Does anyone else remember Scandrick?

I was watching the replay of our two games against the Giants in 2011 and I watched Scandrick get toasted all game long on key 3rd downs time after time and it brought back my memories of how much I hated him that season and used to scream at the TV for him to get cut. Last year he was our best corner by far. It just amazes me how the heck did he improve so drastically in just 3 years? Things like that give me hope for Claiborne.

It's possible. Claiborne's biggest issue has been health. That's kept him from getting the reps in to build confidence and just learn the pro game. I haven't given up hope on him, but the window is closing.

How do we come to that conclusion though? We used to say there is a world of difference between Scan and other top notch CB's back in the day.
I am talking mental. Take a good hard look at Mo and you see a spoiled prima donna from college who has not yet grown up and frankly does not look like he will. Scandrick buckled down and worked his butt off to improve. I see very little of that from Mo.

So you also admit that it is possible for Mo to turn it around, if he buckles down and goes at it hard? Just like Scandrick?

Fans are too quick to give up on players. If we had listen to half the "cut him" doomers, we'd have no team.

We live too much in a microwave generation, and we want instant results. But that's not reality.

You see all that?

Every young CB takes time to adjust, but I remember Scandrick always exceeding expectations. He was drafted the same year we drafted Jenkins and many people thought he outplayed Jenkins their rookie year. Then he became very good in the nickel guarding slot receivers, but people were mad because he still had trouble against teams' number one receivers. Then we gave him a medium sized long term deal and everyone complained. It turned out being one of the best contracts on the roster and people still complain. And now he's elevated his game enough to guard top receivers and still be elite against slot receivers. He's one of the stars on our defense and the only star in our secondary.

Agreed.

The coaches certainly expect players to improve every year; some fans want to call a player garbage after 1 year, or even one game.

Patience is a virtue.......that's what my mamma used to say. She also actually said, "stupid is as stupid does".

Scandrick is a up and down player.

Usually starts the year hot and then eventually fades.

Last year we never saw the fade. He was a quality player all season for us.

Lack of practice certainly has hurt him but I would say the zone scheme does not fit him.

Being physical and playing a zone is just not his strength at all.

He's a see guy cover guy.

The Mental makeup of Claiborne has been discussed quite a bit by local media. Mostly to the tune of lacking self confidence. Carr is in a similar boat. He has been said to really focus on what is being said about him by media members and they believe it has some affect on him. You could visibly see his play deteriorate after the Det game 2 years ago. Scandrick is the complete opposite. The guy simply does not care about that kind of stuff. The media absolutely hates him because he basically thinks their a bunch of idiots. He's always had a chip on his shoulder. He did suck early in his career, but his mental makeup allowed him to cut through everything else and still improve. Claiborne may have the ability to improve(though I have my doubts) but his mental makeup is not similar to Scandrick.

Hmm that's a very interesting take on the situation. I didn't know that Carr and Claiborne cared that much about the media. That's definitely not good for CB in the NFL. The media is ruthless everyone knows that. You have to have ice veins or they will tear you apart. I really hope that's not the case. Although I believe with our improved pass rush, it will make the corners look a lot better, and in turn their confidence would increase and they actually would play double better.

Thank you, now that kind of explanation I can buy. It sucks that he keeps getting hurt I really do feel that if he could stay healthy and get in all the practice time, he would turn some heads on the team. Maybe his body just isn't built for the abuse of the NFL.

Yeah man....i'm one of the few still holding out on Mo fulfilling his potential....I honestly believe a big part it hasn't happened is the injury setbacks that have hurt him and have prevented him from getting some much needed PT in the preseason.

I
I think the difference between Mo and Scandrick is that Scandrick has the drive to better himself, I don't see that from No. Just my opinion
i agree. Seems Morris was thinking he was so talented it would translate to the NFL andddddddd he was wrong lol

That's because he's my boy. I had faith in him since day one. Love the progression. Glad we didn't jettison him before allowing natural growth to happen.

Now about that Mike Jenkins guy..

:muttley:

I agree, but we played more man coverage with Carr last year, so we could do the same with Claiborne. I think Marinelli is good at playing to strengths, but Claiborne has to get healthy to develop his.

The difference is that Scandrick had Newman there to take the heat from him. He had time to get better with Newman embarrassing himself left and right.

MO doesn't have anyone to take the beating. And he's slower and less instinctive than Scandrick. I don't see Mo being around long.

Who ???

Thread title is odd. I would be shocked if anyone had forgotten Scandrict.

Spagnola has a nickname for Scandrick, probably what all the media calls him. Sandpaper.

They have another nickname for Scandrick, too, but I can't recall what it was. It's something to do with Scandrick's belief in his personal greatness. lol

I have never seen OScan get toasted. Early on he would give up a lot of completions, but he was always there to prevent yards after the catch.
