Does this draft immediately make us closer to the eagles/commanders?

I feel this draft was a good draft. So I think we have moved closer to the Commanders and Eagles in that regard. But we won’t be a legit challenge to them.

I see it as if this was a foot race the Eagles and Commanders were 50 yards ahead of us. With this draft we have moved to 40 yards behind them. So we may be closer but there is still a lot of ground to make up. We’re going to be behind the Eagles and the commanders for a long time until this FO gets away from its stubborn refusal to use FA in any meaningful way.

Didn't Philly and WASH also get to draft players this weekend?

If so, then I think its fair to say every team improved by a small unknown amount... just as every team does every year. But for the most part, the 2025 season will be decided by the guys that were on each roster BEFORE the draft. If you're needing a bunch of rookies to start on your team, you probably are a bad team

If WAS and Philly weren't allowed to draft any players this weekend, then we likely closed the gap just a little bit, but they're both still vastly better than we are.

Hope that answers your Q.
I suppose it does matter how each teams’ draft grades out and then pans out.

I think we’re trading for a WR, Or someone is getting cut after the draft. Maybe we bring in Bond as UDFA. We have to find a #2. Tolbert ain’t it

To the Eagles?

No, full stop..just no that’s a complete team

To the Commanders? Idc what they did last year….A LOT of their games were won with seconds to go that team could’ve been 6-11 if those passes don’t connect

However they made a nfc title game….and yes I think we could come in 2nd and if Philly has a down year we can win the nfc east

I can see us battling for 7th seed if can stay healthy. That would be an improvement.

And maybe teams in front of us have some costly injuries. Never know.

It will depend how well other teams improved. We can’t always measure just by what we have done as other teams can improve more.

No not really. I like booker but you are not a superbowl team because you have the best guards.

Our DTs are below average to average.
The DEs have question marks. Parsons disappears at times.

Both CBs coming off injury. The 3rd pick is coming off injury and will start on PUP list.

Who are the LBs again and we have no safties.

The RBs are below average. None of the WRs not name CD are reliable or ready to be WR2. The QB is 31 and coming off injury

The tackles have question marks....

I think eagles and commanders are still way ahead. Giants closed the gap with us.

Another disappointing year is upcoming. We look like a 6 or 7 win team at best
Yep.
You pretty much nailed it in depth CFIH.
I was a tad more abbreviated following right after you but with the same sentiment.

no way not even close. especially the eagles we are not even in the same level.
Eagles lost a lot in free agency plus being Super Bowl champs the following year let down ! Washington won 5 games they could have or should had lost Insee them going backwards some this year so we will see if we stay healthy I think we can compete with them !

No. Drafts are to keep pace because everyone drafts. The Eagles had another good draft too. To get ahead you have to draft much better than your opponents.

The Cowboys draft was okay, but it did not improve them in the areas where they needed the most improvement. But, we have to see all these rookies take the field and prove they deserved their selection.

Seems like a good draft. Certainly Dallas is a better team after the draft, but the same thing can be said about every other team.

Building a quality roster truly is a "process". Sadly for Dallas, it's not just about drafting. Contract decisions, free agent decisions, roster decisions & trades all factor in. Too bad a senile amateur is making those decisions.
Yeah, I agree we drafted some really good football players. I like most of the players we drafted a lot.

My problem is collectively, I don’t see that this draft made us more competitive with the teams ahead of us. We have not really addressed. WR, DT or RB to the point we are able to run with the big boys. Just my opinion.

Draft seems to say the team has reservations about Dak staying healthy all 17 games. I think you are on the mark about being a fringe playoff team but they’re not doing themselves any favors by putting it all on Dak and CeeDee as far as offensive weapons go

Let's face it...with almost no significant free agent activity and a mediocre draft, we will be competing with the Giants for the cellar. Unfortunately, another sub .500 season.

Washington I think we can talk about.

I think Philly is a lot better than we are and they greatly improved their defense.

Early take on our draft is most of the guys we got are really good football players. The guys from rounds 1-3 will all either start or have big impact almost immediately. The Day 3 guys are ok on paper… BUT I can’t say that this draft has immediately put this team in a better position to compete with the eagles and commanders. I Just can’t.

Don’t get me wrong, I like the guys we drafted in rounds 1-3.
  • 1st rounder Tyler Booker is a plug and play beast at G, I wish they could’ve traded down a couple spots to pick up a 4th rounder, but still a solid pick. A high character guy who was a captain at Alabama.
  • 2nd round DE Donovan Ezeiruaku is a very talented pass rusher. EZ is also a high character guy who was also a team captain at Boston College.
  • 3rd round CB Shavon Revel is a first round talent recovering from a knee injury. Where have we heard that before? Hopefully he’s fully recovered by Sept.
No problem really with those guys as far as their talent. They should contribute immediately. But if we are all being honest without the blue tinted fan glasses, the Cowboys STILL have glaring weaknesses at WR, RB and DT, three positions they badly needed an influx of top shelf talent.

So on Day 3 we acquired:
  • 5th round RB Jaydon Blue and he’s fast but he’s also small and not more than 8-10 touches a game guy who has had fumble issues. Are we better at RB? Hmmm….
  • 5th round traded up to get Florida LB Shemar James. A talented kid if not a little small. Seems a lot like last year’s 3rd round pick Marist Liafau.
  • 6th round picked up T Ajani Cornelius from Oregon. Backup swing T was not on my bingo card as a pressing need.
  • 7th round got UCLA DT Jay Toia, a big aggressive DT. But does this late sleeper suddenly make Mazi Smith a bad memory?
Like all drafts we need to wait on grading the 2025 Cowboys draft for at least a year; probably more like two years. Starting immediately, fans and the media will issue grades now but we really won’t know until pads are on and the real bullets fly in the regular season.

But if I am answering the question, “Did this draft get us closer to the eagles and commanders?” I would have to say no at this point.
What a negative post following one of the best drafts I can remember. Eagles lost 6 starters. We played without our starting QB last year and Rico dowdle. Dak as weak as he is, owns both teams. Yes we are closer.

I'm not so sure the Redsk....Commanders will repeat their success. I've seen DQ's teams play this song before, so being better than them didnt seem that big a deal, to me. Now Philadelphia, no, we did not close the gap. But I think we all knew this (Cowboys) mess couldn't get fixed in one year.

It's a fickle game. If Hurts gets injured, how ugly would it get for them as well?

I love our 1st two picks, apprehensive about the third and scratching my head with the rest. Guess we will see, lol.
