dumb comparison. peterson isnt anybody, or like any of the backs before. he doesnt live off his speed or just power, he does it both at a elite level. has not much wear and tear, didnt play much in college. hes got easily 3-4 more elite years left. one is enough to win the bowl...

I think you undervalue some of the great backs that have come before Peterson. They weren't just anybody. Several are in the Hall of Fame and still when they hit their thirties had a significant decline in their performance.

I consider having over 2000 career rushing attempts to be some wear and tear especially when you factor in that Peterson had a major knee injury. Peterson didn't play much in college because he was always dealing with injuries. He led the nation in rushing attempts his freshman season, but his attempts went down each year after because of injuries.

It's hardly "dumb" to compare Adrian Peterson to running backs of the past. Is he condemned to follow the norm? Not at all. But there's a reason why running backs start breaking down around 30, and it would be abnormal to think Peterson will be much different.

And I disagree with your assessment. Adrian Peterson's game is largely predicated on his explosiveness in general. He's not an elusive guy and he's taken (and given) plenty of punishment over the years. And he's had some pretty significant injuries; most notably the ACL tear.

I, personally, doubt that he's got 3-4 more years of elite play in him. And that's the reason why I don't think he'd be worth the 12MM a year.

again, you cant compare him to the rest. the only guy you can MAYBE compare him to is jim brown, thats the only guy who matches up with AP in terms of talent and skills. the rest of the elite backs in the history of the game dont compare to peterson, most of them were speed backs that lived off their quickness. by the time they hit 28-29 they arent threats anymore. just like the case with pass rushers. some guys like strahan can go after the QB until their mid 30s because they dont live off their speed. other guys like aldon smith will be done going after the QB when they hit 28-29. but whatever, like i said i think AP easily has 3-4 more elite years left. and if its 2 elite years and 3 1,200 years or whatever its still gonna be an amazing accomplishment and well enough to win multiple bowls (in terms of his own contribution)

We need a guy like this that can overcome a lot of Jason Garrett's crap with just pure freakish ability.

If he were a few years younger this would be a no brainer but he could turn average any day now.

I can compare him to the rest. I've seen plenty of great running backs. Peterson is very talented and among the group of greats, but he isn't above them. There have been plenty of great backs where speed was not their primary attribute and they declined past 30. Many of the great running backs did not have a torn ACL in their career. I like Peterson, but it is unreasonable to believe he will continue to play at an elite level for much longer and be worth his enormous salary.

this team has zero room to aquire any top level free agents for the next five seasons. If we are going to make a run we will be drafting well. Guys like AP will only get here if they falter and we grab him on the cheap. That's not going to happen for a few yeaRS.

Only way to get him is by way of a trade..........he will not be a free agent until after the 2017 seasons........I believe he will be 33 at that time.

So what would the Vikes want for a trade? If Richardson was worth a first from Indy, then Peterson would be at least 2 first + a second..........thats at a minimuim................we got too many holes on this team to give up high picks like that.

Ah, come on man! Why not give that much for a player? The Commanders do it all the time.

Do you even know who the career rushing leaders in NFL history are? Because all of them had important attributes besides speed. 7 of the top 10 were 210 pounds or bigger with 4 of the top 10 over 220. Of the three that are smaller than 210 only TD at 192 was less than 200. The two running backs not accounted for, they would be Walter Payton and Barry Sanders.

Maybe AP is the real true holder of the running back secret sauce and he can break the pattern that every running back before him has followed, but to act like its ridiculous to be skeptical of him is dumb.

Nah.
Demarco murray is a good back..if Demarco can't stay healthy..find a back like Demarco that's big, strong, nice blend of speed that can pass block, rush, catch passes out of the back field.
Demarco Murray reminds me of Matt Forte except much stronger.

Here's the thing: our window is now. Romo ain't getting any younger, Ware ain't getting any younger, Witten ain't getting any younger. I say break the bank and try to win a Super Bowl with Peterson will you have the chance.
