Does Tyron Smith Worry You?

I think he was more injured yesterday then we probably know, just a guess but he was hurting enough Wednesday to have a MRI on the ankle.

Or maybe we should just resign Alex Barron to replace Smith, especially for the Skins game.

I think that ankle is worse then the boys have been letting on. watching Tyron he was playing a little differently; trying to anticipate the rush; not something he was doing before. That is the sort of thing you do when you know you are not 100% or close to it. trying to get an edge. Sometimes you guess right and sometimes you guess wrong.

It is fair to say that Tyron is not having a great season by his standards.

He's getting beaten badly once or twice every game. I don't think he got beat more than 2-3 times all of last season.

I think if a left tackle gets beat by the likes you mentioned once or twice a game, that's still a huge win for us. Watts for the most part stayed away from him, Irving was almost non-exisitant and JJP has been trash all year and seemed to find a different gear against us like he always does. You have to remember that Smith is hobbled also.

If he completely shuts down 80% of the players that line up against him on a consistent basis (which I think he does) that's a success.

T. Smith is one of the elite LT's in this league and I have ZERO concerns with him.

Yeeesh, just looking at the butchering of the emboldened names makes me wince, i mean come one bro! I will admit that the misspelling of player names, esp household names (a la JJ WATT) AND fellow Cowboys, are a huge pet peeve of mine BUT most of the time, I am able to exercise control and refrain from the insta-callout (key words: most of the time). There are a few times HOWEVA when exceptions must be made due to the heinous nature of the misspelling (i.e. WHITTEN) and the insta-callout is acceptable. THIS is one of those times. WATTS was bad enough but when you combine that with IRVING and JJP, oh brother, you are just asking to be put on full blast! Come on HATC, i know you're better than JJ WATTS!!

No problem, we here at Cowboyszone.com have been looking for a new grammar policeman. The last 275 grammar policemen all moved on to bigger and higher paying jobs. I feel you are up to the task and hope you can stick around for a few more days.

Walter Jones is the most dominant LT in league history. Saying that Tyron isn't the second coming is hardly an insult. I think Tyron is still a top tackle, considering we give him ZERO help most plays, but he is not as dominant this year in the passing game as he was last year. That isn't to say he is playing poorly, just to say that sometimes you don't win 100% of the time. It's like great QBs. Some seasons they'll throw 8-10 picks, sometimes it'll be 16. Tyron may be having one of those years in the teens, but he's still fantastic.

Well I'm saying that the first game of the season against Brooks and yesterday against JPP are the only few times I've seen him truly beat this year. He's not having a down season. Please name a LT who's playing better.

And 10 years from now some fan on a message board will indignantly make a statement like 'hey, he's playing well but he's no second coming of Tyron Smith'

Yes, I know this is nitpicking. And yes, he won the player of the week last week and is a great talent.

But it seems week after week, he is getting beat by everyone who lines up across of him. Granted, these are great players in Watt, Irvin, JJP but some of these aren't even close and it leaves Romo in a vulnerable spot. JJP was bullying him at times it seemed yesterday before he got hurt.

I saw some of this stuff in preseason as well.

Thoughts?

No he has a bad ankle and was going against one of the few human beings on Earth as freakish as he is. He will be fine.

By the way, the Irvin pressure was not his fault.

Now that you mention it, we might really want to consider making a change at left tackle during our bye...
Well, Parnell's getting valuable experience at RT right now. When Free's healthy, we can start him in at LT where he used to play. And then instead of arguing about whether we have a top-3 or top-6 or top-10 left tackle, we can all agree that we have the very best swing tackle in the NFL.

As everyone know the best swing tackle is good for a cup of Gatorade when you come to the sideline after a TD.

I don't think he played his best yesterday because he usually shuts JPP down. The only left tackle I would take over him would be Peters. He is young and still maturing.

These guys say hi...

You could even throw Witten in there too. IMO the interior of the OL has been playing at a higher level than the OTs so far this season.

I've been a little concerned. We know he can't win them all, but he gets paid well to win a little more of these battles than he has been lately. Romo's Jedi antics have made up for some of it, but eventually he's going to get crushed if Smith is going to let good pass rushers beat him every week.

He's been getting beat week after week? Maybe I'm watching the wrong games

What matters is how he grades out.

Also, he doesn't need any help from the G and very little from the TE unless they are trying to trap block somebody.

I think your expectations are a bit too lofty to be realistic.

Yes, it is nitpicking and No, not at all. Best young LT in the NFL. Everyone gets beat, but let's start with Romo holding the ball too long too often if we are going to be overly critical. Also, remember the guy had an MRI this week on his ankle and wasn't even certain to play.
I think his ankle was an issue yesterday. He normally dominates JPP

Like another poster pointed out, Tyron was hobbled at the beginning of the week and it was not known how severe the ankle situation was. I think he's not at 100% so I think he will have his share of battles lost. Even if he was healthy he's not perfect so he would still lose a battle every now and then.

Yea, that ankle is not 100% and you could tell it by his lack of lateral agility yesterday..............JPP speed rushed him several times and Tyron could not get the cut off block, that is a key indicator that his footwork was off.

Hopefully he will be fully rested for the Skins game.

Keep him out of the Washington game and let him come back for the last two games before the bye.
