Does Tony Romo belong in the HOF over Eli Manning?

He beat the goat twice in the biggest game of all, that has to count for something. He was the MVP in both those games. He does have some major skins on his wall. Plus he’s 9th on the all-time passing list.
Looks like he's in

They should rename the hall of fame after him for doing anything of note under Garrett and this dysfunctional franchise. But no I loved him as a player but not a chance.

one Super Bowl win then yes, but the playoff success just isn’t there

Winning championships is always going to elevate players more on the bubble or otherwise statistically undeserving. And it should.

Football is a sum sport. We keep score . Winning matters . Fortunately the HOF also recognizes great talent on lesser teams .
True, but but to make the HOF based on basically an handful of games of one's career when the rest of it was pedestrian is counter productive. Not that they can change it now but generational talents should be the ones that make it in. Namath, Theismann, Terrell Davis, there are scores of others that probably should not be in but they are because their team won a handful of games. If football is a sum sport the argument can be made there should not be a single individual in the HOF except maybe coaches.

I like the vast majority of your posts man but if you flip the script here and go post 2012 'til retirement then I personally can't give a free pass for Eli's performance.

He accumulated longevity stats while doing the consecutive games streak but all the while achieving a career .500 record as a starter. For that many games started I need to see more evidence of a difference maker.
I get all the public perception and last name and career stats numbers but Eli Manning's teams had 2 great SB team runs.

Kinda like Flacco. It's just Flacco just had one SB team run.

The first part of his career was probably HOF worthy maybe as you mention but then he fell off a cliff if you ask me.

Yeah, kinda takes the shine off an “iron man” streak when it ends not because of retirement or injury but because you’re benched for poor play!

Or maybe Favre can beat him; Favre-Brady would have been the best SB matchup maybe ever. Two guys widely considered top 10 alltime QBs. Has that ever happened? Elway-Favre, Montana-Marino? GB was awesome that year and only lost in overtime in the NFCCG
Montana-Elway too. And maybe someday Brady-Mahomes will be seen that way.

He led the league because he threw 500+ and 600+ times a few seasons in the 90s. His numbers compare to Randall Cunningham and his CFL success is a whole other discussion.

Warren Moon was a run and shoot QB.

I know because I was an Oilers fan before I was a Cowboys fan.

Drew Hill and Ernest Givens were my favorite players in my youth.

Hill ran a 4.3 40 back in the 80s and 90s, which was really fast back then. He's currently at #53 all-time receiving yards.

Neither. Romo was considered a better QB than Eli for the majority of their careers.

Yep, as so-so as his career playoff stats were (they were not as good as Romo's) he had a nice Flacco-like run that one year in 2011.
It's a great argument for longevity. Knock on the door often enough and you may end up getting hot at the right time for once.

How do you figure Romo's playoff stats were better?

The only thing Romo wins at is QB rating and INTs.

Yes,
QB rating (which combines yards, comp %, TDs and int)…Romo way better
TDs to Turnover ratio….Romo way better

I mean Warren Moon got in the HOF and never played in a AFC or NFC championship game

but his stats for the times he played in were amazing plus his CFL stats were other worldly

Right. But his QB rating was only a few points better.

The only thing he was way better at was INTs.

As a Romo homer, this hurts me to say. But it's true.

Romo: 6 playoff games___185 att, 114 cmp, 61.6%, 1316 yds, 8 TD (4.3%), 2 INT (1.1%), 93.0 rating
W-L record___2-4

Manning: 12 playoff games___400 att, 242 cmp, 60.5%, 2815 yds, 18 TD (4.5%), 9 INT (2.3%), 87.4 rating
W-L record___12-4

Not much difference between completion pct. and touchdown pct. \ Manning's interception pct double Romo's --but only 2% versus 1% \ Romo rating 5.6 higher than Manning

However - Manning had TWO 'nice Flacco-like runs'
2007___60.5 cmp%, 6 TD, 1 INT, 97.5 rating, W-L record 4-0
2011___65.0 cmp% 9 TD, 1 INT, 103.3 rating, W-L record 4-0
