Awesome except they will probably beat the Cards, Skins, and maybe the Eagles and pick a little later

6 DALLAS COWBOYS: PATRICK PETERSON, CB / S, L.S.U.

Scouting Report
This would probably be the Cowboys dream scenario because the safety position has been a major problem area for many years now. L.S.U.’s Patrick Peterson actually plays cornerback in college but there are many scouts who feel his best fit at the next level will come inside at safety. Peterson is quite the physical specimen, checking in at 6-1 and 222 pounds with 4.4 speed and elite athleticism. Not only is Peterson an impact playmaker in coverage but he is also extremely physical in run support and a standout return man to boot. Regardless of whether Peterson lined up at corner or safety he would represent a major upgrade to the Cowboys leaky secondary. Dallas might also consider a defensive end such Marcell Dareus of Alabama, who plays in a similar scheme with the Crimson Tide, since Marcus Spears, Jason Hatcher and Stephen Bowen are all due to become free agents after this season. The Cowboys could use an infushion of youth along the offensive line too but there doesn’t appear to be a blocker worthy of being selected this early, at least not at this point

Hoss has been slobbering all over this guy, so it would be good to see what he does in the offseason. His measureables are clearly off the charts- but then Pete Hunter was just about physically identical to this guy.

With the way things look now, I'd trade our pick to Houston if Peterson was available, if they gave us a 2nd rounder.

I wouldn't - I want to flight player at CB/S - who will be able to come right in an start - Petersen - Prince - Harris

I would trade down but not out of the first

38 Dallas Cowboys: Rahim Moore, FS, UCLA

Pick change; previously Deunta Williams, FS

69 Dallas Cowboys: Marcus Cannon, G, TCU

82 John Moffitt, G/C, Wisconsin
87 Benjamin Ijalana, OT/G, Villanova
91 Danny Watkins, OT, Baylor

lol, you think the COWBOYS are going to bench/cut either Newman or Jenkins? We could draft Darrell Revis II come the draft and he'd be the 3rd CB here until his 3rd year.

How long do you think think Newman is going to be playing?

He turns 33 at the start of next season and has be injury addled the past few seasons.

I don't see another three or four more seasons with him. I don't know if he even makes it past next season.

Scandrick IMO is not the longterm answer as a starter. To me, it's an ideal situation to draft a CB high, let him work himself into the nickel, develop and eventually take over.

With Peterson, I think you have a unique player who could make the transition to FS quite successfully.

That's not my point.

I'm saying that this team isn't going to bench or cut Newman next year, and probably not even the year after that. Which would mean if we take Peterson, he doesn't get a legit shot at starting till his third year.

Maybe Garrett manages to change the way the Cowboys handle veterans, but how often does a veteran on this team lost his starting job to a younger player?

Wait, you say your point isn't how much longer plays, but you think he starts next season and perhaps the next too. And because of that, you think drafting a guy like Peterson or another CB would be a waste. So I think there is a point regarding how long Newman will be playing.

Beyond that, what does it really matter if Peterson doesn't "start" as a rookie?

Scandrick isn't a starter and yet he sees a ton of playing time working in the nickel and dime packages. If a guy like Peterson assumes that role his first year, he will have been well worth it.

Or, in three receiver sets, you could move Newman to the slot (a role he excelled in) and have Peterson functioning as your No.2.

Point is, if we draft a Top 10 corner he won't be sitting wasting away on the bench.

I guess what I don't get is this sense that a rookie CB absolutely has to start as a No.1 or 2 corner.

I think what you're missing is the sarcasm.

Spencer over Ellis.

Free over Adams.

Ball over Hamlin.

Bryant over Crayton.

I think I must have. BTW, I would love to have Nick Fairley in the 1st round too.

1. Got the starting job in his third year - after Ellis' play deteriorated to the point that he was untradeable and thus cut.

2. Got the starting job in his fourth year - after Adams' play deteroirated to the point that he was untradeable and thus cut.

3. Got the starting job in his fourth year - after Hamlin's play deterirorated to the point that he was untradeable and thus cut.

4. Yay!

3 Years from now, perhaps Newman will be so bad that it will be somewhat embarrassing and then Peterson can get that starting job. Newman will promptly be cut, because he will be untradeable. :D

And I'd love to have Peterson in the first round, just don't know if he'll be available. I'll even take Prince. :)

that was Wades way - I don' t think and don't know what JG's method is concerning players - but me he starts if he is better

Not advocating Peterson as the pick quite yet, but picking him does not mean Newman or Jenkins are being replaced (at least not immediately).

Peterson ousting Ball or Sensabaugh at either safety spot is not inconceivable.

Why would you want to take a CB in round 1 when he probably won't start for 3 years? We need to draft someone who can come in and start for us right away (i.e. DL or OL). In 2-3 years, when TN is no longer in our plans, then we can use a high pick on a CB.

Peterson is actually projected to both FS/CB in the pros. Safety is a position of need and Peterson has the ability to start and impact that position immediately.

Further there is no OL with the same/better grade as Peterson. If Peterson is available when Cowboys pick, Cowboys would be foolish not to consider him.

I've seen a whole lot of Patrick Peterson down here in SEC country. It's more than just measurables, the guy is the 3rd best player in this draft (behind Luck and AJ Green). If we can get him at 6, it will be a steal.

Patrick Peterson, if drafted by Dallas, would immediately become the #1 corner on the team.

If both are available when we choose, I would rather see us draft Fairley over Peterson.

Oh god, not me. Fairley is as dirty as they come. He bodyslams players whenever he can and takes cheap shots at QBs. Dude makes Harrison look like a saint. He doesn't know how NOT to spear.
