Don't dismiss Deuce Vaughn for 2025 so easily

You keep looking at 40s only. They don't play on a track. Try watching them play.
I have and Deuce comes up short there too (no pun intended). He doesn't look like an NFL player. That's why he hasn't been given much of a role with a team that has been starved for talent at RB that brought in a lot of guys last year trying to find one and has brought in an entirely new group of RBs again this year. He just isn't likely to make the team and he just doesn't look like he belongs on an NFL field. He is at best a PS player. Plenty of guys looked good on a College field. This team wants a RB and will play whomever is best. He like everyone else will again be given a chance. He again won't win that competition.

With a new set of coaches (including his old college O-line coach), plus an expected younger and better offensive line, this should help RB Deuce Vaughn better use his skillset to prove he deserves to be on the Dallas Cowboys team (whether the 53 player roster or practice squad)...or make it harder to cut him.

The least Deuce deserves if he fails to make the 53 player roster is to be brought back on to the Practice Squad and be one of the 4 players protected from being stolen. He is young, has a very good skillset and should be kept in case one of the running backs who makes the 53 player roster actually gets injured.

What say you?

I'm with you, I don't think he's gotten true opportunities to showcase what he can do fully. However, he's always shown a little in the preseason that makes you think he just needs opportunities. I don't think the prior staff really knew how to use him and truthfully he should have gotten Zeke's workload last year and been the change of pace guy to Dowdle with designed counters, sweeps, and screens. Instead we really don't fully know what we have in him. I'm excited about the RB competition this year, you know Blue will be on the roster and probably atleast 1 of Williams or Sanders that leaves 1 or 2 spots for Williams/Sanders, Vaughn, Mafah, and Luepke.

The challenge for Vaughn is if you insert him for gadget/space type plays can Blue or Turpin do it better? Meanwhile you have guys like Williams, Sanders, and Mafah that are more of your traditional runners and is that more valued for a staff that wants to pound the rock?

I think Turpin makes him expendable. If he isn't our full time returner then I don't see us having the room to keep him. Sure he is shifty and can make nice plays, but I think his size makes him a liability for the QB when he needs to block. That means he could only be in a small amount of plays and would key off the defense when he was in as well. However, Deuce has been proving people wrong his whole career and be more than fine eating these words.
I would think Blue would - but hey may the best man win - i'd be stoked for him, doesn't seem like a jerk or anything so his overcelebrating runs is annoying. Feed me vibes.

He is an after thought until he proves he can be a legit NFL player. At this point I'm not convinced he should even be on the practice squad.

100% agreed. It’s a good problem to have, especially with so many of a variety of running backs suddenly on this team. Training Camp and Preseason are definitely going to be interesting to watch. Pretty sure Coach Schottenheimer and his new coaching staff are going to turn every rock to see which players are best worth keeping this season. All one asks is for a fair shot for Deuce.

Deuce was released the moment they turned the card in for Jaydon Blue.
And yet he was not the RB they released. He was very productive in the running scheme we are moving to. He was kept around for 2 years in a scheme that didn’t really leverage his skills — why release him now?

I think it’s the hope that he is RB #2 who spells Blue and lets the offense call the same plays.

I say, no go! Of all the backs the Cowboys carried last season, Deuce just wasn't that physical, and he went down way too easy after 1st contact. A little dude like this should be able to bounce off tacklers like he was a pinball machine and gain much needed yardage, but he's not that type of back that the Cowboys disparately needed then and NOW

It would be nice if everyone was given equal opportunity in that rb room. I'm not saying it won't be but let everyone compete. The thing about Deuce, and i like Deuce, is you would think he would get alot of reps with his Dad and all....

At best he’s a practice squad player, he’s just too much of a liability in pass protection to get on the field!
Don’t see much point in protecting him!
Blue being the same change of pace, scat back makes him redundant!

I’m dismissing him.
It’s a numbers thing. He doesn’t play ST so can’t have 3 RB active and none play ST. But blue can do the same things he does. He’s quick guy but so is blue and blue is a really good route runner in the passing game. Blue also gets more runs after contact

The Cowboys drafting two RBs indicates they aren’t counting on Deuce. The fact that the only special teams he plays is as a returner really hurts him. It’s a big reason he’s been made inactive most weeks.

Can you add several more "!!!" after each sentence, because I can't hear you...
:lmao::laugh: :muttley:

It's really simple. Give him a chance or cut him. All McCarthy did is waste 2 years.
yes and they can do that is PS games, give him a whole half or game, and then
see how he does and let that decide cut or keep.
The problem is they have him, and 4 new rb's to look at in the 3 games!

I think they keep the 2 they just drafted but may still want to look at them, the the 2 FA guys
They need to play some too.

I think deuce has potential, is used the right way, but his size does work against him.

When was that? Specifically which game did McCarthy design a couple of plays and put Deuce in to run them?
He went down way too easy when he was in there. Too small to block anybody. Averaged a very pedestrian ypc.

He’s not an nfl player.
