Draft a nosetackle ?

Yes you did. You should really pay more attention.
:laugh2: Touche!

I wonder if he would fit into Rob Ryan's D?

Rob Ryan throws a whole new twist into the nosetackle and D-line discussion. Will he want a true mammouth for a nose tackle ? Will the DE position be used for actual pass rushing instead of just absorbing blockers ? Just something to think about......

Even if he does, I don't know how quickly we can arrange for him to have a good one unless we are going to buy him one.

Any suggestions on draft prospects ? With Ryan as DC , a true NT may worth a mid to late round pick. Powe ( Ole Miss ) is the only NT that I have really watched .

Kenrick Ellis NT Hampton

Phil Taylor NT Baylor

I believe that the Cowboys should try to get Haloti Ngata or try to make a move to get Nick Fairly if they can. But if not, get CAM NEWTON.

Can he play NT? Does he eat space?

I won`t waste a 7th round pick on Cam.

My pet cat is Kenrick Ellis but at 6'5", I'm not sure he fits the prototypical nose tackle position but the good thing about him is that he has the feet to also play end.

Haloti Nagta is 6'4" which is a bit tall for NT as well, but the Ravens are very creative in how they use him. He'll line up at NT, End, at times he doesn't even get in a stance, you see him roaming around like a LB.

Kenrick is nowhere near Nagta coming out of college, I'm just saying he could be a wild card in our D.

Some other possible NT's could be, as you said, Jerrell Powe (6'2" - 330) and Phil Taylor (6'4" - 355), between the two I'd go with Powe. Wasn't impressed by Taylor in his bowl game at all.

Ngata plays end because he's athletic enough to do and Kelly Gregg isn't. Ngata, despite being so tall, would be just as good at NT, but you would see a huge drop off in Gregg. Terrence Cody, the NT of the future, is the same height, but lacks the athleticism to play end

Ngata lines up at end 85% of the time. He rarely plays nose.

Which makes it kinda funny when people say don't move Rat because they think he'll disappear from the defense at end.

No one gets sacks at end in our defense. Ratliff was previously getting unheard of pressure up the middle from the nose.

Get Spears back and replace Igor.

I like Spears and would like for him to return, but if Ratlif moves to DE, then resigning Spears would be a mistake. IMO, we need 2 pass rushers up front and adding a more traditional NT, we know that he won't be a pass rusher.

Under Wade Phillps our DE's have produced

7.5 sacks in 07'
5 sacks in 08'
8 sacks in 09'
3 sacks in 10'

So we have gotten pressure from our DEs and our 2 best seasons were when the DEs were active. When our starting DEs combine for 0 sacks, that;s a problem

Didn`t Phil Taylor have a bad bowl game and was out of gas by halftime ? Just trying to refresh my memory. Stamina problems , is I remember correctly.

24 sacks from both DE's in 64 games. Ware gets 20 in a season by himself. Ellis had about 10 a season.

Rat would not be the same player at DE.

Rat, Price, Spears, Bowen, Lessimore, *Mid round pick

Thats all you need

Maybe gas was his problem, I saw him getting nullified by one lineman and getting very little push for the majority of the game. I was actually hoping to seeing him play too since I hadn't previously. He did chase a couple of plays down from behind, which was somewhat impressive for a guy his size.

Spears (6'4" 311 ) , Hatcher (6'6" 311 ) , Bowen (6'5" 306 ) are all big enough for DE in a 2-gap 34 system. If you recall, Parcells ran a 2gap system when he was here. To get our D really NASTY, we need a major speed upgrade at the two ILB spots. Then you can bring alot of the blitz / dogs and overloads that are popular with the aggressive 34 schemes.
