Can we talk about the match-ups?
Quite frankly, Dallas is a good team and depending on who makes the most mistakes, who protects their QB better, and whose DL shows up and grinds it out best, will determine the momentum.
OK, lets take a look at the two teams and how the match up
JJ is looking good, but Westbrook matches up and possibly (you think) surpasses him.
You are forgetting something when it comes to the RB's. We are two deep with our second string RB being just as good as our first string RB. Marion Barber is head and shoulders above Buckhalter and Moats.
Yes, Brian Westbrook is very dangerous and he is a dual threat. But, he does have a limitation, you can not consistantly feed him the ball 20+ times a game, he is not big enough for the job. While Westbrook is better than Julius Jones, I would definately take our two deep Jones and Barber over Westbrook and Buckhalter. After Westbrook ya'll are very thin at RB, while our #2 is just as good as our #1 RB. All in all, it is about even.
What can we say about T-Glenn and T-Owens ...both clutch players that should be able to make game-breaking plays if given the opportunity. But Sheldon Brown, Michael Lewis, and possibly Lito Sheppard plan to thwart those opportunities ...did I say anything about the X-man?!
Brown, Lewis, and Sheppard may have plans to thwart those opportunities, but looking at the stats, I would say those oppurtunities will probally be quite unsuccessful. Despite facing the superior passings attachs of Houston, San Francisco, Green Bay and New York Giants (they do have a pertty good passing attack) your pass D is still ranked 28th in the league in yards allowed per game. And is 22nd in the league allowing 61% completion percentage. This is after finishing 21st in yards per game last year and 16th in completion percentage last year. I am not seeing where your secondary has shown that it can put its will against the opponent.
Bledsoe has some real good skills and given the time, he probably would hit his targets all day from the pocket. Out of the pocket and scrambling, he's going to be like a fish out of water for Howard, Cole and several different faces of Eagle blitz'. I'd actually be more concerned about Romo in the backfield, but even he lacks the experience needed at his current level of play.
Go ahead and blitz, and leave that very fearsom secondary man up on Terry Glenn, Terrell Owens, and Jason Witten. Not to mention the playmaking ability of Julius Jones out of the backfield. If you try and cover Terry Glenn AND Terrell Owens in man to man coverage all day with a heavy blitz package it will be a long day for the Philly D.
Huge question is ...can you OL hold up against our DL. Many here like to revisit the teams that the Eagles have defeated, calling them cake walks and easy games against easy teams. But if you recall the 49ers game when the 49ers moved the ball up to the red-zone and were stopped by a very stubborn Eagles DL on a goal line stand, the Eagles made a major statement.
Can our OL hold up against your DL. Well lets see here. The fearsom Philly run D is allowing 94.5 yards per game ranked 16th in the league. As well as 3.7 yards per carry 15th in the league. This is despite facing teams with such feared running games as Green Bay, Houston, and San Francisco. Our OL on the other hand has given up 3 sacks all season, as well are we are averaging 147 yards per game rushing (5th in the league) and are averaging 4.7 yards per game (tied for 4th in the league). Despite 2 of the teams that we have played (Washington and Jacksonville are both ranked in the TOP 10 in the league in yards per game and yards per attempt. Your DL is ranked 2nd in the league with 16 sacks, but you have only recorded 3 sacks since Kearse was injured.
The real question should be can your OL hold up against our DL. Ya'll have given up 9 sacks, tied for 18th most in the league despite facing D's that are dead last in sacks per game (Giants), and 12th in the league in Sacks per game (Houston). Although so far the 49ers and Packers have done a pertty good job of rushing the passer.
That said, I'm only telling you that you are not facing the 2005 Philadelphia Eagles ...we'll compete at the highest level. Will the Cowboys be able to elevate their game accordingly?
No, we are not facing the 2005 Eagles. But, the 2006 Eagles are not as dangerous as you are making them sound. Right now the Eagles are 3rd in the league for scoring offense (averaging 29.2 points per game) but ALL 4 opponents are in the BOTTOM 6 teams in the league and are averaging giving up (29.8 points per game). Also the Eagles D is 14th in the league at 18.2 points per game but only the Giants at 27.0 points per game are in the top half of the league in points per game. While both Green Bay and Houston are in the bottom third of the league in points per game.
As for the Cowboys, we are second in the league at 29.7 points per game, and tied for 7th giving up 16.0 points per game. Despite two of the teams that we faced (Jaguars and Commanders) both being in the top half of the league in points per game.
