Does Tony Romo belong in the HOF over Eli Manning?

Eli has the fact he’s in the top 10 all time in passing going for him. That’s a mark the HOF committee will strongly look at.

Which coupled with his 2 Rings and impact factor will bode well for him.

But I still don’t believe even if he does get in at some point, it won’t be first ballot.

IDK .........here are two scenarios, one suggests he should be the first ballot, one does not

Romo was definitely the better QB but right or wrong voters take a couple of things into account that favor Eli ....

1. Cumulative career stats like yardage and TD's. I know, Eli was less efficient and effective than Romo, and he has this edge only because he played longer, but voters do notice these things, and Eli is top 10 all time in both categories.

2. Postseason success. Voters have always considered this heavily, especially with QB's. Realistically Aikman doesn't have HOF type stats, but he led a highly successful offense on a highly successful team, and had some big playoff and Super Bowl moments, and that propelled him to the HOF.

Not necessarily, neither Dan Marino, Dan Fouts or Warren Moon have a ring but they’re in the Hall of Fame. Jim Plunkett has two rings and isn’t in the Hall of Fame. The voters look mostly at the numbers and playoff performances.
They love rings when it's close like it is with Eli.

Stat base......probably but HOFer's QB position is winning Super Bowls. Eli has two.......deserve or not.

2 Superbowl wins are well 2 Superbowl wins!

Manning will be in the HOF one day and Romo not......

He beat the goat twice in the biggest game of all, that has to count for something. He was the MVP in both those games. He does have some major skins on his wall. Plus he’s 9th on the all-time passing list.

Eli was lucky...the most lucky athlete ever. All he had to do was hand the ball or heave it up.

Two big bruising RB's. Couple three WR that chased down his random heaves. BIG STRONG o-line. Decent defense. He had everything Romo mostly didn't.

Romo isnt getting in before Eli and it has everything to do with Playoff wins and Superbowls...and Romo getting in at all is almost 0%

is Romo a better QB than Eli is though? yes and its not that close imo

Romo had two major factors that kept him from a SB and playoffs wins

Coaching and Defense

Nope. Eli never missed a game and always showed big up when the stakes were highest. Eli is a HOFer, Romo is a wannabe.

Team game or not a team game? Which is it?
When you have more than 1 player on the field it's a team game.
Every team sport has a most important position and that in the NFL is QB hence why it absorbs the highest % of the Cap for most NFL teams.
When your QB rises to the occasion(And Manning did) and brings home 2 Superbowls well you do the math.
HOF........

Manning benefited from two fantastic catches in my opinion. Like you mentioned, David Tyree's helmet catch in Super Bowl XLII. Extremely weird indeed. So many receivers have tried trapping a ball thrown over their head on top of their helmet. It is extremely rare seeing someone do it. Even the best who ever played typically drop those passes.

There is also Mario Manningham's sideline catch in Super Bowl XLVI. Manningham catch the ball with two defenders on him, got pounded but still managed to keep both feet inbounds.

Subtract those two outstanding plays by Manning's receivers and Brady has two more rings.

you could say that about a ton of games like “the catch” or the catch by the steeler WR against cardinals and on and on

manning still had to put the ball there in the SB twice

What led up to that throw mattered but gets lost in the sauce. Not to mention that Eli had no business not getting sacked in the first place. The idea that he got a throw off AND it was on target is insane. That's what happened, I'm not really arguing "what ifs"
True. I’m just saying Eli will be in the HoF in large part for winning those SBs. Samuel makes the int and one comes off the board. The pressure on him in the 2nd one would’ve been magnified by the failure in the first so he might not have won the 2nd one.

The statistics quickly say yes. Romo's completion rating, touchdowns, interceptions and quarterback rating all state that he is a better field general than Eli. Eli threw for about 800 more yards than Romo, but his completion rating was five percentage points lower and he attempted more passes. Eli had 15 years in the league compared to Romo's 13. Not a fair assessment is it?!
Actually it's inaccurate to compare years in the league for these quarterbacks.

Out of Romo's 14 seasons (2003-2016), he had 5 seasons that basically were null & void with regards to him playing QB:
2003___3rd string - never got on the field (inactive or on practice squad)
2004___6 games - as a holder for FGs only
2005__16 games- as a holder for FGs only
2015___ 4 games started as QB - missed the other 12 due to injuries
2016____injured during preseason; played ONE SERIES = 4(?) PLAYS as QB in season finale (his last game)

Romo started 127 regular season games = 8 seasons

Manning started 7 games his rookie year - then the next 14 seasons - before only starting 4 games in his 16th and last season.

Manning started 234 regular season games = 14 & 1/2 seasons - which comes out to 107 more games - equivalent to 6 & 1/2 more seasons - than Romo.

Also: Manning started 12 playoff games; Romo started 6 playoff games.

Emmitt was such a moron towards the end of his career.

He would rather be a subpar RB than just hang them up. All about himself and the record, and the teams and fans suffered from his huge ego.

My favorite moment as a Cowboy fan was watching Roy Williams stick him so hard that Emmitt cried, after his diamond comment.

Never thought I'd say this about a player who was key to so many SBs, but good riddance. I was glad to see him when he arrived, even happier when he finally left.
Emmitt had about the same stats his last season as Zeke did last year.

There are some average QBs in the HOF, Theissman, Namath, Bradshaw (SB Wins), Griese (SB Wins) so an average QB getting in due to SB wins there is precedence for it. To get in without a SB win you need pretty spectacular stats like Moon, and Marino. I left Kelly out since he did make it to 4 super bowls

+1
