CB without a 2nd thought.

With the depth in the draft at the WR position.....I would not rule out us taking one if a good one happens to fall to us.

bd......a CB is a good possibility.

In Mr Jones own Words:

Asked about WR in the draft:

What about wide receiver?

"I think that’s one of the strengths of our team is wide receiver," Jones said. "That's certainly not paramount. I couldn’t answer your question that way. It's one of the strengths of our team."

T.O. stays for 2007 unless Dallas finds a wideout in free agency or it believes it drafts one in the first round.

Should Dallas draft a free safety in the draft next month?

Jones didn't say no, but he voiced some confidence in Patrick Watkins, that's Todd Archer's cousin, who was the primary starter last year.

Keith Davis, a run stopper, who plays free safety, will also get a look in training camp.
Watkins seemed to be more of a ball-hawk than Davis. But Davis is a better tackler.

"I like what we can do from within,"
Jones said of the free safety spot.

So if can say no to a WR or Safety ……..What would be your selection w/the 22 pick in the draft?

I know it’s early but I think Old JJ could be blowing a little pre-pre draft smoke.

(Speculation only that we will not draft a safety)

No CBZ... Jerry is usually good to his word on stuff like this. When you're in the top 10 of the draft you deceive... but not at number #22.

There will not be a WR or a FS drafted #1.

CB or OLB in first round

Thats what i think as well. With the other being addressed in the second. It is a great chance to get a good one of either in the first two rounds.

CB or OLB.

I can't see us taking an OL, QB, RB, TE, or DT/NT at 22 right now (unless someone special falls to us). And I'm playing along and assuming no WR or Safety at 22.

Between CB and OLB, depends who's on the Board.

I will be shocked if we dont go CB. There will be several good corners available at #22.........my favorite would be Ross from Texas, but I might be biased here.

Unless the draft unfolds in a funny way in front of us, I feel almost certain we will go CB in round 1...that's the best value in my opinion....anything other than a CB in round 1 will shock me just as much as when we passed on Stephen Jackson when we had him fall to us.

Anyone who thinks we take another LB in round 1 is on crack.

I agree with that.

If we lose Fowler and assuming Singleton is gone we don't have a lot of linebackers but we have some talent there. We have too many high draft picks and salary dollars to be dumping James, Akin, Carp or Ware... and that's not even figuring Ellis who is starting to convince me that he'll be back.

I'm thinking we're trading down or even out of the first round altogether.

You could say the same about our secondary. In the end, it's a poor argument for predicting positions drafted. We are just as likely to draft an OLB as a CB. It's all guesswork right now and no credible person can say with a straight face that "we will not draft a [insert position] in the first round" -- with the exception of QB.

how sick would that be to move carp inside, have ware and jarvis moss with ellis spelling
Dont you remember how Carp couldnt even get on the field playing inside? He is much more effective as an outside LB. Hell, Parcells insistence on moving him inside most likely stunted his growth as a player, and put him 3/4ths of a season behind.

No one really exploited the deficiencies of Bradie James until Carpenter had moved back outside. Until that happened, James was a considered an above average player who had just signed a modest contract extension. If you put Carpenter and James on equal footing this training camp, Carp will come out the clear winner. Carp at ILB >>> Carp at OLB

I think Jerry was asked about TO's situation, not about WR in the draft

Yes, it did happen during that time period just like you said but the truth has started coming out that James was used to much by Parcells last year and was fatigued towards the end of the season.

That makes far more "sense" than the "Carp going outside" stuff.

Used too much? If the guy gets worn down that bad in the last half of the season he deserves to see the bench. It wasn't that he was worn down -- it was that he's slow and not too particularly bright.

noone exploited Bradie James until they exploited him one too many times in a game, it's the NFL, sooner or later a team is going to find your weakness, all they have to do is see Bradie playing too far off in coverage, or in the wrong position, during a game, leaving an open target, and bam, a few completions, and it's out there, Bradie can't cover well in space because he doesn't read plays well and is too slow to make up ground for his mistake, bam, bam, bam

Carp moving outside had nothing to do w/ it

I don't remember him being noted for being above-average in coverage, just that he 'got' the 3-4 ILB role and was stout at the point of attack

how about Carp at ILB=Carp at OLB? and if there's a better ILB to be had, he'll stay outside, and if there's a better OLB, he'll move to ILB

That's not being said by some folks that were closer to the situation than either you or I.
