Used too much? If the guy gets worn down that bad in the last half of the season he deserves to see the bench. It wasn't that he was worn down -- it was that he's slow and not too particularly bright.

that is a terrible combination

noone exploited Bradie James until they exploited him one too many times in a game, it's the NFL, sooner or later a team is going to exploit your weakness, all they have to do is see Bradie playing too far off in coverage, or in the wrong position, during a game, leaving an open target, and bam, a few completions, and it's out there, Bradie can't cover well in space, bam, bam, bam

Carp moving outside had nothing to do w/ it

I don't remember him being noted for being above-average in coverage, just that he 'got' the 3-4 ILB role and was stout at the point of attack
You missed the point. The poster claimed that Carpenter was a waste at ILB because he couldn't get on the field. My point was that Bradie James was very well thought of and his deficiencies were not fully exploited until Carpenter was moved outside. If Carpenter wasn't moved outside, he might have eventually took over for James inside. People would have been screaming for at least when teams started exploiting James. Whether Parcells would have pulled the trigger is anyone's guess.

how about Carp at ILB=Carp at OLB? and if there's a better ILB to be had, he'll stay outside, and if there's a better OLB, he'll move to ILB
It's whatever. I just think he'll be a Pro Bowl talent inside, but outside he'll be average or a little better.

akin was getting battered aswell. i just dont think teams showed any kind of respect to carpenter. when ellis was there akin and bradie didnt get exploited enough because of the skill level on the field. when ellis got injured that level went down bigtime

Carp was moved outside because Ellis was injured and Al isn't a very good OLB in a 3-4, that makes this whole argument kind of moot

Sure it's moot, but my point was that he wasn't wasted inside. He would have eventually won the starting job, just like he eventually won the starting job from Singleton after Ellis went down. If Ellis had stayed healthy, Carpenter would have had a much better chance at winning the starting job inside rather than out. So, my point is he wasn't being wasted inside. In fact, that was the best position for him at the time.

No, Akin wasn't getting battered. What does Ellis have to do with teams figuring out that James is slower than philo beddoe taking an IQ exam?
