Done with Dez

The drama with Dez will drag on this season if offense and or Dak struggles.

This offense with Dak probably isn’t going to optimize Dez skill sets.

And we probably can’t justify 12.5 million if your under utilizing him.

He should have continued success with a more prolific passing QB.

I don’t think I would’ve cared as much if Dallas cut Dez when GB cut Nelson or even if we traded him.

The botching of this whole saga ticks me off more than the possible mistake of cutting one arguably one of our best players. This kind of thing makes the entire organization look bad...other marquee players around the league are commenting on how wrong we did Dez.

Dez is gone but this was far from a concise, unanimous decision. If Dak struggles this year, there will be more friction from the people in the organization that wanted to keep Dez. A lot of “I told you so” will surely be heard at The Star. This speaks volumes about how horribly this team is run. At least in the past, Jerry was the sole decision maker...now we have a committee of people running the team.

Bryant the past couple of years has not been one of the Cowboys best players and because of that, his 16.5 mil cap hit, and his childish temper tantrums on the field and sidelines got him cut. If, that big word again, IF Bryant was still as good as you think he is why hasn't he even been asked to even visit a team yet? When players that are actually good and were cap casualty cuts they get swooped up almost instantly, Bryant still nothing. Now as far as your opinion that the decision was far from unanimous, the only one in management and/or coaching staff that has said anything publicly in support of Bryant was Jerry so how you came up with this far from unanimous stuff is a real head scratcher. Yes it wasn't unanimous but one positive vote is far from unanimous. I find it funny that those that are opposed to Bryant's release want to use Prescott's upcoming season with a possible bad season to justify their arguments and completely gloss over Bryant's failuers since he sign that big contract after the 2014 season like with his sharp rise in drops the past couple of season, having the 2nd most in the league last season or his fumblitis and lets not forget his temper tantrums and the fact that he always been just a 1 trick pony of out jumping defenders. He's never been a rood or even an average rout rrunner and as never been able to get much of any separation. These people want to point the finger of fault anywhere except where it belongs with Bryant.

You know no more about who wanted Bryant to stay than I did.

We know Jerry probably wanted him...so what I said is true. If the general manager is against it, it’s far from unanimous. Nobody publicly has said they didn’t want him on the team. Obviously there was a lot of debate about Dez...that’s why he is cut at this point and not a month ago.

Dez was cut on a Friday afternoon and had no clue he was being cut, I’m sure he will take visits next week. Using the fact that he has been a free agent 48 hours later seems a bit silly. The Cowboys kind of screwed him. A lot of teams spent their free agency dollars and filled their holes already so he won’t have the choices of a typical free agent. I have no doubt a team won’t swoop him up and make him a starter.

As I stated before dez was let go because he couldn't tote the Dak kool ade bucket. He only told the truth in all he has stated.

Wait and see what happens when he plays again with a real QB ! Pro bowl with another team. Mark it down I said it.

After 29 years of rooting for this team I'm having a real hard time with how I feel about the coaches, some of the players and the FO. I feel a bit let down with how this team has jettisoned players like Ware, Murray, Romo and Dez now. I've lost my edge with the team. Even in the darker years I've never felt that way.

For some it's easy to just shut the door and laugh, and call out other posters, or question their fandom. Let some of us feel how we feel. I do not trust this FO,QB,OC and especially the HC. Ridicule me all you want, but it’s how I feel. I’m not even excited for the draft, and a part of me want Karma to slap those certain people in the face. But it is what it is, and players come and go it’s part of the business. But it doesn’t mean I can’t be disappointed in the FO and their handling of some of our beloved players. Don’t think that players around the league don’t see how this FO, HC deals with players.

As you said everyone has their opinions but let me shed some thoughts on the players you think were "jettisoned" by the Cowboys. Murray, after getting a fair offer from the Cowboys he sign a big 3 year contract with the eagles who after just 1 disappointing year found someone, the titans, to take him off their hands and salary cap. So in the now 4 seasons counting the 2018 since leaving the Cowboys it will be on his 3rd team in 4 years if he gets sign by a team for the 2018 season. Good players don't jump from team to team like that. Teams hang on to good players. Now Romo. He had several injuries the last 5 years of his career including a very severe back injury. Now I was/am a huge Romo fan and before the OTA's last season Romo was told that Prescott was the starter and he was offered to be the backup and he would still get his same contract. He was contacted by CBS and he made the decision that because of his injury history and his family that he would go to the booth. So early in April Jones released him and just hours after his release he signed his contract with CBS. Now Romo did get 2 offers to sign with teams but still chose the booth. Ware did have a productive year after being released but he also missed games both years because of injuries. Bryant, his downward spiral of production the past couple of years and that 16.5 mil cap hit were the biggest reasons, but not the only reasons he got released.

The bottom line is fans often don't like the business side of the game but it is a very real part of it.

Someone brought this to my attention today. Dez numbers his second year with Romo were eerily similar to his numbers his second year with Dak. Weird that it takes time for QBs to get in sync with him.

Because of one stat? No.
Haley is a college HOFer, multiple SB champ and NFL HOFer. Slightly different than a guy who played at a high level for 3 seasons.
How long do you think Haley was here? How many stats and rings do Perkins and Meredith have?

Allen Hurns, Zeke, Dak, TWill, Beasley play defense?

You can cry all you want.

Justify it however you can.

Rationalize it any way possible.

He’s gone, and I’m not wasting one second more over an ex-Cowboy.

First a few from the Cowboys have said things that have been interpreted by most that they would be supportive of releasing Bryant. Stephen was asked about Bryant's situation he replied something like that everyone has to be accountable for their salary which again most believe that was a sign that Stephen was going with releasing him. Then at the same combine Garrett was asked and his reply was something like production hasn't been what it needs to be at and this is a business. Now nobody knows for sure but I'm guessing that McClay and the new receivers coach were also brought into the discussions. Bryant himself tweeted that it was a group descision so how you got Jerry's vote to keep him was far from unanimous. As far as what the public knows that 1 vote and that hardly rises to the far from unanimous range.

So your saying for just example sake that a receiver like Antonio Brown or Julio Jones for whatever reason were to just now hit the market that teams wouldn't scramble to do whatever they had to do with their cap to land one of those receivers. And just how long do you think one of those receivers would still be left on the market? I've said it before if there is a team that really wants Bryant now even if they spent their cap money they'll find a way to free up cap space to sign him. Maybe, just maybe the rest of the league is weighing the same reasons the Cowboys cut him as whether they want him. They all know he's turn into a dropsy receiver the past couple of seasons. He's fumbled more the past 2 years than his first 6. He's never been a good route runner and never had any real speed. He'll be 30 before the season is over. He's thrown temper tantrums on the field and sidelines. He pouts if he doesn't get targeted a bunch to start the game. There's more than enough there for teams to wait until a player is injured in camp before thinking about Bryant.

As far as Bryant having no idea he would get cut - you got to be kidding that he didn't honestly think there was a chance that it would happen. If he swears he didn't then he is lying to himself because there been so much in the media the past couple of months for him not to think there was a chance of it.

I am a big Dez fan, and think it was a mistake to cut him. I own a Dez Bryant jersey. I think the issues are 1) Dak needs to improve dramatically, and 2) the passing scheme run by the Cowboys is not as creative as it needs to be.

Having said that, it's time to move on. This is my final post concerning Dez on this board, or at least until he returns to be inducted in the Ring of Honor after he retires. I don't see the point in belaboring the issue. Hopefully, after today (Sunday), the Dez threads will dry up on this Board - or at least get moved into the NFL zone instead of the Cowboys zone, or maybe the Drama zone.

He's no longer a Cowboy. Whatever your point of view, I suggest getting it out of your system, and letting the discussions end after today. There are less than two weeks before the draft, and a hundred other things to talk about.

Please. I'm begging you. Let's move on.
Burn the jersey and make the statement official

Perkins was the NFL rookie of the year.

3 time All Pro
6 time Pro Bowl

He was the Cowboys all time leading rusher when he was added to the ring of honor.

Merideth was a 3 time Pro Bowler and 1 time second team All Pro.

Merideth was loved in Dallas and went on to a successful announcing career which may or may not have contributed to him going in.

Meredith also played in the best game the Cowboys have ever played in even though they lost
