Does Wade Get Extension Regardless Now???

He has this team playing well and this team plays for him. I wouldn't make any changes regardless of a win/loss next week. Give them all one more year.

This team was "supposed" to be "done" a few times this season. Hell, I thought 8-8 would be the season.

But, Wade kept his team playing. And the defense has been very good these last few teams.

The penalties, that has to be fixed. Other than that. Wade and CO. have earned another year.

Is this extension they're talking about just a 1 year lame duck extension(picking up the option) or are they talking more than 1yr?

This is just the one-year option. There has been no scuttlebutt, that I'm aware of, regarding any extensions.

Until yesterday, the Cowboys had greatly reduced their penalties. In games 11-15, they averaged 5.4 penalties per game, which is pretty good. Yesterday they reverted to old form with 11 but totally got away with it.

We'll see what happens next week.

Seriously, does an NFL team fire a HC after an 11-5 season and a division title???

This one and this owner have before.

Its a shame we can not just demote him to DC and keep him. We need a better HC, Wade is a great DC but we could do much better at HC.

 Yeah, give him another year's extension.
And let's go through another year of grumbling about the cupcake, the marshmallow man, the spineless coach who won't even bench a player (RW) who has disappeared from the gameplan and is only taking up oxygen that other players need.

And did anybody here notice that Houston Nutt was in attendance at the game?
You know, the Razorback connection that jerra would love to have in Dallas.

But let's not get carried away by Wade. I think the players had a little bit to do with the GREAT wins in December.

I think Jerry lets him walk and hires Garrett, in any scenario save a Super bowl appearance. I think he's too scared to lose JG, especially since he's been playcalling a lot better lately.

From Jerry's perspective, it's probably easier to replace Wade as DC than replace Garrett as future head coach. I don't think he wants to risk losing Garrett again.

Two words: Bill Sheridan...

Although I don't really disagree with you. In fact, I've wondered if Jerry is delaying picking up that option because he wants to see if JG gets any head coaching offers this year.

That's been my impression...

I wish that Jerry would just keep the same coaching staff, but I don't think he's going to be able to. I think he takes the risk of losing Wade's defense in favor of keeping Garrett and his offense.

Jerry lost Jimmy because the two of them let their egos get the better of them. And Jerry fired Chan Gailey and then regretted it.

So I think with Wade getting the Cowboys to the playoffs 2 out of the last 3 years (and winning the division in the process), it's in Jerry's best interest to pick up the 1-year option at least. Continuity in coaching staff is underrated in importance. Jerry should try to hold together as many staff members as possible and keep building on past successes. This isn't a team that needs rebuilding, like the one that Parcells had to deal with.

IMO I think it would take a disastrous loss vs the eagles in the wildcard for him not to be the coach next year. We win he is back, we lose but play well, he is back.
This........

I think it's a question of who might be available. If, for example, Cowher were somehow available, and we lost to the Eagles in the first round? I'd have to say that Jerry would be an idiot to bring Wade back. If, on the other hand, we lost to the Eagles in the first round and we were picking from the likes of Chucky and the usual assortment of HCs looking for work, I'd say we probably bring Wade back.

I still believe, regardless of who is out there that Wade's job should be based on winning games in the Playoffs. It was a fair test mark before we got hot and I believe it should still be the test mark. Just as I did not think it was fair to fire Wade during the season, when there was still plenty of football to be played, I don't think it's right to say that just because we have had a good end to the regular season, that should be enough to keep Wade.

In Dallas, the mark of a good season is a Super Bowl. If we want to become Philadelphia and act like we've done something because we've managed to lose in the Conference Championship game, then OK. I guess we should be happy with what we've done so far. We are in it for championships and you can't do that unless you can at least win games in the playoffs. JMO

Guy's earned it. I owe all the Wade supporters a huge apology.

I'd take Wade over Cowher. I think Cowher's just an overrated meathead.

If Wade doesnt give us at least 1 playoff win I say he's gone. Come on, youre all cowboys fans, we all know how Jerry Jones is. He will do ANYTHING to be in the superbowl next year, his ego wouldnt be able to handle some other NFC team being in his stadium playing for the superbowl. I expect a crazy offseason and a new coach brought in.

It's a tough decision for sure, but I wouldn't fire Wade after 13-3 (NFC Championship), 9-7 in a year mired by bad apples, and then getting rid of those apples and finishing 11-5 with an NFC Championship.

This season has guaranteed that this team's success is not just "Parcells Guys". It's Wade's team, and they're maturing and playing great when it counts down the stretch.

He has to beat Philadelphia this week to keep his job, that is why Jerry Jones hasn't made a move.

I believe this city is going to go crazy if we lose and Wade Phillips is retained.

Maybe. The thing is Philly is a very good team, so it's very possible to lose. All teams in the playoffs are good. I still think we win though.

True, but we beat them twice already and this last games really cemented the idea that the Cowboys are the superior team.

We are at home as well.

Tony Romo is playing out of his mind, along with the Defense.

I really don't think any excuses can be made if we lose this game.

Wade isn't going anywhere.

And it wouldn't shock me at all to see Jerry extend his contract another year or two.

If Jerry wants a shot at next years superbowl he has a better chance with wade and his developing defence than he does with a new coach shaking things up which may take time. I think and hope wade stays whatever as long as it isnt embarrasing but hopefully it will be as superbowl champs
