Does Murray look slower this season?

He is just sitting back and waiting for the holes to open more. That makes him appear slower but I bet he hasn't lost any speed in the 40. What I do notice is that he falls forward to gain those extra yards than in years past.

Agree. Like the way he still picks up yardage with that forward momentum.

He's not the same runner he was in College as far as having that high top end speed.

The guy totally transformed his game and is a great player because of it.

He has been caught from behind several times this season on long runs.

When he first came up with the Boys he seemed faster.

I remember his 91 yard TD run against the Rams.

Maybe he is playing at a heavier weight this year to help absorb the punishment he is getting with the high

number of carries he is getting per game ?

I am thinking bigger means slower ?

Maybe it's the two gallons of water he drinks and 10 pounds of water weight he apparently gains before each game.

I seriously don't know what people are watching out there. He looks incredibly quick, fast and explosive out there. He has a ton of respect from opposing defensive players and coaches because of his rare ability to be so fast, quick, explosive and powerful.

Murray never had top end speed at Oklahoma. He was always more quick than fast. He's being worked more than ever this year so naturally he's going to lose a step down the field.

Honestly, he's one of the worst open field runners I've ever seen. It's just not his strength.

first of all extremely long runs by a RB are rare, Murray is great upto 30 yards and does seems to be at top speed which is slower than most DBs

Not patient??? He's arguably the most patient back in the league in how he waits for blocks to develop.

Sorry to disagree. I think he leaves yards on the field not waiting for holes to develop. Runs up his blockers backs before they make contact with the defenders. Happens alot on the off tackle stretch and screen passes. The counter play may not be on him and perhaps a pulling guard is slow coming out of his stance at times but it's what I observe. On the other hand, he's a very good down field runner and with this "issue" (not being patient) there are NOT a lot of resulting negative plays which is paramount for TRomo to run this offense.

This has been talked about before. From my observation he's been getting bigger and with the added size and power he has gotten slower. You can go back to his early days at Oklahoma and he was a totally different type of runner. Wiry and fast. His early years here he could still run away from people like he did against the rams. But now he is easily caught from behind. Injuries could also play the part but nothing has ever been said. Someone else has speculated that like Miles that he doesn't open it up because of hamstring issues. But I've never seen that reported by the media.
I think the hamstring issue plays into it. I think he figured out that his hamstring issues came after ruuning full speed and now he holds back a little. He apparently studied and researched ways to stay healthy according to some reports I've heard.

He worked out with Witten this past offseason. He said last week that he was 210 within 24 hours before the game but would be at 220 by game time. He drinks some unbelievable amount of water leading up to the game.

I think he is patient and shows decent vision at the line of scrimmage but struggles some in space to read blocks. That's where you see him running into WRs blocking on the perimeter and down field.

Yes and I don't mean to knit pick since there are other duties to the job that are very important such as blocking, pass routes and catching out of the backfield which he's also good at.

Adrian Peterson is more talented, but we don't need that kind of stupid on this team

Let me be clear, I like Murray and think he is extremely talanted, he just seems a tad slower in the breakaway speed departmnet this year.
