Does the 1994 NFC Championship game still bug you?

He's a good scapegoat I guess, but it wasnt his fault that three guys who hardly ever turned a ball over did it in the first quarter. The guy coaching also had nothing to do with our extreme injury situation then either. The game was also pathetically officiated, as it was extremely one sided towards SF.

If I remember correctly, Larry Allen (filling in for the injured Big E) was playing RT on an extremely sprained ankle.

Only thing that bothered me was the early turnovers that put Dallas deep in a hole. I don't look to blame refs even when I disagree with a call. Had Dallas not put themselves in a hole early we would have had a better chance of winning.

I have to break it down to more basic logic than this. It doesn't matter what went on in the game up to that point. When we had our best shot at taking over the game the refs screwed us on a very obvious call.

Then there are the facts surrounding the 49ers having cheated to put together an all star team violating salary cap rules, and it still wouldn't have been enough had the refs not so blatantly screwed us over. The 49ers have an asterisk SB for that year, like Denver a few years later.

Bad calls happen it is just a fact, when teams do not put themselves in a hole it becomes easier to overcome a bad call. I don't think anyone intentionally screwed us over. 9ers won the SB that year no asterisk about it

Yes it does. But I guess I'm pretty old, or have a real good memory, because the one that still bothers me to this day is Super Bowl V, Cowboys and Colts. I remember like it was yesterday.

Yep...still stings. Especially when you look at what that win would have done for us in the record book (1st to #5, 1st to 3-peat). What was amazing (and probably a by-product of gun totin' BS running the squad) was how all the errors that put us in the hole were by our star players! No doubt in my mind that we would have won by two touchdowns...

Actually, as much as I've always hated the 49ers, that was the ONE thing I actually liked about that team--I loved those jerseys--actually it was the numbers that I liked. I liked the look of the black shading behind the white numbers.

That game showed me how true warriors Aikman and Irvin were.

They never gave up and given more time, I feel they could've pull a WIN.

We also let them convert on several 4th downs to keep drives alive after they had gotten the early TOs. Not a great day, but the refs did screw us on that PI card, which would have given us major momentum heading down the stretch. We actually won the 2nd half of that game fairly convincingly.

I don't deny it was a bad call but I have been watching sports for a long time and bad calls happen to everyone. I have never liked it when people have said Dallas won because we got ripped off by the refs and I refuse to use that reason. 9ers won, I was proud of the way our guys fought back but we came up short in the end. Had we not made so many early mistakes chances are the outcome would have been different but it is what it is.

I cannot have a favorite Cowboy loss. Thats just me.

A testament to the team's resilience? To me, we were THAT good that we could have won the game. Spotting them 21 points was a joke. We should have won easily. We were unprepared.

Many disagree with me but JIMMY never lets that first quarter go the way it did. No way.

Oh and to answer the OP. It only bothers me when someone reminds me of it :D

LOL!

I agree. How can you have a favorite loss?

I also agree that if Jimmy is head coach, the Cowboys don't turn it over. Yes, Aikman and company were ultimately responsible for the turnovers. But the Cowboys were a different team under Jimmy than they were under Switzer. Jimmy ABSOLUTELY HATED turnovers, and he drilled into his players that they should hate them too. I think the subtle facets of coaching disappeared under Switzer.
Besides, the coach is responsible for making sure his players are ready, mentally, to play a big game. Jimmy did that better than many coaches.

Oh, and it's not just Jerry's ego that got in the way, but Jimmy's too. Jimmy Johnson had no intentions of coming back to coach the Cowboys. He sabotaged his way out of Dallas.

LOL

You know what funnier. Give it another year or two and some fans will petition to remove Jimmy's name as HC of Cowboys. It will blank. If you listen to some people he had nothing to do with the dynasty. :laugh2:

I think Jimmy was a reasonable conversation away from not retiring. Jerry just couldnt do it.

That was one of my first thoughts.

Not to steal the thread, but the worst loss was the Ice Bowl followed by SB V. But they're all serious.

It's unquestionably grating, especially given the historic feat for which they were aiming.

Having said that, the 94 Championship game is my favorite Cowboy loss. It was testament to the team's resilience and character.

I would love a copy of the game. Does anybody know where I can find one?

I may have a copy on VHS, will need to look. But most likely was so PO'd about the calls, I might have recorded over it to hopefully, but not successfully to erase the bad memory.

Probably one of my most favorite Cowboys games.

For some reason, in Tampa, the game was pre-empted. The game came on and the score was 21-0. Pat Summerall said, "We welcome you. Please don't adjust your television, that is the correct score."

Can anyone else remember why it would've been pre-empted?

I was a kid and I remember crying like a baby after that freakin' game. It's actually the earliest game that I can remember in any detail.

The good guys lost and the villains won. :(

(later in life I found out that we were the NFL's bad guys) :D

How can you not have a favorite loss?

I accept Cowboys history in totality, not only the wins. I would always rather win than lose; however, in retrospect, there is significance in varying degrees to be gleaned from all games, even the losses.
