He did very well...in fact I kind of wish it was the other tackle who had to take a few weeks off instead of Columbo.

I watched the 30 minute version on NFL Ticket's rewind... and I made an effort to try to watch Free on every snap... Dude looked really good in the running game. I'm no film expert, but he only made 2 big mistakes from what I saw. Missed a blitzing DB that forced an incompletion on 3rd down from Romo.. and whiffed on Andre Carter on a 3rd and short that made us not convert there as well.

Besides that, I was really pleased.

I honestly thought he was gonna be a liability, but he looks really athletic and surprisingly pretty strong.

Here's the humiliating play where free gets turned around if anyone is interested.

He actually doesn't get turned around. He got beat to the inside initially but was quick enough to recover and was moving to the spot ahead to still prevent the guy from getting to Romo but Barber picked the end up. At the same moment he realized that there was a twist, so he tried to recover on that play as well. It's a play that looked awkward and not too good on his part but not necessarily as bad as it seemed.

Here's all passing situations and you can judge Free for yourself.

HD will get processed soon enough

I am no Oline expert but I thought that looked like a very good job.

Romo has to step up a lot though and that is more of a FA problem than it is Free I think.

Definitely looks like his play improved as the game went on. He got some help on a number of guys, but I'm also seeing a lot of situations there where he was the sole blocker.

Got beaten to the outside some but recovered and held his guy back long enough for Romo to get it away. Towards the end it seems like he had a better feel for it and he didn't get moved at all on a number of plays.

I find it rather humorous that Orackpo couldn't take advantage of a backup Tackle and nothing is said. If our guys don't, they have no talent.

okay lets look at it in this sense, if Orakpo gets Romo, he saves the game, he does well. How many of those games have we gotten out of Spencer. Butler YES, Spencer no.

Thats one way to look at it. Yes he might not have done well against our back up tackle, I can name you numerous games our boys werent so hot against a few either.

Spencer have a game saving/sealing play? That'll never happen!

Bowen made that tip. If that tip never happens, most people had the Skins going down for the FG. Our defense was hot, but it would have been a nail biter. Spencer cant help a ball feel in his lap. Im not saying the guy is bad, but if you are looking for a pass rusher or a sack master, Spencer so far as yet to do that. Hes a good player, gotten much better, but i want the QB on the ground at some point from him.

You do realize he has to walk around that locker room and here about Carpenters sack. thats gotta grate on your nerves at some point.

Spencer leads the team in tackles for losses.

he can hang his hat on that, people want sacks. Its not the end all, but a little bit of bringing down the qb could help the team some more.

Free did well.

He looks tall and skinny out there. He is 25yo too. He is pretty quick on speed rushers and pulling.

He will get a little bigger by next year, maybe 10 or 15 pounds and some extra strength, he will be dominant.

He is a very smart observant player. So many ways an inexperienced player could have hurt in a close game with a final winning drive, but he kept it together and did great.

I miss Colombo too though. I thought Free was a little smaller than colombo, but also a little faster on edge rushing. Colombo is definitely physically stronger though.

Doug Free is very, very skinny.

6-6/313 is not going to get it done in the NFL.

This O really misses that behemoth, mauling, road grader Marc Colombo.....

Who goes 6-8/318........

:lmao: :lmao2:

Just depends on the person I guess. You can have two 6'7" 320lb people have entirely different 'looking' builds.

I said 'looks'

Who knows what the real stats on these guys is anyway

The 4.53 short shuttle has got to be a pretty good time for a guy 6'6" and 324 lbs. The 22 reps isn't particularly great for an OL so there is probably some truth to the notion that he needs to get a bit stronger.

I think the video footage shown shows how good his recovery is when he initially gets beat. I do think he should get better with more experience against NFL players. He came from a smaller college and has sat on the bench for his first 2.5 years.

I do think he is probably better than Columbo is right now in both running and passing game. I think we may be able to see if we have our future Flo replacement here if he continues to mature down the stretch and shows growth as a player.
