Sparano isn't coming here unless were going to pay him 2.5 million over the next 2 seasons. That's what he's going to be making over the next 2 years. He's going on a loong vacation!!

He's going to be paid that regardless wether he works or not. If it's a standard buyout clause, whatever he's going to make in his next gig will be deducted from that figure. It's not impossible, but I don't think there's been a coach in NFL history who has a non-compete clause in his contract..

Must admit - I do like his fire and our offense was the best its been in a long time when he was here with Parcells and Garrett...

He would make a good compliment to Garrett.

BTW - good point made earlier about Jimmy J. not having a chance with this board after his 1st year. 1-15. Can you image? He turned out pretty good...

Really... What is with these teams firing coaches right now?

Maybe they want to negotiate with available coaches without getting bashed for doing it while they still have a guy under contract?
You want my honest opinion? I think most of these teams expect or hope Andy Reid to be fired and they are going to try and be prepared when and if it does happen.

That's a good call. But I don't see Reid as a good fit in either spot.

Tough day for the old Parcell's coaching tree. On the other hand, the NFL head coaching pool just got substantially diversified.

The difference is Fisher and Cowher have a track record of building up teams. Garrett is a complete gamble. I don't care if it's Fisher or Cowher, I just want a coach with a decent track record. Jason Garrett is a complete gamble but so far he's done a horrible job this season. So many 4th quarter meltdowns isn't always the players, coaching has a lot to do with it too. The Cowboys have more 4th quarter meltdowns this year than their history combined.

How often does a retread coach get his second team to the Superbowl? No, thanks.

Garrett's not going anywhere. Thankfully. He's still alive to win his division after taking over a 1-7 team, for crying out loud. He's going to get at least 3 seasons, during which time, I fully expect him to build us into an actual contender.

But at least we've got a number: two consecutive losses is what it takes for a fanbase to jettison a first year coach. That's good to know.

I've been surprised and impressed how steadfast the support for Rob Ryan had been. I'd figured he'd get two fourth-quarter collapses before he was swarmed. It took, what, 4? That's, like, double-stamina around here.

He can take Jason off the "play-play thinking" responsibility and Jason can concentrate on game management !

We have to pickup a backup RB and a couple of DBs and a pass rusher to go deep in play-offs!

:laugh2:

I'd certainly welcome him if Jason were to accept having an OC.

I'd take a look at Mike Nolan to coach my D next year too.

OMG - Hostile, Reid is not going anywhere, unless HE decides to resign. What would you like to bet?

Jason Garrett is not getting fired after his first full season as Cowboys HC, nor should he. Firing coaches every year is stupid beyond belief.

That's the kind of thing Al Davis would have done with the Raiders.

It was kind of funny when chucky came back after Davis fired him, and beat the Raiders in the Super Bowl the next season.

If JJ fired Garrett and he did the same- this place would melt the entire internet, world wide. :D

That doesn't stop teams from hoping.

True.

I hope the Eagles are dumb enough to fire him. That guy is a hell of a coach.

Reid has never had back to back losing seasons in 13 years which should let everyone know that he is not going anywhere. For every losing season Reid had the eagles always made the playoffs the next season

1999....made playoffs in 2000
2005....made playoffs in 2006
2007.....made playoffs in 2008
2011.....????

Now if they have another losing season then we can have a discussion about him being fired

I've said it before, but I think this team could do with a few more scary coaches. Sparano would be a great fit here, if JG thinks there's a need.

We had one of those. He gave up and quit.
