Does anyone else worry about Ogletree sticking?

Stanback wasn't so much a Jerry pet as a Jeff Ireland pet.

Why is everyone so sure that keeping Ogletree means cutting Stanback? I mean, it may mean that, but I havent seen anything where Wade or Jerry say the limit is going to be 5 WRs.

Why retain the title of "GM" if you don't plan on overruling somebody?

Everyone knows Jerry has final say.

Does he take the advice of his scouts? Yes, he probably does because he isn't an idiot. Jerry's as much a fan as any of us here so hes overzealous at times but he isn't an idiot. So yes, he most certainly takes the advice of his scouts.

However, nobody can sit here and say that Jerry hasn't or wouldn't ever pull out the trump card make his word the last word on the matter.

According to those in the meeting Jerry does have the final say and there are times he has sided with the scouts when there is no consensus and there are times he has listened to the coach. I think BP respected Ireland’s views and still does today in Miami. Just as Tex and Tom listed to what Gil Brandt had to say heading into a draft. Jerry sure as heck does not have the time to scout these players and coaches have their own players to deal with during the season so they are not out scouting players.

Because we are keeping 3 QBs and 2 kickers this year. There simply will not be room for a 6th WR, especially an oft-injured on who has shown very little improvement in 3 years and has an undrafted rookie showing him up in practice and pre-season games. I say go with Ogletree, keep 2 other WRs on the practice squad and if there becomes injury problems at the position, go sign a veteran like Matt Jones.

Jerruh was very much on board with this pick and talked about Stanback a lot - so trying to blame Ireland is bogus.

The player that really excited Jeff Ireland was Isaiah Stanback. He had seen him play QB 3 or 4 times, but when the area scout brought back a tape of him, Ireland "got chills up and down his arm." They went back and put together a reel of him playing WR and they would stop the tape regularly and talk about him and his vision for the game. He talked about Stanback as a good kid who they think can transition to WR, but they might line him up as a QB some and use him as a returner on special teams. This lead to a discussion about Stanback and comparisons to Anquan Boldin. We can only hope! They are still waiting for him to fully recover from the foot injury and hope he’s ready to go by training camp.

He had a lot of quickness and suddenness for a big guy," vice president of college and pro scouting Jeff Ireland said. "A lot of big guys his size don't have the suddenness he has."

And Ireland's dark horse? Stanback, possibly the biggest reach of all. http://www.bloggingtheboys.com/2007/8/12/14158/4088#

this is my take on Stanback in 07

trick plays Stand back is a poor mans Randel El

So, you think that they will give a roster spot to a rookie 4th rounder that can't contribute? I'm thinking....... practice sqaud at best. They waived last years 4th rounder in training camp. I don't see why this guy is better than skyler green who actually did play wr and return kicks in college

Don't think he will amount to much

not being harsh telling it the way I see it - I saw him play in College - he was like I said nothing special - he may be an AFL or CFL player - sorry guys JMO

you got inside info

Jaguars were set to take him with the 14th pick in the round according to Isaiah when he got a surprise call from Dallas.
doubtful another wasted fourth rounder - I eat my words if turns out to be the best thing since
M Irvin at WR - but like I said hes nothing special
A wasted pick

How hes suppose to be a WR - when other WR's have playing that position for years - I can't see him on the team - I will recant my words if he is the Next M Irvin - but doubtful when we could of had a back up for Fergie NT Paul Soliai 6'4" #330
which is a much more pressing need than a project player
or CB Tanard Jackson
who were both drafted after Stand back

Someother guy
you can't recognize real talent when you see it as this kid is going to be really special. I can see him being a special teams demon returning punts this season as well as developing into a go to type receiver in the future.
His future looks really bright and I'm glad the Cowboys were patient with him

I lol when I so right

No, I think even Jerry sees that Stanback is not working out, I think Kevin has already made the team.

Nice picture Amish!

If they try to hide Ogletree on the practice squad, he's a goner. Might as well trade him now.

I will be absolutely furious if they tried to pull such a move.
