In Mr Jones own Words:

Asked about WR in the draft:

What about wide receiver?

"I think that’s one of the strengths of our team is wide receiver," Jones said. "That's certainly not paramount. I couldn’t answer your question that way. It's one of the strengths of our team."

T.O. stays for 2007 unless Dallas finds a wideout in free agency or it believes it drafts one in the first round.

Should Dallas draft a free safety in the draft next month?

Jones didn't say no, but he voiced some confidence in Patrick Watkins, that's Todd Archer's cousin, who was the primary starter last year.

Keith Davis, a run stopper, who plays free safety, will also get a look in training camp.
Watkins seemed to be more of a ball-hawk than Davis. But Davis is a better tackler.

"I like what we can do from within,"
Jones said of the free safety spot.

So if can say no to a WR or Safety ……..What would be your selection w/the 22 pick in the draft?

I know it’s early but I think Old JJ could be blowing a little pre-pre draft smoke.

(Speculation only that we will not draft a safety)

The original blog post didn't indicate that the WR question was about the draft -- in fact it looked as if it was a follow up to a question about a trade or free agency. Here's the exact wording:

Will the Cowboys make a trade this offseason? Jones said the team will keep its options open. The team is also not done in free agency.

"I wouldn't speculate that we're done," Jones said.

What about wide receiver?

Dallas picked up the $5 million roster bonus of Terry Glenn earlier this month. And what about Terrell Owens and his $3 million roster bonus due in June?

"I think that’s one of the strengths of our team is wide receiver," Jones said. "That's certainly not paramount. I couldn’t answer your question that way. It's one of the strengths of our team."

Here's my best guess at the moment.

Most likely:
OLB (Moss or Spencer)
WR (Bowe, Rice, Meachem, Jarrett, or Ginn).

Somehwhat Likely:
CB (Revis, Hall, Houston).
OL (Blaylock)
FS (Nelson)

I've yet to decide whether I'll be trolling non-stop for Moss or Spencer.

He didn't say no corner. If we draft a corner, what "we can do from within" is potentially move Anthony Henry if the Watkins safety project fails.

Meacham/Bowe or trade down/out of one.

I have a hard time using a 1 on someone who got suspended for weed in October.

Certainly seem that way.....

I'm simply curious as to what player and or position our members would go with if eliminate a S and WR as a choice.

No S or WR I select Jarvis Moss

My program has picked Moss at times. If you restrict CB as well, then a player I sometimes pick up is Patrick Willis, ILB from Old Miss. My most recent draft went this way (showing only Dallas picks..)

22. Dallas Cowboys select Lawrence Timmons, LB.
53. Dallas Cowboys select Tim Crowder, DE.
87. Dallas Cowboys select Doug Free, OT.

David.

It would be a shame to eliminate WR with such talent available. FS doesn't excite me as much in round #1 for several reasons, Watkins potential to develope one and the cost of a round 1 FS another. I also have a hard time beleiving we will go OL in the 1st. I quess if you make me eliminate WR and S i'd have to go LB considering you have to continually bring guys in when you play the 3-4. If Carp is seen as an outside guy, smeone like Timmons is as talented as anyone rated in the #22 range and could upgrade the MLB possition now and later. If Carp stays inside then ya gotta look at Moss. Not sure Spencer will carry a #22 grade on draft day. A CB with the talent and versatility of Revis would be good as well.

I'm not eliminating WR but just to be safe, I'll say OLB, and possibly RB if Jones decides to be cute and move up with a trade of JJ.

The best available player left on their board.

Why is that such a hard concept to grasp?
