I really don't know much about them and I am sure its a great site but there seems to be conflicting reports. As a matter of fact I haven't seen in other sites that say he rarely faces double teams. I tend to judge the players on my own accord as well as check out some of the major sites. However what one site says I don't consider them gospel.

BJ Raji is by far the more superior DT. Raji can clog thos running lanes,push the pocket back and get behind the pocket constantly at 330 lbs.

Ron Brace can certainly holdhis gaps and clog those running lanes but he isn't pushing that pocket backlike Raji and he certainly isn't getting behind it. You will never get any pressure up the middle with Brace there, but you won't get run up the middle either.

With Raji you're good either or. If Raji came close to the bottomof the first, which he won't get past Denver at 18 if he was even around, I would trade up in a heartbeat. There are reports that Raji is innocent of the pot allegations and even if they were true alot of these players do smoke and know how to beat the detection.

Ratliff either needs to add 20-30 pounds or we will never have a top defense. he's a great pass rusher but a mediocre run defender. we need a mammoth NT and we need to move Rat to DE. but Wade Philips is one of the most overrated defensive minds in the game so that probably won't happen.

I suspect Wade knows more about defense than any dozen people on this board combined.

But yes, we could use a monster in the middle if we can get one good enough and at the right price.

6'3, 326 pounds | Boston College | Defensive tackle

Strengths: Brace possesses the size of a two-gap plugger, but the quickness to of a one-gap tackle. He uses that size and quickness to stuff the run nicely. He has a powerful base and is hard to move around. Because of that, running backs have to adjust where they're going or run right into Brace. Strong against the double team. During the 2008 season, Brace would regularly take up two blockers so teammate B.J. Raji could burst into the backfield. Uses his power to collapse the interior of the pocket. Good agility, which allows him to slide down the line really well.

Does Wade prefer a run clogger or a penetrator at NT? (Assuming he can't get a guy who can do both)

Now, we know he's had both types of NTs to work with.

I'm getting the distinct feeling he prefers a decent sized NT who can penetrate. As a result, our interest in D Scott, for example.

I think we have interest in Brace as well. I would think Wade prefers the run clogger. He inherited Rat but they went and got Jammal. Besides a run clogger elevates our defense.

You may be right.

If it were me, I'd like to have 1 run clogger at NT and one player like Ratliff and change them up depending on the situation.

Ya Wade had no part in selecting Ratliff and he's only come on recently the past few years..with tank gone, I'm sure he wants a Jamal Williams..and Brace is you guy! He can play NT to spell Rat and also play NT on passing downs while scooting Rat on over to DE on obvious passing plays.

I'm almost positive he admitted in a walk-off with the reporters, or maybe Mickey said he told him personally, that he preferred the huge anchor type in the middle. It's just that he can make smaller guys work.

But he did find Pat Williams at A&M and had the original freaky strong fireplug 34 NT, Curly Culp, with his dad at Houston.

BTW, Jamal Williams was actually in San Diego for years before Wade got there, but he was just a meh player.

I don't remember hearing about that, and my memory has served me pretty well, but I remember he brought up the NT he had in Buffalo who wasn't a 330lb hog
