Draft Grade thus far?

Smith: He seems like a good pick but the brief clips I saw of him looked very bad. When they showed the Paea highlights one of them was against USC and Smith looked lost on the play. I would feel better if our history of evaluating offensive lineman was better.

Carter: If the Knee is ok good pick. The sporting news called him the biggest risk at OLB. "Carter was surefire first round pick before undergoing ACL surgery. It's impossible to know whether he can get back to his pre injury form, but some teams will likely gamble on him in the late first or early second round." At least we didn't trade up to the bottom of the first round to get him. I heard Casserly saying we were trying to trade up, maybe it was for him since he was the one we took in round 2.

Murray: I would like to see what he can do. Sounds like he may have injury issues.

according to jerry, murray was ranked a full round above the next guy on our board..again, could just be jerry selling the pick..but thats what he said

I give it a C. Solid. A great deal of risk that has the golden upside. Par for the course with the style this organization is apparently locked into in terms of drafting football players.

But if I factor in that people like Barry Switzer and Larry Lacewell had input to Jerry Jones about our second and third round choices, I change the grade to F(AIL).

Tyron Smith - Addresses a need with Best Potential OT of the draft, and locks down the position for over a decade hopefully.

Bruce Carter - How is he in coverage? Because Nickel LB is likely what they have in mind for him. If he shores that up, that's a major get.

DeMarco Murray - This is the pick that brings down the grade for me. Mainly because I was hoping on Taiwan Jones. But also because I don't know how his talent translates to the NFL. From the scouting reports I've read, he run's straight up, is neither shifty or able to run people over, and is injury proned.

I'll give it a solid B thus far because I have zero issue with any of the picks. In fact, I'll be honest, I really love the DeMarco pick in round 3 because this convinces me we'll let Barber go and now I'm leaning more toward the Cowboys actually attempting to cash in on Nmandi.

If that happens, along with what we've drafted thus far, I'll be pretty pleased to that point with our offseason moves.

I'm not a Sooner fan, I'm a Husker guy, but I've watched DeMarco play many times over the last few years and the guy can be a game changer.

My thoughts so far:

First round: They must feel Tyron Smith has potential to be far and away greater than any of the other linemen picked in the first round. Otherwise they surely would of traded down. I can't fault them if this was their evaluation here. You only have top 10 picks every so often. I am worried about his knee and him adding on weight while recovering from an injury. I hope it doesn't become a chronic issue.

Second round: Inside linebacker is a defiant need. That said, I'm weary of a player who is described as non-physical (and coincidentally has the initials BC and wears 54). Those are just superstitious concerns, but the physical conditions of his knee is a real worry.

Third Round: Murray is defiantly an athletic specimen. My problem is his production at the college level. If you actually watched Oklahoma play over the last two years, you would see a back that didn't play up to that athletic potential. I don't like the pick at all but I hope I am wrong. I prefer players who have shown real potential to those who run fast at a pro-day but don't match that performance on the field.

I would grade the draft a C so far just because of my expectations to improve more critical needs and a general disdain for Murray after watching a lot of Oklahoma football over the last few years.
