastically in just 3 years? Things like that give me hope for Claiborne.

Scandrick has improved every year, it wasn't a sudden one year turn around. Go look at his 2012 stats mainly operating out of the slot allowing only 46% completion percentage against him. Main differences between he and Mo' are mental mainly, OScan just has a far better mental makeup.

Something doesn't sit right with his massive improvement from one of the worst CBs in the NFL to a top 25 one.

Regardless, thankfully our great front-office saw it coming and locked him up.

They have another nickname for Scandrick, too, but I can't recall what it was. It's something to do with Scandrick's belief in his personal greatness. lol

Oscar the Grouch and they always talk about his shoulder chip?

I really don't know.. I don't want to suggest something, because I'm sure I'd be wrong. It was definitely something I read off Time MacMahon's twitter, though.

I disagree. The damage done to his earning potential is done. He can redeem himself to a point but he'll never be coveted as much as he was when drafted. The people in charge of the Cowboys purse strings will not forget anything that has transpired during Claiborne's time with this team. The injuries, the walking out on the team, it will all count against him come contract time. One good season will not cause amnesia.
