Draft a RB IN 1?

I think the combo of Rudi Johnson and Chris Perry is a very good one. I would have to rate them better the our depth. Most know about Rudi, but Perry has turned into a much better all around back than I thought he would be coming out of Michigan
Yes I missed that one; forgot about Perry. I would actually rate them as "better # two...not # 3 or overall depth".

If you only go by number two RB's on a team there are a number of teams that are better (or at least more proven) than us but when you get beyond that most teams have a much bigger drop off than the Cowboys at #3.

I don't think RB is even on the radar screen next April. JJ has a high ankle sprain due the the freakish way the tackler landed on him. Didn't we just draft a RB last April (MBIII) to take JJ's place when he gets innjured?

JJ really needs to prove he's durable rest of season out.

If a Stephen Jackson type back is on the clock do you add depth/competition?

Just a thought.

Serious need at FS, need help at T and LB.

An ankle sprain and you wonder if we should go RB in round 1?

After an ankle sprain?

Scary.

The answer would be 'no.'

Yes - Barber in the 4th

and we brought in a street FA - Tyson Thompson who has some speed and potential.

If a Blue chip stud RB is there - its a consideration. Playmakers, gamebreakers - can't have enough of that!

I think most of us agree with that but where I think we will be drafting I doubt any real blue chippers will be available.

DEPTH - JJ has missed nearly 1/2 of his career so far and is far from durable. Would be nice to have two studs back there.

You can get FS starter oin rounds 2 and 3. Tackle help? Not really. If Tucker steps up and Petitti gets better we are all set. Flo comes back also. LB - We already have Burnett on the bench and he'll need to get on field. And Shanle is starting to make a case that he should not be taken off the field.

RB, WR - We need more offensive weapons.

Now that's what I like to Hear!

FS is our biggest need. I like Jason Allen out of UT if he can come back from his hip injury. There are one or two other guys that would be good, Jimmy Williams VT but he'll want to play CB. FS's are usually cheap in FA.
I think Beriault will be our FS.

Watch Laron Landry of LSU. Definitely on my radar. As is Darnell Bing of USC, though he is a natural SS.

OL: we definitely need a young OG if Peterman isn't going to cut it. We probably need another OT also...probably day 1 picks. An ACL tear on a guy as big as FLO can really be a problem. It'll take longer to rehab because of his size, could take a long time to get over it mentally, or he just may never be the same player.
I'll take OL and DL every year and keep the best depth. Game is won and lost at the LOS.

WR: debate is whether we need a speed guy or a possession guy to groom....I think Crayton is our possession guy and I like Santonio Holmes out of OSU as a speed guy. Guy can make big plays.
I don't think we need a NT this draft.
Name to watch is Todd Watkins at BYU. 2nd round steal.

In fact, we have more DL than we can suit up and I have a lot of confidence in all of them from Fergi to Ratliff. I even liked Pepper Johnson a lot in the preseason. I think he's pretty decent, just happened to be the odd man out at a very deep position. We gave Fergi too much money not to play for two or three more years at a high level. I don't think we need any one on the DL.
I agree with you unless mathias Kiwanuka or Haloti Ngata are avaialbel. Then I am greedy.

LB is a big need. We could use a day one LB, probably inside rather than OLB but we definitely need someone, even if James continues to get better. I'm concerned about Dat's injury and whether it will linger. We need better depth there even if it doesn't. Ahmad Brooks is a freak there but his injury and character (and likely top 10 draft status) will probably keep us away. Like AJ Hawk but seems more of an OLB in the NFL.
Bobby Carpenter, AJ Hawk, and Spencer Havner along with Thomas Howard (shout out to 50) are names to watch.

I have our needs ranked:
1) FS
2) OL
3) LB (I put OL over LB only because OL is more important overall to a team than LB)

4) WR
5) K
Can't argue this too much.

So you suggest drafting for depth in the first round?

Best player available - if there is a stud RB available absolutely. Injuries happen and JJ has yet to prove he's an every game, every down back.

Ngata - Yes!!!! HE MAY BE MY #1 Overall pick!
Kiwi - NO, He'd get killed as a 3-4 DE.

Kiwanuka would not get killed any more than Greg Ellis is gettign killed.

It isn't about scheme, it's about personnel. Irrefutable fact.

I was going to ask the same thing.

Unreal.

Go pound sand.

Last year it was real easy to predict we were drafting 3-4 DE's and LB's.

It will not be so crystal clear this draft.

Best player available. If it adds a playmaker and depth to RB so be it. You don't "draft a starter" at a position of need just to draft a starter. You acquire the best talent and over time thats how you build a better team.

See Dallas 1996-2002 as how not to draft and Parcells era as a signature on How to draft and build a team.

Before we figure out what we need we need to first see what we have. Remember we did not know what we had in JJ by this time last year. . Or even better yet look at Irvin. He didn;t play a complete season until his 4th year. Then he went on to to play 5 straight seasons.

Not many blue chippers left when drafting at 32 is there. :D

Sand and tundra.

I do believe Mr. No Sense of Humor actually tried to join in.

Now if he'd just try not to bounce his hands off his chest. Might be too much to hope for.
