His base salary is 12.75M and that would go with him to the new team if traded. I don't think there is a team that would pay him 12.75M if he was a free agent. I definitely don't think there is a team that would give up draft picks for the right to pay him 12.75M.

Again teams can renegotiate contracts in trades.

"Negotiate" in this scenario would mean pay cut. He has no incentive to take a pay cut. The Vikings either pay him or he becomes a free agent and can negotiate with 31 teams instead of 1 team.

I actually wouldn't be shocked if Preston Smith is there in the late 2nd.

Yes to Nelson later

I've been trying to make that same point. There is no incentive for APeterson to negotiate a pay cut with a team looking to make a trade unless it was a team he absolutely he wanted to play for. Even if did want to go there, he would be negotiating against himself with no other options.

A trade would be a very long shot IMO, but that doesn't mean MINN will do him any favors and release early. They still want to wait and see how the appeal goes and may try to judge the fans reaction to bringing him back.

It is possible. He had a few big runs in the Florida game but watch the 4th quarter and tell me the the last time you saw Adrian Peterson out of gas with 12 minutes left in the game.

Didn't Gurley just come back from an injury when he played Florida? I don't think he had his endurance up.

Yes, because no player under contract ever gets traded and renegotiates their contract instead of waiting for the off chance that they'll be cut... only because this always happens...

I would say that it's rare for a player to take a pay cut for the purpose of being traded.

Do you have some examples (more than 1) ?

AP has no reason to take a pay cut.
He 1. doesn't want to reward Minny in any way.
2. wants to be a total free agent for the first time in his career.
3. Probably has a real good idea what other teams would offer him and where he'll play in 2015 already.
