Jerry seems to believe that all those pairs of eyeballs are due to admiration when I would venture to guess that most are from ridicule and happiness that he hasn’t even been to a NFCCG for three decades.

Much less a SB.

They asked Mazi to lose weight to help with his quickness...I wont say that it necessarily worked, but they asked him to do that for a reason. Plus Jerry is the one setting the roster so Mazi was pretty much guaranteed a spot regardless of what Eberflus wants.

I'm expecting a ton of shooting the gap to get upfield and mixing in some slants along the DL on run downs. Eberflus refers back to Marinelli quite a bit. I'm hoping he mixes in a little Rob Ryan into this defense, but the Marinelli style seems to be closer to what he's emulated in Indy and Chicago.
I hated the Marinelli defensive scheme. I hope Eberflus is not going back to it.

Well maybe that's great for practice.
You're right we're stacked at certain positions I mean look at if even if he was listed as a linebacker or safety we have plenty of those as well.... I guess they are having PTSD because look at last year look at how many players we lost from the offseason all the way to the end of the year literally the injuries were just historic.... And most of them were on defense..

Let’s all hope, but just remember, the guys like Childress, Hall, Houston, and Winfrey all played a lot in preseason because the guys ahead of them were not playing, and they all looked good against 2nd and 3rd teamers and guys who are now on the street. Like Childress, the minute there’s a guy available with more upside, they are gone. I’m hoping Winfrey can produce against first team OLs.
I heard this a lot in the PS. "They're playing against their2, 3, 4, and not-gonna-make-the teamers.".

Well...they are OUR "They're playing against their2, 3, 4, and not-gonna-make-the teamers." TOO! If you can hold your own or maybe look better....cool. Just don't get hammered.

We all remember Marinelli used to say play the run on the way to the QB. This defense is designed to get quick up the field pressure to cause havoc in the backfield. He wants quick twitched up defensive lineman that fire off the ball and hit the gaps as quickly as possible.

The run defense isn't going to be about winning the point of attack nor holding up blockers, but speed/quickness beating blockers to a spot. He wants his entire unit to play fast. Yes, this type of defense has vulnerabilities against the run and puts an onus on high level execution, but it can work. However, the margin of error is extremely small.

I am expecting a heavy dose of early down run blitzes to try to get offenses into long down and distances. This would force teams to play into the defense's strengths.
Ya I've accepted this as the plan but beef has a Tyson quote"they all have a plan till I hit em

Cherrypicking records don't move me. Parsons is the same player now as he was in 2021. Other guys evolve which is why they win dpoy. Micah will never win the award

Cherry picking? That's a huge accomplishment. Oh let me guess.... 12+ sacks four years straight is meaningless, huh...

So are you saying every DPOY won this award in their first 4 seasons of their careers? Because if they haven't then bringing up how Micah haven't won it yet is useless.

So have every DPOY winner accomplished this in the first 4 seasons?

This kind of defense is easy to attack with misdirection and fakes… they run themselves out of plays and leave big openings. Seen this before.

Oh boy, here we go again

Bad character, lol? I don’t remember Micah getting suspended, I don’t care if Jerry likes Micah’s agent or not, I don’t remember Micah pulling up a girls shirt at a public parade, I don’t remember Micah being kicked out of a club in Vegas for trying to attack a DJ, I don’t remember Micah cold cocking a DJ in Dallas, I don’t remember Micah taking himself out of games, I don’t remember Micah flying to another country and not even being around his teammates during pre season games and practices.

I agree faking an injury is bad character but to use that as a comparison of Micah against zeke is laughable. I’d still take Micah.

As far as Micah’s agent, who cares if Jerry doesn’t like him? If sounds like Jerry has a history of trying to negotiate with players and not their agents and ten agents rightfully got pissed off, it was slimy move on jerry’s part of trying to take advantage of the player and the agent and now the agent and micah ate playing hardball with jerry. You reap what you .sow
It's bad character to lie about an injury then it shows on an MRI that it's clean and then you're looking for someone to lie about an MRI ,,so you can find a dirty one, so then you can skip your responsibilities to come play and the way he looked on the table during the game, the puting on the practice field,

I mean dude I'm not going to argue with you, i'm telling you right now it's becoming that, I didn't say he had bad character up until this point but this is starting to lean towards bad character.

You can try to convince me otherwise, but it isn't going to happen.. you obviously don't know me.

I already stated what I said, and I meant it... Never said he was a problem off the field although if you want to go there we can go there from draft aid the things he did as the BMOC in college, you want to go revisit that ??? that didn't look like bad character did it I mean it was immaturity, but there was a lot of rumors of what was going on in the locker room and making people feel uncomfortable....

I didn't mention any of that, I just meant the things that's happened over the last 48 hours, His agent is creating this, and it's going to look like bad character to me if he fakes the injury to this point and start skipping games so he can get paid but he doesn't have to show up he's letting his teammates down he's letting the fans down, and is not going to help his career going forward,

i'm saying it's developing into a bad character situation...

Horrible, horrible plan. The other teams will run right at them. It immediately negates a defenses speed. All that's left is an undersized, overwhelmed defense. I know this. You know this. I wonder if the 31 other offensive coordinators around the league know this ? Hmmm
He's describing which by the way he's assuming things this is educated guess looking at what's been going on with the player acquisitions but right now we don't know what Matt's doing he's not going to forecast that to the rest of the league..

Will not be the first one to do this and by the way Dan Quinn runs a very similar offense It's all about pressure and trying to force turnovers and he wasn't very good at trying to figure out how to keep gap integrity and stop the run..

I'm hoping that it's an improvement over Dan Quinn's defenses but that was just described above and all the people talking about it that's what Dan Quinn does He the only thing different is he's not going to use a bunch of hybrids for linebackers he's using real linebackers with speed he's not using safeties in corners as linebackers and I think that will help he knows the value of linebacking And there is where maybe it might be a slightly better version of Dan's defense..

You know the defense that somehow stays ranked high but lacks run integrity but also Dan just took that same defense all the way to the championship game but then what guess what looked just like the Green Bay loss in the playoffs for the Cowboys washington got a dose of Dan Quinn's defense the good and the bad...

I’ve always said Jethro shouldn’t be blamed for the firing of Landry. That was on Bum Bright. He’s the one who had a hard on for Tom since part of his purchase agreement didn’t allow him to fire him.

And the fact the Cowboys were sold to Jethro is all on Bum and his Savings and Loan bankruptcy. There were better offers from Mavericks and Lakers owners but would have taken longer as they would have had to sell their majority shares in their NBA teams . While Jethro’s bid was lower he had cash in hand with faster and easier buyout. Firing Landry was a caveat.

The attempt to purchase the Chargers wasn’t totally forthcoming as well. Jethro’s father was not only against Hoffa backing him but he himself wouldn’t back him. Jethro had the opportunity for other partners but he wanted to go it alone and why even entertained the offer from Hoffa who wouldn't have been a partner just the loan shark which may or may not have been approved by NFL.

Bottomline is Jethro never wanted a true partner as his intent was always to be a Football Guy and didn’t want anyone like a partner to be able to challenge his authority.

Jimmy did touch on their agreement but even said perhaps he didn't fully understand as he thought he had total football control and credit and Jethro would take care of business side and provide him basically whatever he needed. Jethro of course apparently saw their partnership differently at least when they begin winning championships.

And it wasn’t until Jethro wanted more credit for his football acumen even attempting to take some away from Jimmy that problems persisted. Some think Jimmy should have gone along but that’s just not how he rolls nor did he think was their agreement .

Bottomline is winning was never enough for Jethro. He wanted to be a football guy and face of his franchise. That’s what his intent was with his “ socks to jocks” mantra. And basically his intention or passion since he left Arkansas which he spoke of but not to the extend I’m presenting here. Perhaps Jimmy just never imagined he’d take it to such extremes initially discounting it as enthusiasm instead of a distraction.
I never had a problem with it. Mind you that Coach was my idol, my hero, and the reason I chose this team as a kid. The way he conducted himself, etc. I was in awe.

That said, it was probably time for a change when it was made. That’s how I took it at the time.

I thought the problem was not having a QB, but that it would be solved with Aikman. I had no idea the team was for sale and didn’t think it affected on the field things regardless. I was wrong, and several consecutive very bad drafts caught up to Coach, and the league was changing faster than he could keep up with.

Do you remember Landry and Aikman greeting each other at the Cotton Bowl in January of 1989? For me it was wild that UCLA happened to play in that game that year. Something was happening, I was just a little off as to exactly what.

The only issue this presents for the Cowboys is that more of your younger players will be up for extensions at the same time. "Only so much pie" to go around.
Or much of your youth is actually bottom of the draft fillers because you've mismanaged your cap.... So when they're up for extensions you're just swapping them out for newer JAGs

You're not making a lick of sense or paying attention.

Yes, there was an MRI. Do you know what it means to get an MRI **sooner**? You say, "He (They would be the proper pronoun to use here...for the Cowboys) finally gets an MRI," which is my point exactly. ***FINALLY*** Why didn't they get it shortly after they knew about the issue? Why did they wait? Why are you not asking those questions?

Micah is the only one who knows what his back feels like. If the MRI didn't show anything (which is not definitive that there is no issue), and he does actually feel something wrong, it would make perfect sense for him to seek a second opinion. Millions of people do it for medical issues every year.

The back tightness was referenced when voluntary OTAs were around. It wasn't something that just popped up in the last week or so. Why did the Cowboys not do an MRI way back then...at the start of Summer? If the Cowboys believe it's a stunt (which is perfectly reasonable), why not get the MRI sooner? Why wait? That's something you'd want either way. Either you find an issue and you work to get it fixed, and have more information for any contract negotiations, or there's nothing and you have more leverage in contract negotiations.

Ask logical questions of both parties.
If he had any back problems it was on Him during his offseason, He arrived at at those camps just to show face. It is now time for the season and the cowboys got the mri on him so he can suit up and play. That is it, this second opinion is clearly the agent advising him to do so just to see who can piss harder.

Simply put we dont create a matchup problem in the interior DL position so he is going to throw the kitchen sink at it.... some games it will work some games it wont, the offense is going to have to pick up the slack in games like this coming thursday where we are over matched in the DL trench...

Philosophy of the Joneses towards NT would have to change.
Can we stop this ,you're blaming this all on the Jones family and I don't see it this is Will Mcclay and the coaching Staffs all have to get together and agree on all this,

there's no way Jerry's going to his people going there's no way I'm bringing you a good nose tackle,

by the way waste of the 1st round pick on 1 , Mazi, He's had second round picks on some defensive tackles, that he wanted to be he's brought in Hankin's, you guys act like he's never tried to bring in a nose tackle..

the only thing he hasn't done is spend big money in free agency on 1..

I get it we need one but remember when the safeties and then at one point it was the linebackers, We were never going to get a war daddy pass rusher, all these narratives have been busted ,they they're trying to fix things, but they can't fix them all and occasionally it's just bad luck...

Literally just not hitting on players at that position They almost drafted Nolen and they decided to go offensive line but at least they were thinking again of bringing in a better defensive tackle But they kept it in the trenches one way or the other...3

Look I understand the frustration but again I gotta remind people that they have been trying to spend draft picks and bringing in some other guys and it just hasn't worked out yet how do you know that Toia is not going to turn into what exactly what we need he's a rookie..

So hopefully eventually it will circle around and will find one of those that fits the bill....

Now your response is stop drafting low end ones and maybe you'll finally hit on one but that's not always true either for any positions there's a lot of 1st rounders that turn into busts...

Yes cherrypicking. If I had a stat of pass rushers who had a season of 14 plus sacks within the first 4 years would the kitten be on it? Yes or no?

Edit 14.5 but the point stands regarding cherrypicking stats.

Guys are assuming a lot I know this is a debate but I don't hear Matt coming out and saying this is going to be my defense this is the original poster making a wild assumption by the acquisition of players that doesn't mean that's what they're going to run he is not going to tell the world that he's doing this and he's not going to do it on a regular basis I'm sure he's going to have a lot of schemes and different looks to give the defense....

Just want to point this out this is not Matt starting this post he has never come out and said that's what he's planning on doing so let's keep it real when the responses sound like he just came out and told the world in a press conference that's what he was going to do and now all these wild posts come in replies like it's real..

This is no different than saying Parsons getting traded to A rival or the Packers I mean come on we're just making assumptions here..
