Does Tyron Smith Worry You?

I am a little bit worried as well, especially about the sack to JPP and the almost-sack to Watts. You rarely saw LA or even Flo Adams gave up a sack so quickly. Perhaps he is not as big/wide as these two.

That Watt sack was more about Watt timing the snap perfectly

The guy shut down Watt, Quinn and the Seahawks. He's banged up. He'll be back to his old self in a few weeks.

I never believed he was the top tackle in the league. I'm not even sure he's top 3. That being said he's only 23 so I'm not worried one bit. He's still young and will continue to improve. He's not a finished product.

Honest question; who said he was the top tackle in the league?

Watt jumped the snap count, don't feel there was much Smith could do on the play that Romo pivoted and found Williams for the TD.

Murray's execution on a chip with Bruce Irvin was horrendous, in fact, Murray chipped more of Tyron Smith than Irvin on the play.

I'm assuming these are examples OP is talking about with regard to Smith's play.

Now yesterday, JPP got the better of Smith no doubt. When motivated JPP is one of the most devastating DEs in the game. A lot of tackles, including those as talented as #77 are going to have days like that against him.

Playing LT in this league is by no means easy, Smith is developing into one of the best. He won't be 24 until December. On the list of Cowboy concerns, he's way down the list for me.

Weren't some people writing articles about how his game against Quinn was one of the most perfect performances of an elite player dominating another elite player?

If there was a search function, i'd find several posts (especially around the time he signed his contract) claiming he was. I've read it several times on here.

He's not the second coming of Walter Jones. That's a given. He's still better than most LTs out there, and as a whole is playing very well.

Like another poster pointed out, Tyron was hobbled at the beginning of the week and it was not known how severe the ankle situation was. I think he's not at 100% so I think he will have his share of battles lost. Even if he was healthy he's not perfect so he would still lose a battle every now and then.

Did someone say Tyron is the best LT in the game? I didn't see it that posted.

He is possibly the best in the NFC, however, Joe Thomas has to be considered the best LT in the NFL at this stage. He isn't 30 yet and has made the pro-bowl the last 7 years, and been All-Pro the last 5 (including 3 1st-team All-Pro selection in the last 4).

Yes, I worry about the OFFENSIVE TACKLE that was just named *offensive* player of the week. Hopefully Parnell will take over for him once Free comes backs.

Yes, I know this is nitpicking. And yes, he won the player of the week last week and is a great talent.

But it seems week after week, he is getting beat by everyone who lines up across of him. Granted, these are great players in Watt, Irvin, JJP but some of these aren't even close and it leaves Romo in a vulnerable spot. JJP was bullying him at times it seemed yesterday before he got hurt.

I saw some of this stuff in preseason as well.

Thoughts?

Absolutely not! Joe Staley got absolutely embarrassed by Demarcus Ware several times last night. It happens to all left tackles.

I think if a left tackle gets beat by the likes you mentioned once or twice a game, that's still a huge win for us. Watts for the most part stayed away from him, Irving was almost non-exisitant and JJP has been trash all year and seemed to find a different gear against us like he always does. You have to remember that Smith is hobbled also.

If he completely shuts down 80% of the players that line up against him on a consistent basis (which I think he does) that's a success.

T. Smith is one of the elite LT's in this league and I have ZERO concerns with him.

Why is he not the 2nd coming of Walter Jones?

Are we talking about the Walter Jones that got beat for 2 sacks by Ware? No way Smith could ever be that guy right?

Someone already detailed the reasons why I don't fault Smith on the Watt and Irvin plays that people seem to have ingrained in their minds. JPP got the best of him about 3 or 4 times in the run and pass games that I can remember. But honestly, if you were a fan of the Giants and you saw all the time Romo had to throw for most of the day, and the run yardage they gave up, you would've been disappointed at JPP's play. If Ware had that performance against one on one blocking in his prime then it would have been discouraging.

What bugs me is when fans just claim someone isn't the best at something and then can't mention the best. Really, who's playing better LT than Smith this year? I'll wait.

P.S. Not my whole post was directed at you.

I've always said that Smith struggles against very fast rushers. However, he can take them out of the game for large portions of the game, PLUS, he destroys them in the run game.

Ummm no.

You're going to get beat once in a while. It's the NFL. The guy lining up across from Smith is almost always going to be the best player at rushing the passer on that team. It's going to happen once in a while.

According to coaching statistics, Jones was beaten for a sack only 23 times. That’s less than twice a season. Some tackles get beat for a sack twice a game or more. Jones allowed his quarterback to be sacked only once in every 248 pass attempts or .004 percent of the time.

Walter Jones is the most dominant LT in league history. Saying that Tyron isn't the second coming is hardly an insult. I think Tyron is still a top tackle, considering we give him ZERO help most plays, but he is not as dominant this year in the passing game as he was last year. That isn't to say he is playing poorly, just to say that sometimes you don't win 100% of the time. It's like great QBs. Some seasons they'll throw 8-10 picks, sometimes it'll be 16. Tyron may be having one of those years in the teens, but he's still fantastic.

hes got a bad ankle from last week. you know, the one he had mri on? and dude, he dominates players every week. Watt is the first guy to really beat him all year and I will gladly take that as a wash since Romo wasnt sacked. he has flat dominated JPP every year when he wasnt hurt.

last year JPP quit trying he was getting mauled every play
