No, Camp will help bring things into focus, pre-season will help as well

I do feel a bit better about the offense line...

The other young talent... some optimism.

3 words: Run the ball!

Protects Romo, protects the defense. We have the O-line to do that now. I know this is a passing league, but the best teams like the 49ers & Seahawks win with that philosophy. Hopefully Garrett finally practices what he preaches.

2 issues...
- 51-48
- This team seems to take its foot of the gas once building a big lead (GB, Detroit, etc)

Defense will matter more than you think - that's why Denver spent all its offseason resources there - and they weren't as bad as Dallas

I agree that the defense has to improve and I think the team feels the same way....................7 of our 9 drafted players were on defense (almost 80% of our draft)

how much more can Romo do and what do you suggest he do to add more to his game? im just curious.

OK..

What I'd like to see with Romo is more play calling coming directly from him.

Not the coordinator, assistant coach or head coach.

I think he needs to really be cut loose and let him call his plays and let's what happens.

I mean Payton Manning does it.

Tom Brady does it.

Too often I think Romo gets into situations where the play called just isn't executed like it needs to be.

Good Lord..the guy is 34, had 4 HCs and played in several Pro Bowls.

Cut him loose.

If he's successfully.. Wild.

If not, we have lost nothing and we'll move on to a new QB situation.

I want a final verdict on the Tony Romo story.

How's that?

thats what hes done when he came in, the organization changed him, he was a gunslinger. now you want that, dallas screwed that up and didnt ride that wave. Now if he reverts back im afraid the interceptions would only get him hung. Even if the team did that, i think it would lead to even more injuries but his inclination is to run and while he was once good at that, hes now to vulernable for that.

lets let the line work for him, bring the game to him and stop playing from behidn the 8 ball and start making more ue of our 2 WR and our young TEs. I think its time for the team to step up to accomodate Romo

I think we are going to score some points, and be terrible once again on defense, probably a 7-9 type year to be honest.

Hard to say if we will be better or not. Looking at the schedule, I thought 7-9 but you never know about injuries on other teams also.

I did like McClay 1st draft, have a lot of faith on how he evaluates players. He wants speed, smarts, team player, and leaders. Belive he got that in the draft. We might not know some of the guys like our 4th rd guy but by all rights a player.

Martin helps immediately. I believe he starts at LG and that will be his home for years. He makes the run game better, much better and in turn will make the defense better because they won't be on the field as much.

Lawrence is to me the real deal. Had a chance to see him play in person. He nevers stops. As a 4-3 DE, he will dominate a lot of games. Sure we have to see to believe but this guy will prove to be one of the steals of the draft.

Hitchens was a head scratcher but when you see the stats, the MVP of the defense, the team captain, and then know he will backup Lee, well then it is a very good pick.

Street at Austin 3rd WR spot will be much better. Really believe we got lucky here and actually the kid from Missouri and Vanderbilt we signed as UDFA will either be PS guys or make life difficult to see if we carry six WR.

Gardner is going to surprise a bunch of people. Hard worker, smart, team captain, can play RDE or LDE or 1 tech or 3 tech. Won't surprise me to see him in the rotation at all.

Bishop's well a poor man's Donald. I really think he either takes Bass or Hayden spot on the roster. Way more active and more upside.

Dixon is the old style SS. Kid can hit but just not sure how he will figure in the mix. He is a great ST guy though.

Smith seems to me as the ST pick. Should be a beast on ST.

Mitchell is an interesting case. Could have struck gold or be one of our 1st cuts. Have to say I like Skinner and Phillips (both UDFA) almost as well.

Clarke OG Bloomsburg and Najvar TE Baylor are guys to watch to me. Easily could see Clarke at RG and a starter soone. Najvar is a great blocker and could be used as a HB also, never had much of a chance to catch the ball the way the O was run and has better hands than people believe.

Robinson from Ferris St at FS is a guy to watch. At 6'5 and 220, has great size if he can play. Could also see him moved to another position.

Whaley from Texas could figure in the mix on the D line, the kid has some great talent but never ever put it together. Someone turn his lights on, please.

We may not like the choices much but overall, I believe the team is considerably better than last year on defense and the offense will be better with Martin at LG and Street at the 3rd WR spot. Do we believe the combo of Lawrence/Melton is better than Hatcher/Ware because ultimately it comes down to that consideration. IMO, it is but we aren't far from finding out.

1) Can Jason Garrett out-coach opposing coaches in December

2) Can Tony Romo justify his contract late in December and

3) will this defense solidify to point of giving them shot in playoffs.

1) In December? How about September, October and November? Unless we see some significant change we all know the answer.

2) Not as worried about Romo in December as I am about Garrett justifying his own contract.

3) If everything falls our way - - - - -maybe.

Now would you or anyone here bet any of your own money on any of the 3?

Look at the coaches we are going up against this year. Harbaugh,Carrol,Fisher, Coughlin twice, Kelly twice, Payton. Ouch

How confident are you? How much of you own cash you gonna put up?

We are gonna need something seriously different than what we've seen from RedBall so far.

I don't look at this draft class as adding multiple wins to the season.........................I am sticking with my 7-9 prediction.

This is a great point. I can go down list of the players drafted and I don't see the first player that will add wins this year. There is not a big play impact player on the list .

That's not his intent AFAIK. I'd like to see Romo run some up tempo offense and call some of his plays at the LOS. I don't think he needs to do that a great deal though.

The offense isn't the problem. It is the defense. So I'd focus there.

Absolutely agree. It was unlikely with the draft picks we held for us to put together a class that would vault us into title contention this season. People get all excited and think you can just plug in a bunch of holes with rookies and be OK, but that's not really the case. Look at the final 6 teams and find all the rookies getting significant snaps. There weren't many.

We have a ton of holes and as such, I'd imagine our rookies will see significant snaps. But outside of Martin, and to a lesser degree Lawrence, most of it will probably be spot duty. A rotational defensive linemen here, a backup safety there, a special teams guy here.

Martin will be moving inside, which will be an adjustment and Lawrence will play in passing situations. Broaddus said that Lawrence wouldn't be a starter this year and I think he has some serious work ahead of him before he can play every down. These rookies are not gonna step in and make a big difference this year.

Not so much do I want him to be a gunslinger.

But clearly..he was better when he was as opposed to now.

And yes his actions are a factor and his injury situation.

But this happens to 34 yr. old QBs.

He needs to take the sum total of what he knows and go play his game.

Bill Parcells once said..

"if you want me to cook the meal, then let me buy the groceries"

Romo needs to call his own plays.

I think it would complete the missing gap in why he gets caught with miscues, turnovers and Ints.

No true confidence in the play call and it's not being previsualized in his head enough.

Yep.

You asked me a specific way Romo could improve his game.

Sorry if a clear answer got under your skin.

Before the draft started I went on record as saying that Dallas needed to fill 2-3 holes on defense to have a chance this season(I know that is a lot to ask of one draft).
Giving up a third for Lawrence was not smart IMO. And I thought we reached for a couple picks.
I think Dallas added some quality depth in the later rounds. But I ended up feeling pretty underwhelmed with this draft. We needed a couple players that could step in day one and contribute defensively. Dallas may have one with Lawrence. But I have some doubts about him.

I didn't think Dallas would be contenders this year and this draft didnt change my mind.

So u don't think our $100 Million QB and STACKED Offense can carry this team? LOL
