Good points.....

However...we do know for a fact what he weighed at the combine.

Combine Invite: Yes
Height: 6062
Weight: 324
40 Yrd Dash: 5.19
20 Yrd Dash: 2.96
10 Yrd Dash: 1.78 225 Lb. Bench Reps: 22
Vertical Jump: 30
Broad Jump: 09'03"
20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.53
3-Cone Drill: 7.38

Dates: 03/21/07 03/07/07
Height: 6062
Weight: 324
40 Yrd Dash: 5.21
20 Yrd Dash: 2.98
10 Yrd Dash: 1.76 225 Lb. Bench Reps:
Vertical Jump:
Broad Jump:
20 Yrd Shuttle: 4.53
3-Cone Drill: 7.47

Height - 6062, Weight - 324

1st one is Combine the 2nd one was from his Pro Day.

Those are remarkably consistent numbers. You typically see some fluctuation from one workout to the next, even in heights and weights, let alone the timed drills. That doesn't necessarily mean anything; it's just interesting.

Hes up there in QB hits and pressures too.

Apostrophy omitted...so, does Anthony Spencer, since full name is used in initiating post, then adequately replace the returning Greg Ellis, with the Oakland Raiders? Does Anthony adequately replace the actual altering of the passing game and show up in crunch time as much as Greg did? Enlighten...?

Since you might have knowledge of this feature....does the opening at the stadium's ends create noteworthy wind gusts onto the field at the new stadium? Also, what is the storyline on glare problems on the field?

Free did well.

He looks tall and skinny out there. He is 25yo too. He is pretty quick on speed rushers and pulling.

He will get a little bigger by next year, maybe 10 or 15 pounds and some extra strength, he will be dominant.

He is a very smart observant player. So many ways an inexperienced player could have hurt in a close game with a final winning drive, but he kept it together and did great.

I miss Colombo too though. I thought Free was a little smaller than colombo, but also a little faster on edge rushing. Colombo is definitely physically stronger though.

What makes you think that he will get any bigger/stronger when he has been in an NFL strength training program for two years without accomplishing this?

If the Cowboys continue going forward with a man blocking scheme, I don't think that Free is a great fit. I think his mobility combined with his lack of strength at the POA makes him a better fit for a team that uses a zone blocking scheme.

I didn't get to see the game but, I was wondering how did Doug Free do in his first start?

He was one the very few bright spots from the game IMO. It's not quite 2 full games now as a fulltime player but he has looked pretty solid. He isnt as physicial as Colombo is, but he is far more athletic and appears to be at least as good, if not better than Colombo in pass protection.

For those on the Mike Shanahan watch, this guy looks like the proto-type Shanahan OL.

This is an interesting comment. I guess I didn't think of Free at 320 lbs as a prototypical Shanahan OL. I'm too lazy to go look but 320 seems pretty large to me.

I dont think he cares about the size of the OL, he wants guys that can move. And Free can move. He might be close to 320, but he isnt a bulky guy at all.

Free has had 3 years of NFL weight training- he is not going to put on any more weight or get any stronger now. He is at his peak physically-if not then our weight training coach needs his butt kicked. And since it seems to be an article of faith that we have a very good weight training coach, it seems safe to say that what you see from Free physically is what you get. He does seem to be better in pass blocking as he is quicker then colombo. However Colombo can really pancake guys run blocking so free is not so good there, though he can do more as regarding movement. What we miss with Colombo out is his nasty attitude, which is hard to quantify. I do not see Free as a LT-except as a temp replacement for a couple of games at best.

The light must have gone on finally at training camp this year for him-which was lucky for us since all our other tackle prospects have pretty much washed out. I think we HAVE to go HIGH for a tackle this year since all our efforts to go low and develope one has only had one success story and about 5 failures. Not to mention that we do not have 3 years to develope the Hotels replacement. Bad thing is that we will draft no better then 20 this year and all the really top LTs will be taken. Hate to say it but we might seriously have to look at going for LT at least twice this year.

Hey, that the Cowboys have in recent memory not had a first round and successful tackle shouldn't be that big a stumbling block, considering the strength of the more recent Dallas drafts....could it?

I hate to use this expression but he's getting close to being a special player. It always seems when a guy is close though he always stays on the brink but Spencer's sack numbers dont reflect how much of an impact he's made this year.
