I think Garrett is the next head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. I think he was promised this when he was hired as the offensive coordinator.

This is exactly what I think. He gets a few years under his belt coaching then will easily transition into the spot left when Wade leaves.

Its up to Garrett. He can turn down any offer to even interview. We have to remember he has only been a coach for 3 years. I don't really think he will get alot of offers this year, maybe next but he doesn't have enough experience yet. I think this is where he wants to be. He played here, he loves Dallas, and they are a good team with a great QB. I think he will wait for the head coach job in Dallas. In the meantime JJ will increase his pay to almost head coach level to make Garrett's decision to stay easy.

You guys just don't understand it... there's nothing he can do...

Of course there's something he can do. He can't block Garrett from taking another job, but he can make it worth his while to stick around until Wade retires.

This is what I think too. I refuse to accept any other ideas or suggestions. ;)

Exactly.

Why would he want to leave to go down to the local greasy spoon for a day-old pork chop when he could wait and have filet mignon.

It's a no-brainer, folks.

one of the best rushing attacks? if Romo went down and we had to try to win on the ground we may be in trouble.

Ugh, we have the 5th ranked rushing attack in the NFL coming into this week, and it's going nowhere but up after just ripping off 170+ yards this game. Might want to look around the NFL a lil'bit.

Garrett has been great for us, but if a HC job is offered, I'm sure he will take several factors into the consideration before accepting the offer.

I think he knows that chaces are, he won't have successes without having players like Romo, Witten, TO, Crayton, MBIII and a great offensive line like right now or this year. Does he want to take a job that has to be rebuilt (most likely) or continue to enjoy the success with current crop of players to refine his skills so that when he becomes a HC, he'll have more experiences to draw from and possibly have a SB ring on his finger, which will speak volumes of his football knowledge and success.

When you take a promotion, you want to have some experience in order to be successful, not take a chance to get fired within a year because you can't get the job done due to inexperieces and knowledge. But then, if he feels he can do the job and really want it, then there is no stopping him.

I'm sure the contract that he signed wasn't a 1-year contract....

and if the giants offer him a HC position, it doesn't really matter what we have on the contract. you can't stop someone from going HC, only other "false" promotions.

You'll like it even less if he winds up in the NFC East. Coughlin is gone and Grandpa Joe might hit the shuffleboard courts.

we run the ball in the 4th qtr pretty well...which is great

but we have struggled basically the remainders of the other games we've played so far to consistently run the ball...with the OL we have, we should never get stoned on 3rd and 1 the way we have, especially against a small, overmatched defensive front like St Louis

thats a big if...like I said all of you basically assume he WANTS to go somewhere else, when in fact he may not (and honestly why would he?)...he can stay here and eventually be HC (might be next yr, might be yr after next) and work for the best owner in the NFL and have one of the really bright stars at QB to coach

and you're basically assuming he *only* wants to coach the cowboys.

that all sounds nice, and don't get me wrong here, i *WANT* jason to stay a long long time.

but $600k a year (or whatever he makes) or $6mil a year+ *if* someone should want to pay him. if his streak continues through the year someone may be willing to risk it on the "youth movement".

no he doesn't have to take it but if he waits - then what?

maybe he doesn't do as well or other factors come into play and we wind up going elsewhere with coaches.

even at $6mil a year, that's $12mil he'd miss out on if he 1) got an offer and 2) passed on it.

but just because you can draw up some fantasy/dream scenario where garrett stays because he's a E-HA cowboy, doesn't always follow through in the real world.

Its pretty obvious what Jerry can do if he wants to keep him. He can offer him top coaching money and a guarantee to be the next HC of the Cowboys. From that point its up to Garrett.

The only other option Jerry would have would be to can Phillips and hire Garrett and with the way things are going that doesnt make too much sense.

Really its up to Garrett and whether or not hes willing to wait to coach the premiere franchise in football or take a job with another team.

Garrett might wait it out this offseason, but do you really think that Wade is gone in only 3 years? We probly have a better shot of Garrett as HC if he leaves, and then comes back. I could see a Herm Edwards-like scenario.

I just don't think Wade is all that ready to retire.

I disagree with the assumption that because Garrett is looking like a pretty good coordinator he will automatically be great head coach. Too many great coordinators turn out to be horrible head coaches, the two positions are very different. All you need to do is look at Norv Turner, being a solid coordinator does not guarantee success as a head coach.

Last year everyone was worked up about Sean Payton and complaining about how Jerry blew that one, Payton can't seem to replicate his success this year.

There are just too many variables to isolate what makes a guy a good head coach, being a great coordinator isn't the only variable.
