Alright Guys, and Gals, which do you what would you rather see us do in the first round? Continue building a dominate defense or try to add some offensive firepower/protection? I didnt include trade down as this is just to see where everyone sits on which side of the ball we should draft first.

I would like to see us trade down some, but I am in the camp that unless a can't miss Offensive player drops to our spot I would like to see us finish building the dominate defense that BP/JJ started to really put together last year.

I think the Draft will have a strong defense tendency.

When i look at last years draft and FA aquisitions the offense was upgraded only through FA the defence mainly through the draft. With a lot of rookies playing D the defence panned out nicely.

So IMO BP has a concept behind this. IMO BP believes (and i would like to mention this is also my humble opinion ;)) it's easier for a rookie (not at all positions, eg CB) to adapt and perform on defence then on offense. I think he will go the same way this year.

Find RT, Center, Kicker maybe FB in FA and go with the Draft when it comes to LBs. Mayvbe at FS he will make an exception.

But that's just a feeling i have. i maybe wrong.

I'm just not thrilled about the 18th overall pick, especially in this year's draft. If we're going to do anything I think I'd prefer we trade out grabbing another #1 for next year unless some player falls to us at 18. I'd just rather not take a risk on a questionable player.

Fill our defensive needs in the next 3 rounds and concentrate all of the Free Agency period on offense. It's doable, and then next year we head into the draft with two #1's again. There we could package both those picks and move up getting that one player that would take us over the hump by that point in time. As of now we just have to many needs to throw it away on one mid-firstround "maybe" player.

I think most people see a defensive player doing that in this year's draft so that's one of the reasons why it's leading, not because people think the offense is in much better shape than the defense.

Well said.

I think finding a defense player that can start at #18 is easier than finding an offensive player.

You could be right then again should one of the top OT slip a bit to 18 I would not be shocked to see Dallas go after that player. I'm not opposed to LB or FS on defense if the right guy is there but I'm not against OL either. I think you keep all options on the table.

The quality of OT slips considerably after Ferguson.

In your opinion some scouts say other wise. Sorry I can't sit here and say LB is the only position we can address at 18.

Finish off the defense as a forceful unit. This is our best chance to make the next level of teams in the hunt.

We need 2 LBs if Burnett can't claim a starting spot. Dat is gone, Singleton may be a cut, Fujita and Fowler are more suited to backup roles. Shanle would need a miracle.

SOLB and ILB next to Bradie James are critical. In a 3-4 scheme the LBs are the most important unit. We're going to draft at least 2 LBs. 1 on Day 1 and another on day 2.

I prefer not to wait until round 2 or 3 to do it given the importance. I still think Bobby Carpenter at SOLB is our best move. A trade down to add a 4th rounder and still take him would thrill me.

We still need a FS. I'm thinking we address this position in Free agency though.

If we lose Glover (likely) or Ellis (less likely now?) we will need line help as well due to youth and ineffectiveness. I feel the DL will not be addressed unless a top NT is avialable at a spot we like.

Candidates would be Haloti Ngata (a dream come true), Rod Wright, Orien Harris, & Gabe Watson in no particular order. I'd love to get Wright in the 2nd because I'm becoming a believer in University of Texas DTs. See Shaun Rogers and Casey Hampton for reasons why.

3rd round, give me a WR for the future. Todd Watkins is one I've been watching. If he and Crayton can develop together along with a focus on WR in the near future or in FA if we look at a David Givens or Reggie Wayne it would help for the long haul. Watkins speed could vault him up on Day 1. Right now, I'm keeping him in the 3rd round.

If we address OL on day I hope it is OG more than OT simply due to the age of our starters and the uncertainty behind them. Latui of USC in the 2nd wouldn't hurt my feelings at all.

I believe that the defense is more critical to complete than the offense at this point. Only kicker might be as crucial to the long term success of the team.

JMO.

Would would you define as a top tackle? Winston Justice, Marcus McNeil, or Jon Scott? I think two of these tackles will be there when we pick. I am personally hoping for Winston Justice in round 1 and our lb in round two. Kai Parham will be there in the 2nd and he has great size and speed.

Other than Ferguson yes those would be defined at least by most scouting publication as the top OT in the draft and guys who more than likely go in round 1.

I guess I meant to say, what tackles do you think are worth the 18th pick?

I agree with all of what you said. I love the Watkins pick, especially if his combine numbers are great. That would give you a tall fast receiver, and you won't be really gambling on him in the third.

If I was going to pick an OL in round 1 it better be a tackle. Myself I think it is one of the most critical positions on the line because you’re forced to go up against DE and LB who can come at you with both quickness and strength.

Lets try this again.:) What tackle would you pick at 18 if you were the GM? I would want Winston Justice. Who would you want?

Tough call, I like both Justice and McNeil.

not a very sophisticated poll...none of us actually mean what we voted anyway....we'll all be happy to see some problems addressed in FA and some by the draft....who cares which are which.

I agree, I'm not opposed to picking up any player who can help us be it at LB, OL, FS or some other area of need my only issue is to not rule out an OL should one of the top OT is still there for the taking.

Justice... His bio suggest he can handle speed rushers, and that's what we need most.
