You might want to watch that play again where Dak was stripped. He did NOT hold the ball too long. People see and conclude what they want, this includes you.
That's one play. He actually got beat bad twice. But he also did pretty well overall . Dak held the ball too long a few times.

Can anyone be slightly critical of Dak in your world or is he untouchable? He made plays when it counted, mainly with his legs. But he needs to step it up passing when Zeke doesn't open it up for him. You can bet a team like Seattle is going to throw everything at Zeke. That's what keeps me up at night.

I have no idea how reliable those stats are but this is the first year of less than above average play:

This is via PFF.

Per Insiders the Cowboys are running best over him netting 4.89 adjusted YPC. His pass blocking this year is just barely above average. In the first game against the Giants he and Martin gave up 8 pressures.

We've only given up 15 sacks this year. It's hard for me to see Free with 32 or so pressures. That's over 2 per game. A lot of the pressures Zak feels he avoids.

But I concede he's playing more poorly than usual. Perhaps I'll have a look at the All22 and see for myself. Not a promise.

That's cool. Props to you for having the open mind enough to take a second look.

And that's all I'm saying. It looks to me like Father Time is catching up to him. Could we do worse at right tackle? Sure. But hopefully we can do better too.

You may be right. If you hadn't posted I wouldn't have looked as a generally ignore most of the Free rhetoric. He has declined this year in the pass protection although his run blocking his fine.

You need to reread it because he does say Free is a good player which even most of us know. Free has good feet even with the bad wheels so saying without technique he has no chance is erroneous. Every player needs good technique anyway. I don't know what play you're talking about but he and I make a point of saying every player gets beat; even with good technique. Free may be the less talented player on the OL but that doesn't mean he's not a good player.

I have no vested interest in Free although I've defended him for years.......as an above average solid RT. I've made no bones that he can be replaced but over the years no one has come along to displace him. What it takes on the part of fans is to ignore the evidence and follow the group think. And the strongest evidence is the guy still has a job. It requires a willing suspension of belief that the staff knows what is the best product to put on the field.

How arrogant it is for a fan to insist despite the evidence they know more than the staff.

I think Free is nearing the end of his starting on this OL although for me that means in the next 1-3 years. Don't be surprised to see the guy starting next year although that's not a prediction.
Bill Calahan wanted to bench Free. He knows more about OLine play than you, the blogger and Garrett combined.

It's not llike when the X factor is removed, we are left with an Eric Williams...

I wish!

If we had a guy like Big E in his nasty prime, they'd just hand us the trophy. Out of fear!

It was the beginning of the tension between Garrett that eventually resulted in Callahan making a lateral move to the Skins.

You answer neither.

I have always stated he's not as bad as most state but that he is imminently replaceable as being somewhere between above average and good. But no one has yet displaced him although I remember Parnell and Free both playing RT at one point interchangeably. Parnell moved on and Free stayed. I remember Callahan stating Parnell could play in this league and I remember you and I being moderately vocal about both players being good enough to play RT for us.

I do not remember Callahan benching or wanting to bench Free for Parnell excepting when Free was injured too much to play.

You're clouding the issue which is Free has played well enough to start for the Cowboys since, without looking it up, 2009. If they can build this OL then I'm going to assume they know what they're doing. That defeats any talk about playing Free as the starter at RT.
