Dont be surprised if it's Weeden

I'm actually curious about Smith. He won 8 games his rookie season with a bad team and threw a perfect game in his last regular season action.

If we didn't have a promising young QB like Dak to develop I wouldn't mind taking a look at Smith. Right now we need a QB who can step in if Dak were to go down and Weeden would be the best option because he knows our system.

I think our system is being amended to fit Dak's strengths which would also be good for Geno.

Anybody but dak starts I'm not watching Dallas this season. Unless it's romo when he comes back.

As scary as the prospect sounds, I'm starting to think that he becomes the eventual signee.

He fits the criteria of a quarterback with playing experience.

And he also has many of the same qualities that Prescott has.

Those two things have been mentioned as key factors in who this team signs to be the 2nd/3rd whatever quarterback.

We've seen first hand Dak's strengths and Geno has been too mistake prone over his career. He has 15 more turnovers the TDs. Weeden only had two turnovers in his three starts for us last season. With the running game we're likely to have this year we can play it safe with Weeden like we were doing last season. Just have him be efficient but don't turn the ball over. Our D could be pretty bad this season and we can't afford turnovers. Geno has committed too many of them which is one big reason his career hasn't worked out, plus he's not a very accurate passer completing only 58% for his career.

Sanchez keeps bouncing around the league because of turnovers.

Valid reasoning, but it's easy to not throw picks when you dink and dunk. Weeden was 2 TD and 2 INTs when he started for us. Weeden is 58% for his career as well.

A lot of that dinking and dunking appeared to be by design to keep him from throwing into coverage which is been an issue throughout his career. One of his two TD's he tossed help seal the win vs Philly and the other came on a last ditch drive against New Orleans in the final seconds that got us to OT. Had our D stepped up he would have won a couple of games.
Look, it wouldn't shock me if Geno was brought in, it could be anyone at this point.

Too bad he doesnt know how to QB in our system

Can Garrett be a player head coach?
He was the only one to hit the star at the end of training camp for that little competition...he probably needs as much protection as Tony will need when he gets back.ha

And the Gallagher brothers are getting back together.

I don't think the Cowboys want him and it's mutual. He kinda pulled one of those "well, since you're firing me, let me tell you what I really think about you".

I'd rather slide down a razor blade into a pool of rubbing alcohol.

It would seem weird to bring back Weeden the way it ended, but you never know. Regardless of whose fault it was, Weeden didn't really work here. His best moment was the last second drive at the end of the Saints game, when Garrett couldn't reign him in. Other than that it was mostly uninspiring.

Of course, Dak will likely struggle to put up the numbers that even Weeden managed here... but with a healthy Dez and more time to prepare, hopefully it won't matter as much.

The way it ended Weeden probably wouldn't want to come back to Dallas but he may not have many if any options if he's released by the Texans.

In all fairness, if Weeden is cut, that might not be a bad option, he knows our system. He has been in camp, so he should be in football shape, and afterall he would merely be a backup.

I still dont understand why we didnt sign Davis, and Jerrod Johnson I'm sure doesnt fit into the plans beyond tonight, so unless Showers proves without a doubt he is servicable, I feel a backup will be needed.

Not a chance.

He left on bad terms with Jerry, Garrett, and Linehan, and the players saw first hand his lack of poise and courage.

Not saying it hasn't happened but can't recall a QB who played in regular season games for the Cowboys and was released ever being re-signed again.
