Does anyone even care about the NBA lockout?

I love the NBA but it's football season.

In January I'll start to miss it but I'm fine with them not playing and enjoying this Mavs title another year.

Basketball does not start until March anyways. First the conference tournaments then the Big Dance and finally the NBA Finals. They have plenty of time to get this done.

Local businesses and arena workers are getting killed.

Drop in the bucket compared to 120,000 people staying at home on a Friday night instead of heading out on the town because the Spurs aren't on. We got rocked tonight. Same with our other locations. It's not just a local phenomenon either.

Arena workers are only doing it a few days a week. The local businesses are still making more money if they aren't wing joints or located specifically around the stadiums. I say the NBA lockout has a net positive economic effect overall.

Every restaurant worker in every NBA city cares. They're making more money the longer it goes on. That doesn't count wing joints and sports bars, but I wouldn't mind a bit if they cancel the season tomorrow. I figured it out last year, how much a Spurs game costs us, and its been pretty accurate this season.

A weekday away game, $1000 in sales. A weekday home game, $2000 or more. Weekend away game, $2000 to $3000. Weekend home game against someone like a major draw Miami or Lakers, $3000 to $5000 or more. So you take that and multiply that by 18% and that tells you how much my staff is loving no NBA games.

Long live the lockout!

You lose money during a sport?

82 games is ridiculous. Just completely moronic. which is why no one cares about the NBA until January at the earliest anyway.

Then add to that the fact that the whole season only tends to eliminate one third of the teams; the rest make it to the playoffs that last until JUNE.

No wonder so many could care less now.

As a basketball fan I care, only because I hope to see them market teams over individuals again and I hope David Stern is somehow fired.

The entire thing is a mess on both sides. But it's the best thing going for the college game. And I'm loving the charity league games in random HS gyms.

I'm a Rockets' fan so the lockout seems like a pretty good idea to me.

Die hard Lakers fan here. I'm not missing it that much because Cowboys season is still going on, but once the season is over if there's still no basketball I will not be very happy at all. Also when you get embarrassed the way we got embarrassed by the Dallas Mavericks as a fan you just want the season to start already and for the playoffs to arrive so you can get that bad taste out of your mouth.

I care because I love the NBA and coming off a year where it was the best in about 15 years this is really getting on my nerves. I hope there is a resolution soon.

The less games we play, the less we can lose!!! :lmao2:

The season really would have just started, so I don't miss it too much yet.
I'll miss it a ton soon enough.

It sucks for the Mavs in that they are reigning champs and not getting the full exposure for it.
On the other hand, they have an older team that could be helped by a short season.

College hoops is a GREAT substitute though. And being a UNC Tarheel fan this season will not suck.

The new rules would probably mean the mavs can't re-sign Tyson Chandler

That's a huge blow then for their repeat chances. They simply don't win without him.

I thought Dirk was a god amongst men?

Dirk is incredible but without Chandler we have no chance.

I gave up on the NBA a few years ago. I was going to try and watch a game last year and I simply couldn't. Fixing a playoff series just annoyed me to no end.

I hope you are not talking about the Spurs/Suns series.........cause there is no reason for Stern to fix it so the boring, small market Spurs would win any series, especially one over the ever exciting Suns.

I miss the Spurs....Duncan and Manu dont have much longer......I hope they get this resolved so I can get at least this season and maybe one more out of both.....

GO SPURS GO

Dirk is great, but he still needs a big like Chandler to protect the paint. I just look back at that the Lakers series the Mavs needed a big like Chandler to protect the paint against the Lakers huge frontline. Chandler clearly outplayed Bynum and obviously Dirk badly outplayed Gasol which is why Dallas swept them.

During a Spurs game, absolutely. Playoffs are horrible for us. Where I usually run with 9 servers and 3 bartenders on a weekend night, I'll cut it down to 6 servers and 2 bartenders. I haven't run month-to-date numbers yet, but it feels like one of the best Novembers we've had in years. This weekend was great.

The Rangers in the ALCS and WS really hurt us this year too. Usually baseball has no effect. Cowboys games can be hit or miss depending on what time the game starts. We can have a poor lunch when they play at noon but make it up with a higher than average Sunday night like we did last weekend.
