Maybe. The thing is Philly is a very good team, so it's very possible to lose. All teams in the playoffs are good. I still think we win though.

That's kind of the point. You have to be able to beat good teams. You have to be able to win playoff games. If you can't do that, then we have a problem.

He has to beat Philadelphia this week to keep his job, that is why Jerry Jones hasn't made a move.

I believe this city is going to go crazy if we lose and Wade Phillips is retained.

I think Jerry hasn't made a move because it may take focus off of what is important, and that is next weeks game.

And the "city" goes crazy if Phillips is retained if they lose to the egals in the playoffs?

I have some great 2000 to 2003 5-11 seasons they can chomp on.

I've been critical of Wade but I gotta say he's earned it.

The players seem to like playing for him and he is getting it done. Hard to argue with what his side of the ball is putting out there.

I've been a Wade hater for a while I'll give credit where credit is due. His defensive schemes have been outstanding and the players are playing for him.

I would commit to exercising the team option for next year right now. I still think we need some playoff success for an extension beyond that however.

In other words, I think we have to let the season play out before Jerry commits either way. Which seems to be what Jerry is doing.

Regarding the OP: I don't see why not. He's got the team streaking into the playoffs, the top defense with two shutouts back to back, the team swagger is back. The team feels like a team again. I don't see how we can afford not bringing him back. Jerry was right on the money after all was said and done. (well, not all has been said or has been done). Wade's coming back for sure.

I'd take Wade over Cowher. I think Cowher's just an overrated meathead.
An overrated meathead who went 12-9 in the playoffs, got to 2 SBs and won one of them.

Whereas if Wade loses Saturday, he's 0-5 in the playoffs.

What most folks don't get is you have a winning coach. If you lose a playoff game, it could be because the other team simply outplays your guys...it could be because your players cough it up...it happens.

Players have to mature...but if you are a good coach and you get good players and you keep winning, eventually winning in the regular season leads to winning in the playoffs.

Just ask the SB teams of the 70's and their coach, Tom Landry...those teams were labelled as a team that couldn't win the big one. Was it because they were a finesse team? not physical? Just losers? All that talk ended after several disappointing playoff losses when they finally went all the way...even then they had to lose a SB before winning it the next season.

Why would anyone really want to start over with new coaches next season?

He won one. Tomlin won another one soon after he left. Like I said he's a meathead. And the one he did win I'm convinced they had help from the refs.

He gets his one year extension. If he wins a playoff game, maybe 2, Jerry probably does 3 year deal.

I agree with you, but it will be a tough decision everyone is saying we need to get rid of wade phillips but what happens to our defence afterwards? our defence is playing like a top defence
i like the way he coaches i think we will keep him

Thats the sticking point for me. We are not just firing the HC, we will be firing the DC as well.

For the first time in franchise history and for the first time in the NFL since 2000, the defense has pitched back-to-back shut outs. I think we are also #1 in the conference in points allowed if I remember correctly.

I am not willing to just throw all that down the crapper and start over with a new DC and a new system and at the same time pissing off a lot of Wade's guys (like Brookings).

I give Wade the extension regardless of how deep we go in the playoffs.

Not if they lose this week sorry.

I just don't see how you bring back a coach who doesn't win a playoff game in three years with a very talented team who have had reasonable health. I like Wade as a person, and completely respect his ability to run a defense, but he needs to win a playoff game.

If Wade is fired, Garrett is the next HC. I am 100% sure that Garrett has been promised the job after Wade is gone.

So with Garrett as the HC, who runs the defense that just pitched back-to-back shut outs???

That is why Wade is not going anywhere, there is nobody out there that can come in and coach this defense without totally changing the entire scheme and system. The "Phillups 34" is a unique style of 34 and Wade Phillups is the only guy that knows how to properly run it.

If the defense would have sucked this past month, then I agree that he would be gone if we lose to Philly this week. However, we cannot fire the DC and it just so happens the DC is also the HC.

Spot on, my friend. This is a team on the cusp of something, and we're built to potentially have a pretty nice run if health allows it. If I'm Jerry, I don't let one game dictate Wade's future at this point.

Exactly. We end up firing Wade to appease the masses and send the messages that "one-and-done in the playoffs is not good enough!!1!!1!" and proceed to move forward with a weaker coaching staff as a result. Pass.

Do you know how many home playoff games Cowher lost???

Lets just say it was down right embarrassing to lose that many times at home in the playoffs.

Cowher would be strung up outside the stadium if he pulled that same act here.

I heard somebody say that John Madden lost like 5 straight AFC Title games before finally winning the SB.

Can you imagine if Wade lost 5 straight NFC Title games??? He would be strung up outside the stadium with fans cheering, seriously.

Yeah, I get a chuckle when I hear fans pretend guys like Cowher and Jeff Fisher would pass the muster here.

Fisher's being praised for taking a 13-win team from a 0-6 start the ensuing season to an 8-8 finish. Forget Phillips, imagine that going down here with any coach that hasn't won a Super Bowl (such as Fisher).

I like Bill Cowher, and I think he's possibly the "best" coach available. I also like that he runs a 3-4. But he has a lot of blemishes on his resume. And based on how long it took him to get Pittsburgh over the hump, I don't know that I like his chances of coming here and enjoying quick-hitting, deep playoff success.

If Wade went 0-6 with the 6th loss being a 59-0 beat down, he would be fired on the spot. The fact that Fisher beat a bunch of scrubs to get back to .500 does not fill me with warm fuzzy since the team went 13-3 with almost the exact same roster the year before.

As for Cowher, the only way he ever won a ring was with the refs giving it to him. So his "signiture win" of his career being the most one-sided officiated game in NFL history does not fill me with warm fuzzies either.

Same with Shanahan, the Skins are acting like they just got Lombardi out of his grave to come coach that joke of a franchise. Look at Shanahan's record in Denver since Elway retired, it is a complete joke. Lots of 8-8, 9-7 records and people are getting hard ons for this guy up in DC.
