Irvin was clutch . Aikman needed a completion it was going to 88 not Harper .

Drew Pearson was the most clutch receiver of the 1970s. As for a time when Troy Aikman needed a completion I can’t think of a time he needed a completion more than in the closing minutes of the 1992 NFC title game and he went to Alvin Harper.

Talking best RB’s in another thread got me to thinking Drew probably the best wide out in Cowboy history with of course guys like Bob Hayes Tony Hill in the conversation . Glad to see Drew finally get the HOF respect . Of course Michael 88 in the mix , Dez had some good yrs .

In the mix? Michael was #1 hands down.....or as he would say, "period!"

Drew was great, but I’d give the nod to Irvin. It’s really difficult to compare players from different eras. Both were clutch and playmakers, but one was THE Playmaker.

It's nice to see you put Bob Hayes "in the conversation".

The truth is the conversation STARTS with him.

Alvin could make the acrobatic catch then have one fall to the turf right on the bred basket ….

Bread basket ….seen it myself . Then it started happening with Dez towards the end . Hit him right between the numbers then it fell to earth .

Yeah Michael never could wait in line for a quick cut from the barber in training camp though . Wanted to “ cut “ the line …

Now when we say “ greatest “ Cowboy of all time and 22 isn’t the name in the envelope well I think he would be offended by this . . :hammer:

If you ever watched the Bullet play back in the day, you'd be hard pressed to pick any of the others over him. He was constantly held and bumped, yet still blew past DBs.

Bring then in now, 3-receiver set; Irvin and Pearson on the outside, and the world's fastest human in the slot; now that is dynamite.

Drew was the brainiestof them all, as a former QB; Drew made a bigger impact earlier than Michael; Michael was the heart and soul of the team, an ultimate winner and playmaker with that Miami attitude fostered by Jimmy Johnson's tenure in Coral Gables, Florida, that paradise of a campus that had brewed some of the NFL's greatest players from the 80's and early 90's; I swear, the 1986 Miami Hurricanes defensive line rotation had some 5 number one draft picks, a 2 and a 3, better than many NFL teams at that time; ask Troy Aikman, that unit broke his leg at Oklahoma.

Drew was indeed a clutch palymaker, but without the hoopla of Michael.

Aikaman could hit Irvin anytime he wanted to. Who caught two TD's in 1st Buffalo Super Bowl? Michael.

But the greatest single perfomance clutch I have ever seen was the 1975 season playoff against the Vikes. The Boys were down and the fans in Minny were in a frenzy with less that two minutes to go. Roger had no pass protection and the center John Fitzgerald was snapping poorly due to a hand injury. The Boys were at their own 14-15 yard line and it looked hopeless, hopeless. Cowboy fans knew the end was near. The Vikes defense was in a feeding frenzy.

The Boys sent in a rookie center, Kyle Davis.

But wait, the Navy hero and the former QB from Tulsa Drew, never quit. Forget about the Hail Mary. Drew caught two other passes to get the Boys to the 50. The last one on 4th and 15 was one of the greatest catches in Boys' history. Drew jumped into the heavens to pull down the catch on the sideline at the 50. On the first 3 downs, all passes were incomplete. Things did not look good until Drew made that miraculous pre-Hail Mary catch.

Overall, Drew caught passes totalling 82 yards, all forward passes, to pull off the Captain America and Drew magic show. I encourage all of you to watch the 4th quarter of that game. Simply amazing!!

Michael controlled alot of players like another coach on the field. He was fire and thunder and made players around him reach for that little extra. If Emmitt were not so great, Michael would have set all kinds of records. He could have caught 100 passes every year, but with Emmitt, there was no need to.

Bullet Bob played mostly earlier than I can remember. He did become Roger's HR hitter during his 10 game winninig streak culminating in the 1st Super Bowl win.

These are the top three, no doubt at all!
