Draft musings

I’ll be so pissed if Gross-Matos is our pick at 17.
why?

love his size...6'5...264.
18.5 career sacks in 3yrs.
111 total tackles...36.5 for loss.

played well in the games i saw...always seemed to get into the backfield..
always in the QBs face.
plus I love his story.

but i liked Taco at the time so dont go by me.

I think the idea is he's a Danielle Hunter. Better professional than college player. Hunter was a 3rd rounder though...

Absolutely. Hunter is the exception to the rule thought and not the norm...and like you mentioned not picked in the top 20.

There are a few things that are going through my mind watching the combine

1. If we get a deal done for Dak and franchise tag Cooper we might have a tough decision should Lamb or Jeudy be there at 17.

2. And why are we re-signing Cobb? I feel like we should be positioning ourselves to allow us to take a WR. I'd be okay if we franchise-tagged Cooper and then picked up Lamb as a 3rd WR or if one of the many quality guys drops in the 2nd or 3rd but if we've got Cobb I think that shuts the door on those draft options.

3. If there's a top-four OT on the board at 17 tI think that's a really good scenario for us......I'm confident we'd find a trade partner. If I'm the Seahawks with Wilson at QB protected by Ifidi, I'd bite your hand off for a fair trade up to 17 knowing I've got two 2nd round picks and I can package one of them and looking at the trade value chart 17 is probably the sweet spot for them.

4. DT in the first is a pipe dream. I don't see any scenario where Brown or Kinlaw are there and the DE's IMO are rubbish. We're looking at another Taco Charlton or Tristan Hill if we take either a DT or DE at 17..

5. Safety is a great option in the mid 20's, I'm less enamoured with Delpit or McKinney at 17. The same goes for CB's....I don't really have a standout between Henderson, Diggs, Fulton, Gladney, Arnette or Danzler. They all have 1st/2nd round grade in my eyes and are in a tight bunch with McKinney, Delpit and half a dozen WR's. They are probably all 23-38 on my draft board and almost interchangeable. The combine could easily put any one of them at the top.
If Jeudy or Lamb is there you sprint to the podium. Even if you sign Cooper long term

All the DB's that will be available will be very bad value at 17. DB isnt a bad option if the board is wiped and a trade down is available

I’ve got him as a fringe first rounder as of now. If he tests we’ll and shows he’s a great athlete might bump him up a bit.

Cobb really did come on for us in the back half of the season, but his projected dollars are way too high for a 3rd WR, particularly with how much we spend everywhere else on offense.

If Dak wants to be a bazillion dollar man, he's got to learn to make due with less on offense.

Ha ha. At first I thought you were talking about Cooper Rush.

Love Cobb...but with the strength of the draft at WR I'll take that money and use it for Dak/Cooper.

We can get a solid #3 in rounds 3-5.

Me too.

I hope Pollard takes the slot in our base as a RB/WR. I think that was the plan when we drafted him. He just turned out to be a better RB than we expected, *and* we needed him there with Zeke holding out.

Isiah Simmons 4.39, 39" vert, 11'0" broad. He could legitimately walk out to the sideline and cover WRs.

I absolutely love Pollard but I think slot WR is a stretch for him.

If Kinlaw is gone at 17 and we can’t trade back who do you want us to take?

Let's assume my worst-case scenario. The draft goes:
1. Burrow (QB)
2. Tua (QB)
3. Young (DE)
4. Simmons (LB)
5. Wirfs (OT)
6. Herbert (QB)
7. Okudah (CB)
8. Brown (DT)
9. Wills (OT)
10. Love (QB)
11. Kinlaw (DT)
12. Becton (OT)
13. Lamb (WR)
14. Juedy (WR)
15. Thomas (OT)
16. Ruggs (WR)

Best players available (Very little separates them IMO):
Henderson (CB), Chaisson (DE), Higgins (WR), Delpit (FS), McKinney (SS), Murray (LB)

My best guess at the moment is that we won't re-sign B.Jones or Quinn but will re-sign Heath and Cobb. That puts Chaisson and Henderson as most likely. Murray is a wild card if LVE is screwed but I think it's unlikely. We will have a much clearer opinion after free agency on our needs.

I think I go Chaisson in this scenario.
