Seriously, does an NFL team fire a HC after an 11-5 season and a division title???

I dont think so, I think Wade gets his 1 yr extension EVEN IF WE LOSE NEXT WEEK.

I agree with you, but it will be a tough decision everyone is saying we need to get rid of wade phillips but what happens to our defence afterwards? our defence is playing like a top defence
i like the way he coaches i think we will keep him

I've been critical of Wade but I gotta say he's earned it.

The players seem to like playing for him and he is getting it done. Hard to argue with what his side of the ball is putting out there.

I give Wade full credit and his due for a December I didn't think was possible. But I still believe we need to win a playoff game for him to keep his job. A first round playoff loss, at home, just means more of the same. But we aren't making the decision, and I wouldn't be surprised if Jerry keeps him regardless.

Playoffs should still be the gage. The emotion of making the playoffs will only make the fall harder w/ a loss. He is awesome and hope for coach Phillips and Romo they get some ! The team should upgrade w/ a loss. Its been a pattern. Its a time to break the pattern.

Even the backups are playing well. One main thing last year after scoring on a long hard fought touchdown drive ,the kickoff would give the opp. the ball at midfield. This year thats not the case and seriously is contributing to the shutouts. Punt coverage is also better than its been in years.
Oh yeah Crayton returned a couple for td's. Props got ot to special teams coach.

I agree. I don't see any alternative. He's earned it with the way the defense has performed down the stretch.

Not if they lose this week sorry.

I just don't see how you bring back a coach who doesn't win a playoff game in three years with a very talented team who have had reasonable health. I like Wade as a person, and completely respect his ability to run a defense, but he needs to win a playoff game.

IMO I think it would take a disastrous loss vs the eagles in the wildcard for him not to be the coach next year. We win he is back, we lose but play well, he is back.

Dallas loses next weekend and he's gone.

If we win, he's back. If not, a division title will quickly be forgotten.

I was listening to The Ticket on the way to work, and they claimed that Jerry Jones stated that "now it is only a matter of paper work" standing in the way of Wade Phillips getting an extension.

They didn't mention when he said this.

Automatic? No. I expect the Cowboys to beat the Eagles again. Then we can talk about it. He had also better hope a great coach isn't available.

Talk is cheap. If that was true, it's 5 second deal. Sign the option agreement and give Wade a copy.

Jerry is waiting as well he should. This team has the talent to win a Superbowl. If they fail to win another playoff game, I think it speaks volumes about Wade's abilities.

Lets see what happens Saturday night first.

I agree.

I don't believe Jerry Jones is convinced that Wade Phillips is the guy.

I said a few weeks ago, I believe Wade Phillips just needs to win a Playoff Game to keep his job as opposed to earlier in the year, I felt he needed to get to the NFCCG.

I believe Jerry Jones wants to keep Wade Phillips but Wade Phillips has to accomplish something significant for Jerry Jones to justify keeping him.

I believe Donovan McNabb is done and Wade Phillips gets the Playoff Monkey off of his back and wins a Playoff Game and is the Head Coach next year.

Jones says Phillips more comfortable as Cowboys coach

Jerry Jones still refuses to say Wade Phillips will be his coach next season, but he gave strong indications yet again that he intends to exercise a clause in Phillips contract that will have him return for the 2010 season.

Asked after Sunday's win over Philadelphia why he won't just come out and say Phillips will return, Jones said, "I don't want to discuss contracts. But we have one. It's there.''

This came after Jones gushed about how Phillips has shown him more these last four weeks than at any time during his tenure.

"He has shown me this year more than any how tough he is,'' Jones said. "He is a thick-skinned man. He is very resilient. There is nothing that he hasn't seen.

"What I have seen in him is a more comfortable feeling in his role as coach over the last quarter of this year than I've seen at any time over the last three years. He got more comfortable, from my perspective, really as we started December.''

Is he saying he has watched Phillips grow into this job?

"To say he's grown into this job is a little presumptuous,'' Jones said. "I do think the job is not too big for him in any way.''

Jones said Sunday that Phillips doesn't necessarily have to win a playoff game to keep his job. He's more concerned with whether or not the team's arrow is on the rise.

Is it?

"I think it is,'' Jones said. "I like our makeup, our personnel.

"I'm not saying I know at all how they're going to do against Philadelphia, but I like our ratio of youth to veterans, where we are relative to our contracts with our players. I like those things and I like the staff influence with these particular players.''

That sounds about right to me.

I think Jerry will bring him back regardless. I think just making the playoffs was good enough for him, plus I don't think he wants to lose Wade as a DC.

But for me, if we lose and go one and done again, I think he should be gone.

In most cases, winning the division and getting to the playoffs should be enough to keep a coach around. But this isn't just any coach. Wade has a long history with several teams of being good enough to get teams to the playoffs, or close to the playoffs, and then that's it. He's never won a playoff game in his entire career as a HC anywhere. If it fails to do so again, and the 2nd time in 3 years here, despite having ample opportunity, then I'd really question if he can ever do it, let alone take a team deep into the playoffs and the Super Bowl. Of course, given enough time he might, just look at Bidwell finally getting the Cardinals to the Super Bowl last year.
But if we lose next week, then I wouldn't want to keep hoping against hope that Wade will finally be able to do it.

BUT, hopefully we will win next win and then finally get that 'playoff win monkey' off our and Wade's back, and possibly even make a major run in the playoffs.

So I do think Wade will be back no matter what happens from here on out, but I think he needs to at least get a playoff win to warrant him coming back.

Ken Whisenhunt is head coach at Arizona, not sure if you were referring to coordinator or head coach.

Jerry has run off a coach that won two straight Superbowls.

So the answer is yes he can, and possibly will, be fired if they don't win Saturday.

However if Dallas takes care of business and beats Philly again on Saturday night then I believe it's a lock that Wade is back for another year.

Unless the Cowboys get blown out by 50 in the playoffs, you have to keep the coach that got you two NFC East titles in 3 years. I believe Wade's contact had a 4th year as an option...so perhaps Jerry takes that option or he extaneds it 2 years.

If we lose Garrett, then I say promot Ray Sherman to OC.

Is this extension they're talking about just a 1 year lame duck extension(picking up the option) or are they talking more than 1yr?
