There is no real point to this other than I came across some old news from Jan. 2014 and thought some might find it interesting that Free had an ankle problem last year.

Cowboys RT Doug Free underwent a "cleanout" ankle procedure following the season.

He's expected to be 100 percent before the offseason program. Free bounced back in a major way from an awful 2012 this season, nearly cutting his penalties in half (15-8) and improving tremendously as a pass blocker. Owed $3.5 million in 2014, Free is very likely to return as Dallas' starting right tackle.

Lol u really do the most to boost parnell ill give you that. I hope you know that CLEANOUT is a medical term that means cleaning out tissue damage and bone spurs area of the body. more then half the athletes in sports get some kind of cleanout in their offseason.

Meh, ankles are over-rated. On TC, a caller mentioned Walt Garrison playing RB with a broken ankle. Mickey and Broaddus confirmed it. Suck it up Free!

Just kidding, of course, but I did think of that while running this weekend.

And ill add that its a anthroscopy which means its a very small surgical procedure. Xwalker just has to get it in his head that Parnell will never start over Free

True, but a cleanout isnt a something that needs its own thread. Free sprained his ankle bad. Thats why he's out. Free has had bone spurs since last yr. Anybody that has had bone spurs and actually played football knows you tape it up tight and you can play. Youre in pain after when the tape is taken off but it goes away. Thats just something you live with.

Doug Free's contract next year is 8 million with just under 4 guaranteed.

No, 2015 and 2016 are fake (automatically void) years on his contract that were there for cap purposes. There is no guaranteed money remaining to be paid to Free. There will be dead-money if he is not re-signed but that money will also hit the cap if he is re-signed because it is from bonus money that he has already received.

I wasn't addressing you past the short first sentence. You're likely right. He sprained his ankle. We don't know what they found at arthroscopy. He might have some cartilage damage or problems from a previous injury. Until the last decade or so we didn't do ankles and feet well. Now they have specialists in that area. Important joint.

I thought recent reports were that bone spurs were being reported as the current problem with his ankle.

I don't feel good knowing they won't have a healthy Doug Free out there. Say what you will, but the running game hasn't looked the same without him, and teams didn't just start trying to stop the run in December. It's crazy how little of an issue this seems to be to folks.

Ankle sprains depending on how severe and where it is can linger for a long time. You are right, bone spurs hurt like heck. Sometimes wrapping up just doesn't work. I have had them but I didn't have the medical stuff to go to like these NFL players have.

Melton & Free having issues (Melton's ending his season) would hopefully drive the price down on both if the Cowboys had any interest in resigning them.

I think they let Free walk this year and resign the younger Parnell and draft a guy that will compete for the starting job next year. I like Free but I think Dallas s moving toward avoiding signing 30+ players. I don't see both players coming back.
