You do you Reid, good story. Mine is almost the exact same except switch Cal to Texas(Houston area) for me. I too was six in 1976 and for Christmas, my dad got me a deck of DCC playing cards after I watched my first full game. Roger, the Star and those cheerleaders hooked me for life. I have became more jaded in the last 15 years or so, wish I still had your same enthusiasm but it is mostly still there.

At the end of the day...the Jerry Jones that bet it all on black was a man who was desperate and scared. A man who had to make it work (like his father told him), by hook or crook...or else. That man bears little resemblance to the Jerry Jones of today. A man who does what he wants...not what he has to. The urgency of the pre-dynasty years is but a distant memory...like a star plucked permanently from the heavens. That he has made himself so well off the halcyon days is not really a surprise. But its compounding costs to the fan-base can't be measured in dollars.

I didn't think they'd keep 4 backs. I don't think you need that many. But we'll see what they do with them.

I think Burrow and Allen are better QB's than Mahomes and Hurts myself if things were based just on arm talent, but in a big game, I'll take the guys that make the right decisions and get to/win in the big games

I certainly understand some teams are stronger with depth at certain positions and there may be a few guys that can improve depth, but viewing it as a 2nd draft just seems crazy.

Fans are just desperate for any shred of hope and good news here.
Reality is gonna be a bitter pill.

After watching the Netflix series and discovering his college ambition to owning/managing/marketing a professional football franchise as his thesis, I feel validated and certain about past opinions that I had about JJ.

The “around the rim” circle analogy is a good fit for how JJ prioritizes a successful franchise. The number one priority of building the successful franchise is getting people that follow a team to follow it year round. The creation of a “soap opera” he refers to is based on this philosophy.

The long standing beef with Jones and Johnson still smolders and smarts (mostly Jones) because Jones still wants more recognition for the 90’s dynasty. He put in all that money and effort and fans/media don’t care about brand partnering and money making schemes above on the field success. Once he figured out that was the main attention draw he became obsessed with gaining more credit for on field success-Jimmy resisted (as he should).

At this point, Jerry fully understands the massive difference between his understanding of building a financially successful franchise and Jimmy’s understanding of building a fully successful on field team. Jerry understands he will never be able to bridge that gap, but enjoys the media attention too much to basically just sit in an owner’s box.

Lots of choices come from this central philosophy. From whom to pay and who to build the team around. When to pay the core players in the team building. How the media can be used. How stories can be manufactured…When does a team move on from a core player…

Remember a circle may not have a beginning, but it also has no end.

Yep, following this team has turned into the movie Ground Hog Day.

Yeah. Not all stick around in your memory. Unless you really like them. Even then, you remember the player more than the name.

That's my point. They never should have done that. Hindsight of course. When you sell out to stop the run, advantage QB. He's not throwing into coverage. What KC should have done was play the pass. Make Hurts throw into coverage and try to stop Barkley with the standard D. That may not have worked either. Maybe Barkley would have gashed them. But Hurts is very good when you give him favorable passing situations. Not so good throwing into coverage.

I just have to give a Beavis and Butt-Head laugh because you wrote But Hurts.

People can gloat and brag about his release but the guy was damn good in college. He deserve to be looked at in late rounds like he was. He was never the savior but the plan was to see what he could do in open space when given the chance. He was limited in size and his lack of special teams play. He had no spot. The only way he can make a team is if he plays special teams and we have a returner. His size has never stopped him before so I won’t bet against him. Hope wherever he goes he kills it.

Honestly, he'd have been better off as an UDFA.

I still think he can run, just not going to block like he needs to.
