They have a funny way of showing it ..... he got late hit countless times last year and never got a call.

He got an obvious speared helmet in the first game and never got a call.

Refs miss stuff. The league's reaction will be of interest.

Romo will get hit because he throws on the move -- and when you do that you are often stepping into the path of a defender -- the d gets more leeway from refs when the QB is moving. Romo also got hit b/c he, by his own admission, tended to move up in the pocket.

Some of that really comes down to Wade. Wade needs to get in the ref's ears every time there is a late hit or anything close to it. He's a bit quiet on the sidelines and that doesn't help the situation.

Offensive skill position players don't get fined. Offensive linemen do on occasion get hit with fines. A fine may remind McGinest to keep his head up when tackling someone, so he doesn't break his neck.

As I said I just do not agree with the excessive fines on defensive players. Defenders are not dealing with stationary targets they are dealing with players who are moving around or stepping up. If a player was intentionally trying to put a player out then I have no issue with fines and suspension I just don't care for the Monday fines being handed out against defenders for playing the game.

I agree with you. It is tough as a defender to hit a moving target. It is inevitable that you will hit a QB late a time or two. I just think there is a big difference between hitting the QB late and leading with the top of your helmet.

I am sorry but he put his face is Romo's chest. Perfect form tackle honestly. If my world, that is not a fine, but in Bizarro land called the NFL it is. He will be fined but her really shouldn't. It was not a dirty play. If you tackle any other player like that, its a good tackle, the NFL just takes steps to protect QB's.

I guess Romo's chin started bleeding on its own? Nice trick there.

I just think it is hard to prevent it. You try to put the helmet in the numbers and as guys are stepping up into a throw these things will happen. I think this is a bit different than when we see a player spearing another. I think the rules are just a bit unfair to the defenders in the league who have to deal with some pretty athletic players week to week.

I don't think he intended harm. However, I think he should be fined simply because of fines and penalties that have been levied on Cowboys players for less damaging hits.

I still get irked over Darren Woodson getting fined $75,000 for his hit on a receiver when he didn't even lead with his helmet.

Just so you know I was against those fines as well. I try to be consistent be it our players or others. I don't want to see defenders get to the point where they are afraid to make plays because it could lead to fines.

Well if there is justice in the NFL... Yes.... McGinest should be fined. Too bad the refs can't be fined for not calling it. ;)

There was nothing worth fining on that hit. Aikman got hit that way all the time, and there were never fines...though I admit that this is a different era now where it might as well be flag football.

It did appear that the Browns defense was determined to rattle Romo by knocking him down on every pass play after halftime. What other choice did they have? Romo was in the pocket reading a menu on every pass attempt in the first half. The Browns defense wanted to make sure he heard footsteps. The good news for us is that it didn't work, cut chin and all. He was far from rattled, and took the hits like an all pro.

...Aikman was hit so hard that he could stick his tongue through the hole. I can't remember what season or game, but for a couple of weeks after that he sported a large bandage over his chin.

As for the myth that the NFL was tougher in the old days I think anyone with a sports medicine degree or in football equipment manufacturing can easily debunk that myth.

You take any player from the past 5 years and transport them back in time 20 to 30 years ago with modern equipment and you would be witnessing a mess. Players are bigger stronger and faster and their armour has had to infinitely improve to meet those technical requirements.

Head shots are lethal shots now. 30-40 years ago they caused people injuries, but not quadraplegia and death as we hear so often nowadays in minor and pro ball.

Right on the money.Romo never get's any calls from the refs like Farve or the Manning boys get.that hit should have been a flag period.something is wrong with these refs when it comes to the cowboys.im sick of it.

i agree with you man. fast and physical. don't think Brady's hit was cheap, and I don't think McGinnest intentionally meant harm.

Yes, I agree wit you and Dooms.

Unless you have actually played the game at whatever level, the action is just so fast that rarely do players plan a dirty hit. Instinct takes over. Sometime it just happens to appear to be dirty.
These things are happening in a split second and I would say that 90 percent of so-called dirty hits were just players hustling and instinctively acting and thinking later.

I just saw the play again and it's a no brainer, he launches head first into Romo's face.

if the NFL truly cares about protecting their QBs, esp. star ones

he should be fined, and I think he will

You must not have seen the game played in the 50s and 60s or even the 70s and 80s. QBs in the old days left the game with regularity they were so abused. WRs were mugged, too. OL slapped around and head butted. No face masks to not much of a face mask. Helmets that did little to limit concussions. It's a safer game.

Sorry but the game was a lot rougher then. I'm glad they're more protective now but at times the calls are Mickey Mouse.

Exactly.

Anyone that thinks the game is just as tough now (or tougher) than it was 'back in the day' is completely clueless.

Just watching a "Highlight" video of Dick Butkus or Nighttrain Lane would "Debunk" that theory.
