Drafting Bosa would open up board

It all depends how you have Ramsey evaluated. I think he plays either CB or S at a high level for you. He's a physical player and by all reports a good kid and plays another position of significant need. And he's got upside and no off-field concerns.

But at #4, we're just talking flavor because we're primarily looking at the best players in any position group up this high. I'd be happy with any of the options that are going to be available, honestly.

Bosa is the highest rated DE on almost all scout's boards. I don't care how he gets to the QB or RB....just get there. I am tired of DE running round the T and watch the QB or RB step through gaping hole that was vacated.

Good point. Would be nice to see a DE push a T back into the QB's face once in a while. Plus, Bosa is excellent at End/Tackle stunts. He gets small and gets right past the guard. With Crawford looping around. That could be nice.

I don't like Bosa. I think his intangibles are terrible and consequently has a high bust factor.

But I am not going to lie, drafting him really does make a lot of sense. We need that kind of player desperately, he's the highest rated at that position, and he will likely be available.

I prefer going Qb above all else though.

I think Bosa a terrific strong-side DE prospect.

On the weakside you could have Lawrence/Gregory/the kid they just signed from Oakland.

The team needs a SS DE and he would fit the bill quite nicely.

Lawrence has started to blossom on the SS and says he prefers that side to the right. No need to mess with a good thing if we can help it.

But yes, Bosa is a player who you won't be terribly excited about but who should have a long and productive if not superlative career.

I get the angst. I just, like others, have different preferences.

I also get the sense that he is this team's fallback as well.

I like how binary logic is applied to BPA and need. As if you could not use both ideas at the same time and they are mutually exclusive or that scouting is a precise and accurate science.

I agree that taking Bosa at 4 really opens up the board for us. Hoping a Dodd or Ogbah falls to 2 could really backfire on us. My problem is I just don't know if Bosa is an elite prospect. I wish I felt more strongly about him. If he ends up being the pick I hope he is special. I feel much more strongly about Ramsey and Jack if his knee checks out.

Because we failed to address the need for DE (and CB) in free agency and pass rush was our most glaring weakness. While I agree with you that we should take a long term approach in draft (and I would take a QB), the FO does not seem to agree and wants to maximize Romo's 3-4 year "window." If that's the case, you take Bosa because he fills a glaring need and is close to, if not, the BPA. I don't think there is any "better DE" that will fall into our laps later. Not the strength of this draft. And certainly not one that will make an impact this year...

I disagree, the front office has no plan. If they were going all in to get Romo a ring, they would have done what they could to upgrade the defense, like Denver did for Manning. The cowboys didn't do that, they basically signed a few guys that would probably be gathering shopping carts at Lowe's, because they were cheap. You need talent to win. As for drafting Bosa, the 4 cornerstones of building a team through the draft, is franchise QB, LT, Rush DE, and CB. WE have our LT, Bosa is not a pass rushing DE, Ramsey, even if available, is not and NFL CB he is a safety and you don't take safeties at 4. So that leaves you with QB. It's really very easy, you don't draft for need, and Bosa, as highly rated as he is, is not a pass rushing DE, neither is Buckner. The pass rushers are further down the first round and into the second. To be honest, I would not draft an OSU player in the first round. They are a product of their overwhelming better talent then their opponents. You don't see many OSU stars in the NFL. Another thing, you don't waste the 4th pick in the draft because your DE is out for 4 games with a suspension.

The difference is performance between Bosa and signing Jason Jones as a FA won't be a lot next year, and is light years away from the value of the fourth pick of the draft.

And the value of trading down for multiple picks is way, way more than Bosa IMO.

you also have to remember that Gregory was much higher rated than Bosa or Buckner were at this time last year. He is only suspended for 4 games. I don't see the need to use the 4th pick of the draft because Gregory is gone for 4 games. That's why they got the guy from Oakland.

This is one of the best arguments I have seen for taking Bosa. Bosa/Crawford stunts could really be a force especially now that opposing O-lines have to factor in Thronton as well freeing up Crawford. Posts like this make me reassess Bosa as an option. I still want Ramsey. I still view Jack as 2nd best option if his knee checks out. But if we end up with Bosa, it might not be as underwhelming as I think.

Very true. Bosa definitely represents the best of both worlds (need & bpa). Just because he makes a ton of sense to draft, doesn't mean we are settling for a need. He would literally fill a tremendous hole on the team and represent the best possible value at that pick.

It's too bad he seems like such a dbag. It would really be a slam dunk decision otherwise

I do disagree with you about Ramsey over Bosa. Just my own opinion of course. I rather have Bosa or Jack over Ramsey. I think QB would be good too but I keep flipping back and forth about it. To me any top player playing closer to the line on D can make more of an impact. So Bosa I hope can be a Allen or Strahan type for us. Jack even though I love I worry that our DC don't know how to use him effectively. Jack's strength is that he has a LB body and can play like a CB/S. So you need to move him all over like Troy P in Pitt. I think Jack can be better than Troy but need someone who can put him in that position.

Ramsey I worry about the most among the three we are discussing. He plays furthest from the LOS. He's just not the best pure CB in this draft and if that's our intention then that's a big mistake. He maybe the best S but again my argument about closer to LOS impact. Furthermore, I don't think we need to devote two 1st rounders to the S position. I believe we can find a S in the 2nd or 3rd that can complement Jones.

Best CB is Hargreaves, best S is Joseph, yet somehow the best DB is Ramsey.

If this is true then why does every team picking in the top 6 have Ramsey on their short list but none have Hargreaves or Joseph?

The question is which is more valuable? Ramsey or Hargreaves AND Joseph. I believe the draft will show that the experts have concluded that Ramsey is worth more points than Hargreaves and Joseph combined. Ramsey may go no 1. This is coming from someone that likes both Hargreaves and Joseph but Ramsey is the best player in the draft. IMO

Why do people assume we *have* to fill all needs on the team in one offseason. I'd love to win the SB this year, but it's much better to take a long term approach and draft the best talent. Not reaching for a DE and having a hole there, but having superior talent else where could actually be better long term, because a better DE could fall in our laps later.

Well one he didn't produce sack numbers and two he was smoking weed

Bosa fixes a problem with the highest rated at that big need position.
It's likely Bosa is our selection.
I'd like to see a trade down but I'll be OK with Bosa.

I don't get this either.
What happened to keeping an eye on the backfield as your trying to turn the corner. Then spin back inside if need be.

We already have Lawrence & Gregory so I don't see Bosa as a true 'need', but I think he's a lot more than just solid. Crawford & Thornton may be enough for the middle push we've been missing, but I'm not completely sold on that. Overall even without any flashy pickups, I think the Dline is going to work out OK. I still would like Hardy back, but then I don't have to put up with him on a daily basis.

Jack is more dynamic. But you need a DC who knows how to take advantage of his unique skills. Ramsey I'm just not sold on. Bosa doesn't look sexy. He just damn good at what he does that's playing DE.
I don't get the rushing DE argument. Would you not call Stahan or White your rush DE? Who care which end gets to the QB.
How do you argue against someone who's produced every year from HS to College? Gregory is a freak around the corner but non factor against the run. I want someone who can do both. Is that too much to ask of a DE?

I don't like college ball so I can only go by what y'all who do share. Jack has somehow become my pet pick. If healthy I think he will be a true impact player for years to come.
